Goodies: Melonie Daniels

Soooooooo… if you know me, you probably know that I think the world of her.  Here, she’s recording with her church, The Greater Allen AME Cathedral of New York. Even without her vocals, it’s an incredibly powerful song.  But with them…

If you have the 10 minutes to watch this clip in its entirety, you’ll be glad you did.  If you don’t have the time, MAKE THE TIME.  Don’t say I never gave you nuthin’. :-)

Umm. Yes. My only question : did she ever send you that album you ordered?

Man, its not fair how gifted she is and how great her band is. Jeff Davis on drums does it for me man... Hey, great site, I am so glad you are doing this brother.

HA! Yes, Jerod. She is GOING to send me the album... eventually. I'm just letting her take her time. Y'know, she's got a lot going on...

Ej, Glad to hear this song again! It really blessed me the first time that you sent it to Dae and I. I reflected more on the video and came to these conclusions (I framed some of them in Performing Arts and Western Civ. parlance in order to try and justify my BM in light of my current fiscal difficulties :-P) * The video is phenomenologically rich- by which, I mean that there is a feel to the 10 minute "moment" that communicates something more profound than melody, meter & harmony. When I listen, I feel like there is something (dare I say "Someone") greater that is present in the moment- despite the dictates of my theological paradigm :-) * The song, musically speaking, has an anticipatory element that makes you want to burst in praise. It has a forward-leaning nature that leads you toward the day when the Kingdom will indeed be consummated and we will praise him...."Forever and Ever." It's like a taste of what's to come- already-not-yet if you will, and might I add liturgically inviting? * I really like MD's vocals- I could go on about her range and thoughtful melodic personalization of a song, but suffice it to say that she is a beast in the best sense of the term :) * I think that you and Jan Jan should do this at Ascension... represent :P Solas

Whit - LOL. We're not singing it at Ascension. And thank you for your analysis. I believe you would've received an 'A' if not for my striking analysis of Kirk Franklin's "Til We Meet Again" and the hymn medley by Kirk Whalum...

LOL, well your analysis of Kirk would not have been as sharp if you hadn't cheated off of me in music theory :-P
