It’s EASILY one of the best gospel albums I have heard in a while. It’s incredible. It’s inspiring, musically diverse, challenging, thoughtful, exciting, classic… I’ve been itching to post this review for y’all.
The Law of Confession, Part 1 is due in stores THIS COMING TUESDAY, February 3rd, but many have been going ga-ga over it since its live recording back in July of 2008. And soon, everyone will know why. Gospel’s musical genius doesn’t disappoint.
First, the singers… Lisa Jones, Tobbi White-Darks, Tommie White, Dawn Jordan, Anita Wilson, Latrice Pace, Kim McFarland-Anderson, Michael Smith, Floyd Wilkinson, Dewayne Woods, Blanche McAllister-Dykes and Jason Nelson. These people are unreal! And so is the whole album– production, arrangement, instruments… practically FLAWLESS. This album needs to debut at #1 on the charts and stay there for a loooooooong time.
My favorite track is “The Word of the Lord,” a cleverly written song about God’s spoken promises. Other amazing songs are “The Law of Confession,” the theme of the whole project (and, lemme tell you… any time you can work “homologeo” into your lyrics…), and “Let the Word Do the Work,” a New Orleans-styled song featuring a well-done hip-hop flow.
Aaaaaand, I also love “The Blessing Is On You,” a swelling ballad that exemplifies D. Lawrence’s style, and “Citizens of the Kingdom,” a rugged chant about our identity in Christ. Truthfully, I wanna say they’re all favorites cuz the whole album can go (oh, and I love “Happy Being Me,” with Anita Wilson’s rich and smooth alto lead… wait! and “I’ve Got Something”… ok, that’s all I’m sayin’).
Two words: BUY IT. Do not doubt and do not delay. It doesn’t get much better than this.
Shout out to Damon Williams and Bill Carpenter for the support! ![]()

Listened last night. That Kim McFarland is a singin somebody! Gonna need another day or two to marinate (lol) but Let The Word Do the Work got a couple of spins outta me so I'm at least feeling that one..
Donald gets bought without question. He's one of the only artists in my book that gets that privilege.
I am absolutely IN LOVE with this project! This KINGDOM message has become a universal message in the body of Christ. I plan to teach at least 2 or 3 of these songs to my Music Ministry. We're doing "Kingdom Citizens" this coming Sunday! Next Sunday, my Youth Choir is doing "Let the Word Do the Work". Great job, D!
