In the meantime, enjoy these Goodies of the Barrett Sisters KILLING “I’m Going To Fly Away,” on an ooooooooooold PBS special called Going Home to Gospel, hosted by Patti LaBelle and recorded in Chicago some 20 years ago (I’ve still got it on VHS, but it’s rather dusty! Trivia tidbit: it also featured Ricky Dillard & New G, DeLeon, Edwin Hawkins, Albertina Walker, Calvin Bridges, The Mighty Clouds of Joy and others).
LOL, I always wondered if you were from Chicago. Just from your blogs I could tell you had some Chicago in you. Yes, the Barrett Sisters are legendary, but like you said, they are not as well know outside of Chicago. Dont forget about how they kill "Jesus Will"!!!
I LOVE "Say Amen, Somebody!" I think I first saw it in college. That's the benefit of going to a very liberal, liberal arts college. It's full of explorations into cultures and subcultures. Fun times.
