I must say that this is exceptionally great news, because it couldn't happen to a nicer young lady. It's interesting that in an industry that is often looked through a lens of hierarchies, Onitsha has truly proven herself to be the consummate artist and, dare I say, musician. Musician is an appropriate word because I believe that any member of a band (especially headed by the likes of Rickey Minor) is a musician AND, after all, the voice IS an instrument. You can catch Onitsha on some episodes of "American Idol" along side the likes of BGV Legends, such as Sy Smith (a powerhouse in the indie & soul music scenes), Kenya Hathaway (Donny's second daughter, Lalah being the first), and Sharlotte Smith (who's sang with everyone from Whitney to Chaka-all on YouTube, by the way). Onitsha's Stillwater Label (a subsidiary of Hidden Beach) debut album is stellar and a great merger of varying styles and pays homage to a myriad of influences of not only her, but many of her peers alike (myself included). She exemplifies many missing qualities in up and coming talent, and dare I say it, even quite a few artists that she's rubbed elbows with that have even more notoriety in the biz than she. Perhaps this can inspire a possible feature in the BGV section, although I'm not sure if Onitsha would qualify, as she is frontwoman in her own right. Okay, I'm done rambling... Peace and Love, AFR
