On TV: Lift Every Voice

Who watched Lift Every Voice on Sunday?

I enjoyed this episode more than any other I’ve seen so far.  Mary Mary talked about their new bath and body line, Be You.  I hear it’s gonna be available all over the place, including Wal-Mart.  I hope it’s good.  You know how some people’s candles be burning all quick and what not…

I love love love the fact that they talked openly about a huge fight that they recently had, and that they spoke candidly about the reality of disagreeing with each other while still being called to minister together. And, I loved Erica’s testimony about her husband, Warryn Campbell, being recently healed from cancer.  Good stuff.

The second interview was with Grammy Award-winning songstress Chrisette Michele, who was fun, friendly and personable.  By market terms, she’s not a “gospel artist,” but she is a Christian who stepped into a secular industry to sing about the merits of Christian values– her lyrics stress abstinence, positive self-identity and true love.  She mentioned that she wants to record a worship album.  She sings her face off and she’s a worshipper, so I bet I’ll just about pass out.

Who else saw it?

THis was a great episode of Lift Every Voice. I'm liking the new host- not that I had anything against Gerard whatsoever- it's a good change. I love Mary Mary and how transparent they are. Truly they minister in song but also with their lives. I can't wait to support their bath and body line. Lastly ahhh Chrisette Michelle... I was soooooo surprised. I had no idea she was a true christian. This explains why when I was trying desperately to find her song "If I had my way" to download I could not. Amazon did not have it. This explains it all. anyway I was very impressed with her as a young woman and I truly hope and pray that she is given the opportunity to do the worship album she speaks of. HEr voice is soo different but so distinct, I think it will be a great addition to the gospel world. And EJ she gave you a shout out! You blowin up big my brotha!

As any other person, I love Lift Every Voice, but what I am trying to understand is why are secular artists being featured on it every week? Can we not have the little bit of air time to just display all gospel artists? It's not like there is much air time for gospel as is, so why limit the air time that gospel artists recieve anymore by incorporating people from the secular music industry? I watched it this week and in addition to Bobby Jones and James Fortune, Monica and Bobby Valentino was featured. And a few weeks ago, Rick Ross was featured....??? I mean, what kind of message is this sending to those that are just coming to Christ and who are battling with giving up secular music? Its like even though we are to separate ourselves from that type of music, we still endorse them by putting them on a gospel show!!! Its too much for me...
