Word has it that BET is fixin’ to launch another gospel-themed spin-off program… Gospel Comic View: A Time to Laugh. The show will be hosted by Vickie Winans. Open-call auditions will be held THIS WEDNESDAY, February 25th, at Uptown Comedy Center in Marietta, GA.
Okay, BET, tread lightly. Just cuz 106 & Gospel has taken off and we’re feelin’ it DOES NOT mean that you’re guaranteed success in the gospel comedy area (primarily cuz we don’t even like gospel comedy that much).
Now, having said that, I dare not discourage y’all from watching. I think we all should. I, for one, will be watching for the following reasons: (1) I’m supporting all things GOSPEL, (2) Vickie Winans is hilarious to me and, even if the comedians don’t bring it, SHE will! LOL
What do y’all think???

EJ, we used to agree on everything, but now we seem to be disagreeing of late. Vickie Winans, hilarious??? I think having Vickie Winans host is a mistake, she's really not funny to me at all. Whether its successful or not, it is nice to see people giving gospel based shows a chance.
@luda: LoL. I've never heard her practiced routines, but the impromptu Vickie Winans is absolutely hilarious to me. No???
No! (LOL)
It's about time they brought some gospel comedy to BET!! I'm not too sure if I would cast Vickie as my first choice for the host but we'll see. They could have got Chris Tucker,....wait has he been released yet?!
Vickie is funny and a cool person...there are a few great gospel comedians I've heard...i just pray they dont have the same material and/or same approach.
@Ray... Okay I'm slow... what happened to Chris Tucker? And I would be REALLY scared that something just might slip... Remember Steve Harvey "don't trip he ain't through with me yet". The best part was the end when he did the introduction of Christ. Now I agree with EJ on part of his comment. BET should tread very lightly with this gospel comedy. There aren't a whole lot of comedians out here who perform gospel comedy that are that funny. I mean Jonathan Slocumb is good and I'm sure there are a few others but it's slim pickings. Now if this is going to be a amatuer show like lets find the next gospel comedian... mayyyybe. A big Maybe. Now I am unsure about Vickie Winans being that funny to carry a show... They could have rethought that one.
@highly favored.....It was on tv about a month or so ago where I saw that about Chris; I caught the end so I dont remember details. But I pray the best for the brotha.
Hey Folks! Can't Christian get a turn!? The only time saints get a chance on network or cable tv is usually on christian channels. BET needs to clean-up comicview. As far as christian comedians not being funny, that is probably the case when one of your secular comics fronts like he is a gospel comic just to get a gig! There are many hilarious comedian you can listen to with your whole family! Go to youtube and see!
@Christian Comedian: God Bless and Welcome!! I hear what you're saying. And, to be fair, there are SEVERAL hilarious Christian comedians out there. When I was at the taping of the Stellars this year, Akintunde was the warm-up guy during set changes and what not. He did a brilliant job. But I think the key to being a great Christian comedian (just my opinion) is that your repertoire can't just be about church stuff. Even though Christians spend time there, and it's our common ground, we still live a very NATURAL life and we still wanna hear jokes about gas prices being high, about kids acting up-- and it doesn't have to be church-based to be Christian-based. Just my thought, but I dunno. Anyone else???
This venture into Gospel comedy on BET is going to change the face of comedy worldwide. There are a number of really talented Gospel comedians on the forefront and you are about to see it for yourself. I am excited and happy to be a part of this once underground movement. Folks, there are true men and women of God who have choose to use their gift of comedy to be a blessing to the nations. I just want to know why the vibe is so negative? Christians are just as hard on "Christian" comics as heathens are, if not harder. Praise God that Christian comics are receiving the opportunity to get some exposure. Like anything else, if you just place the word "gospel" on it doesn't guarantee success. But to folks that are skeptical - hold on because you are able to be well pleased.

@Willie: Welcome! I'ma check your site out. @bowtie madness: Welcome to you, too! I hear what you're saying... I think you're right about folks (especially Christians) being a little skeptical when it comes to comedy, but be fair-- we haven't really been given much reason to think differently! Like I said before, there are SEVERAL good Christian comics out there, so I know they exist... unfortunately, we haven't really had much exposure to them. Hopefully, through new outlets, we'll see the true gifts that are there. You feel me?
I know dat's right Mike Goodwin! (Holla at ya boy!) The thing I'm scared of is BET booking comics who are "clean" and not "Christian" as we all know, Christian means "Christ Like" when you blur the line between the two you get problems because the Christians are thinking where is God? And the Unbelievers are thinking, "Well, maybe I'm a Christian already if Bo Bo is on the show because he was just drinking and clubbing with me last week!" Times are so hard right now across the board, I know a Muslim who is about to do the new Comic View! For real, no joke!
@Christian Comedian: you'd better SAY THAT! Interesting dichotomy that I never considered, actually. THANK YA.
LaVance Lining. Slap my name in youtube to check out a clip. I'm waiting on my stimulus package before I get an actual website.
Heck, we got Gospel singers and Preachers of the Gospel living wack Christian lives also. So let's not hold comics to a different standard. People are people. Churches need to do some research before bringing folks in. Just check their myspace page or youtube. It doesn't take long for the heart of man to be exposed. EJ- you are correct - Christian comics gotta bring it. Just because you call yourself a Christian comedian - doesn't give you a Holy Ghost pass on not being funny. I'm confident that this show will introduce a larger population to some sho nuff funny Christian Comics.
I was one of the comedians who taped on Friday afternoon, the audience was small but responsive and the comedians really brought it they were all very good and they had some great comedians tape on Saturday too. I was worried about secular comedians who you can see any night of the week in a night club taking God's name in vain and then cleaning it up to be on television, and true Christian comedians who are ministering for Christ not get on the show, because they're are some great Christian comedians out there who did not tape and hopefully there will be a season 2, but this is just the tip of the ice berg
You're right Joe, in these last days God is taking back all forms of entertainment. Our kind of comedy has been the exception, soon it will be the standard. congrats on the taping, we taped GANJ in Maryland the same day but we didn't meet personally...God Bless.
