ChitChat: O Canada (New Series)

In case you didn’t know, the song “O Canada” is the national anthem of our neighbors to the north.

And it’s also the name of my newest series!

I got a Facebook IM from a loyal reader in Toronto who basically said “umm… when are you gonna feature some Canadian artists?!”  And the reality of the situation is that the United States gospel market hasn’t exactly EMBRACED the Canadian gospel community…

…which is weird considering we’ll run up there to do a live recording in a MINUTE (i.e., Hezekiah Walker’s Live In Toronto, Ricky Dillard’s 7th Episode, and James Hall’s upcoming live recording in a coupla weeks).

Soooooooo… O Canada will feature some stuff that’s going on in the Canadian gospel music scene.  If you don’t live in Canada, read it anyway cuz it’s good to know what the Kingdom is doing WORLDWIDE, not just in your church, amen?

And if you live in Canada, I’ma need some content!  Get at me!

Canadians have been on the gospel/black music scene for a while. Isn't Bishop Paul Morton Canadian? I remember Sharon Riley and the Faith Chorale (Blues Brothers 2000) are from Canada. Sean Simmons is Canadian. Denise Williams is Canadian. There are a couple of notable mentions in R&B (Tamia and Deborah Cox). Are you gonna do a series on London groups like Raymond and Co?

@Mylum: LOL! You're making your way through this whole site! Yes, I'm gonna be featuring Raymond & Co. in the foreseeable future, I believe. You like them???

Hey EJ! I'm really glad you're featuring Canadian artists. I always complain that our artists don't get enough exposure in US audiences. I'm very excited about this venture. Keep up the good work. You should also check out the group Freedom 2 Worship [ www.myspace.com/freedom2worship], the Toronto Mass Choir [www.tmc.ca].
