On TV: 106 & Gospel

It was a good show, I guess.  But I have to say that I’m kinda tired of the same music videos now.  Like, reeeeaaaally tired.

Also, the choir “battle” was NO good for me… it seemed more like a subtle disagreement. And I love how diplomatic Donald Lawrence was in his critiques of them– stripping away the eloquent and encouraging words, though, I think he was basically just saying “me no likey.”

BTW, how THRILLED were we to see Donald Lawrence on the show?!  He did a great interview and sang “Let the Word Do the Work.”  The audience got with him more than they have with some of the more “urban/youth” artists.  Hmmm… makes you wonder what folks are really lookin’ for.

And I gotta shout out some of the sickest most enjoyable singers in the game– the “Co.”  (See?!  I’m using positive words, Donald!)  Only three of ‘em were there– Anita Wilson, Tobbi White-Darks and Blanche McAllister– but they were on point, as usual, doggone it!

What did you think???

so i watched the show for the first time... and uh... yeah. When they asked Donald to critique the guest choirs i was like... now HOW will he clean this up? Cause i knew he wouldnt go hard on em... but my my my... that's all i will say. And if they trying to play all the PROFESSIONALLY done videos (non-live church recording vids) then i would think they'd be limited... Not sure if i'll watch next week... :-/ But i am enjoying Sundays Best... keeps my heart healthy..

Well I'm sad to say that I missed most of the show (I only saw Donald Lawrence's performance at the end) so I can't comment too much on it BUT in terms of the videos..... while I understand and agree I am leary that if people start to complain they will start showing the LBV's. (low budget videos). They need to step up their game a little bit and don't e afraid to show some of the classics.

Yeah I agree about the music videos....there's more to gospel music than just "Good In The Hood." It's good that we're trying to get the young people, but I think that a lot of people underestimate our generation's tolerance for "more traditional" and "churchy" music. And there needs to be that variety to keep their attention. And the choir segment...that shouldn't have even been televised. God bless them, but I'm sorry....that first choir was a little bit ridiculous I just want us to come up with our own ideas...I'm not necessarily feeling "the gospel version of 106 & Park" with the same segments and competitions just like them.

@A Will: For it to be your first one, you caught one of the less exciting shows of the season. Give it another shot b/c they generally have some good content. @Highly Favored: LOL @ "LBVs"... you know, I wouldn't mind some classics myself, either! @Brenden: You almost took me OUTTA here with "that shouldn't have even been televised." LOL I'm with you-- dunno what the criteria has been, but we need to set some more... appropriate standards. On a broader note, I'm prolly gonna post something soon about how we, as a gospel community, often take whatever's hot and say "so, let's make a GOSPEL version." stay tuned cuz i want your feedback.

whew! d lawerence commenting on the choir BATTLE! When they started quizzin him all I could think of was the Old Hawkins tune" Don't wait till the battle is over SHOUT NOW! cause I was holdin my breath to see how the sauve, debonair, diplomatic, politically correct D Lawerence was gonna Press His Way Thru this one. Then I remembered his experience with the Verizon Choir Competition and how capably he handled that. He had to bring all of that and a whole lot of anointing into place to make it thru THAT Piece I concur with the comment about Let the word do the work was blazin hot and very very very well recieved! Here is my question: Why is this show on at 12 noon on Sundays, to catch the younguns who DO NOT Attend church or the ones who go to 8 am service? Help please!

@dee cee: WELCOME! You are soooo right! LoL I hate that the show airs at noon. Though the Lord has blessed me with a DVR, that's not everybody's testimony and a lot of folks who would LOVE to watch end up missing it. I smell a petition comin' on in my SPIRIT! LoL
