Word Has It: Mary Mary Shot Their New Video

Word has it that Mary Mary shot the new video for their latest single, “God In Me,” featuring Kierra Sheard, in Los Angeles over the weekend.

According to my source, on hand to make cameo appearances in the video: Common, Kanye West, Farnsworth Bentley and Shanice… and this, a follow-up to David Banner being featured on their album on “Superfriend.”  Mmmmmmmm…

I can see the church mothers shaking their heads and the evangelists gettin’ their anointing oil… You KNOOOOW the saints are gonna be talking, so we may as well get it goin’ right here.

I say “I’m not surprised” and “I don’t know how much I care.”  I disagree with several offensive things that I’ve heard Common say, so I’m not a fan.  Kanye West is… Kanye West.  And on and on.  If they subscribe to the message of the song, that’s cool– “you think I’m so fresh, you think I’m so clean… but it’s the GOD in me.”  You don’t have to be a gospel artist to say that and mean it.  And I don’t think the Marys are wrong for letting ‘em on the video to say it.  Baby steps bring many to Christ, and if God uses this to bring some little Kanye West fan to check out a Mary Mary album, and salvation follows years later… I dunno if we can say “shouldn’t have done it” cuz of how we feel about it.

I think that’s all I’ma say for now.  What say you?

Oh, and MANY thanks to one of my unofficial, didn’t-agree-to-be-one-but-EJ-doesn’t-really-care correspondents.  I appreciate ya! LOL

GO MARY MARY I LUV THESE GURLS....the word says you must go out into the world and COMPEL them to come...the unsaved aint gon come on they on you gotta reach them where they at without taking god out of the equation which I feel is wat mary mary is doing... I love how they could care less about "church folk" they worried bout the one who don't know him....kudos to them

@mdixon. I agree that we need to win souls, but I don't agree that this is the way to go about it. Think about it. When people in the world are in need of deliverance, how is it a help to them to see the very people who are bound set forth as examples of freedom? That doesn't make any sense. If someone was addicted to crack, would you put a known crack head in front of them and say model this in order to be free? That's ludicrous... and I don't mean the rapper. LOL! So many people get sucked into believing that we're obeying the great commission when we compromise. We can't compel anybody to come, when we condone the foolishness that they need to be coming out of. I'm not gone get no help up in here. How in the world can we liberate anybody by putting figures in a Christian video that live lives that clearly undermine the message of Christ and the kingdom and say "It's the God in Me"??? It's more like the Devil in them. LOL! Again, I say ABSOLUTELY NOT...

I am glad that somebody is still able to see the tricks of Satan! It is wrong for women to sensually parade around singing about God the way that these women do. It is time for the church to choose who they will serve. "You can not ride two horses with one tail!" God commands us to be hot or cold; otherwise he will spit us out. In Mathews, the verse shows that if one thirsts for righteousness, he will find it. If a person really wants what God has, that person will come to church. READ YOUR BIBLE EVERYBODY. LIGHT DOES NOT DWELL IN DARKNESS....HOW CAN TWO WALK TOGETHER UNLESS THEY AGREE? It is time to fast and pray cause they are going backwards! When Satan decided to sing praises unto himself, he was kicked out of heaven...READ YOUR BIBLE

They're saying it's the God in me, but only the devil does tricks! God performs miracles. And please tell me why is the last video "Get Up" showing someone dancing like that? They should have showed children "getting up" and going to school or Obama "getting up" to make his speech about education or preachers "getting up" in the altar for the truth or mothers "getting up" telling their daughters not to wear tight clothes for attention or fathers "getting up " to lead their families properly or people "getting up " with the spirit of God bringing joy or prostitutes "getting up" with a better job or graduates "getting up" on stage to get a diploma or boys "getting up" to pull those pants up right or homosexuals "getting up" realizing that they can not reproduce!

lol funny get up lol...yall make valid points but I gotta disagree...but hey to each his own....they winning souls for G so im happy im sure he is too...I've never seen them compromise yea they supposedly have these rap stars in their video but who are we to say that kanye or common aint saved and don't have a personal relationship with them....how do u know that erica and tina weren't ministering to these people during and before shoot...if they right in gods eye then kewl

@mdixon: Kanye does admit to believing in God, but he doesn't believe in a lifestyle committed to God's word and faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Without those things, you CAN'T be saved. Here's a quote from Kanye from an interview last month: "I believe in Jesus as an icon, but I don’t feel the responsibility to put my life on Jesus." If you want his full perspective in this interview you can find it here. http://bossip.com/76535/exclusive-pt-1-kanye-religion-is-like-branding/ Kanye doesn't even claim to be saved. I think this issue is cut and dry. If Mary Mary wants to minister to someone lost that's great. But don't put them out there as examples of godly lifestyles when they're not living up to that. That's where they go wrong. EJ... I was trying to save my "hissy fit" maaan!!! But this is a great discussion. I'm glad we're having it.

Kanye West has been spotted dancing around women and using inappropriate language. God is glorious; therefore, if he is on the inside his omnipotent power shines through in a person's work, especially artwork. Take this website for example, EJ is obviously drawn to positive music. There is an inward desire to project gospel music more and discuss it. Let's examine Mr. Kanye West because God is just AND true; not nearly as puzzling as people PORTRAY for personal reasons. Does the majority of Kanye's work project a positive image? The very evident fact that his faith is questioned is a billboard answer "NO"! MaryMary knows what they are doing, just as Eve knew the fruit was forbidden, though delicious. I just pray that they stop allowing the devil to waste their time and talents before it is too late. Besides, what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul. God has given us the answer to these issues. READ THE BIBLE. God is coming back. He is not going to accept lame excuses about trying to reach someone lost by picking up evil ways. THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!

  • EJ wrote on March 5, 2009

I'm loving this discussion-- keep it coming! I'll add on: do we, as gospel consumers, have an obligation to STOP buying the albums of folks who do this? can't we simply pray for them AND still support? what's best?

  • Katydid wrote on March 5, 2009

I purchased their other 2 cds. This is an issue that I wrestle with also. The answer is to stop buying their music when this happens. Spiritual requests for God to strengthen them is best. You can also purchase separate downloads. I loved "I Call Him Jesus", Thank You, "We are Not Ashamed" with Karen Clark. Whenever one starts to question the validity of gospel music, something is wrong. True gospel music immediately empowers you to do what is right. It will not make you think about sin or become confused. I accept the truth even when it hurts and pray for more righteousness. God will help us! He has built a church and it will stand. The Hebrew boys proved that he will help us!

  • mdixon wrote on March 5, 2009

well I guess im one of those decieved people lol watev...their recent cd ministered to me on many levels so complaining I can't do they drew me closer to christ....but its the devil in them that compels me to worship god..its the devil in them that makes me praise god...... I guess so....wat about all the flaming homosexuals and downlow ones too in gospel music do we condemn their ministry too even though they are drawing souls closer too?? sorry playing devils advocate.. feel like talkin

  • EJ wrote on March 5, 2009

@mdixon: good point. unfortunately, we Christians are quick to classify certain sins that we will NOT tolerate, and others that we sure don't like, but will prolly excuse. right?!

  • mdixon wrote on March 5, 2009

and that's the issue that unsaved have wit the "christians" that's the issue I have wit "christians" I just gave my life to christ in 04 and it was folks like kirk and mary mary that drew me to god because because it was something musically familiar but they wasn't talkin bout grindin or whips etc..they were singing about GOD!!! but I guess its ok for names I won't mention to hold these "gospel" conventions tryna find a man but that's neither here nor there

  • Katydid wrote on March 5, 2009

You follow a person as they follow Christ, but some turn away led by their own lust. For example, a friend could encourage me to go back to school for another degree. We could start the program together. What if he/she decides to quit and sell drugs? Should I continue to follow this person as she pollutes her/his soul and waste time. This analogy can also be examined when one of Jesus disciples betrayed him. He may have helped people learn about Jesus, but later he became corrupt for pieces of silver (TODAY THAT'S BLING FROM WORKING WITH KANYE AND OTHER LITTLE DEMONS THAT INFLUENCE OUR YOUTH). Speaking of Kirk Franklin, did he have on those tight pants he wears now when he led you to Christ back in 04?

  • EJ wrote on March 5, 2009

I generally feel that the best answer is a whole lot less judgin' and a whole lot more prayin'. That said, I think that the GREATEST THING EVER happened as a result of Christ's disciple betraying him. I shudder to think what would have become of me if the followers of Christ had actually SUCCEEDED in stopping the "injustice" that was his crucifixion. Sometimes God uses what WE consider "not right" for some beautiful stuff.

  • Katydid wrote on March 5, 2009

God is the word EJ. It shows us this in St. John. I am not the judge, but God's word is alive and most definitely for the lawless. His word is as a two edged sword. He also said that it would have been good if that man had not been born. READ THE BIBLE. I understand what you mean and appreciate your perspective. This is a very nice site. Usually people start cursing and acting foolish by this point; but I enjoy learning from my brothers and sisters. Twinky says, " I EXPECT A MIRACLE EVERYDAY. GOD CAN MAKE A WAY OUT OF NO WAY. His word is truly pouring out on all flesh. Just think, this site is being used within that process. Thanks!

  • Anonymous wrote on March 6, 2009

Wow! I missed a lot. To make my position clear, I'll conclude with this. I don't have a problem with the MESSAGE in Mary Mary's music. They clearly have sound themes and principles in their song lyrics. THAT'S on point. I DO, however, believe that it matters WHO they partner up with in order to push that healthy message forward. And I don't think Kanye West and other artists with lifestyles that deviate from our Christian values, are the appropriate examples we need to be putting in front of our already confused and wayward youth to draw them to Christ. That's not being radical; that's practical guys. C'mon. These young people today are confused. Can't we see that? These are young souls at stake. We've got to do better than this. Sigh. It just grieves me. :-(

  • Chloe wrote on March 6, 2009

EJ -- here's my question to you ... if you don't think its wrong of the Marys to put them in the video, then whats the difference with the BET producers (or other shows) for doing the same thing by putting secular/mainstream acts on their "GOSPEL" shows. Wouldn't your theory hold true then that if BET puts an LL COOL J on BET Celebration of Gospel & it caused someone to watch the whole program and somehow leads them to a Donnie album or a Mary Mary album and salvation follows, then does it become okay? I recall you saying that you didn't like when shows did that ...

  • Katydid wrote on March 6, 2009

Anonymous, Okay....I just could not resist this one last comment. There are people singing about the power of God (humility, love, respect, virtue, righteousness, moderation); but their body language and dress shouts something that is the exact opposite. God is not the author of confusion. He has given us a sound mind. The consequence of comprising with "mixed" messages results in a group of "mixed" up people. Has anyone noticed less clothes on the cover of GOSPEL albums now? WOW!

  • EJ wrote on March 6, 2009

@Chloe: I hear what you're saying, but I think the distinction that I'm drawing is moreso one of how the "unsaved" or "secular/mainstream" are PRESENTED. So, I am thrilled if, from Lift Every Voice or Celebration of Gospel, some LL Cool J fans came to Christ. That's not my beef. My beef with Lift Every Voice is that they apparently changed the format of the show without telling anyone. If you recall, I said that I don't mind BET showing different viewpoints of religion, so long as they make it clear that they're doing so. The difference here is also one of what is being stated. Viewers of the Mary Mary video will see secular cameos and draw whatever assumptions they want , but Lift Every Voice actually goes out of its way to present secular folks as somehow HARMONIOUS with the belief systems of the gospel artists being featured. It's ALMOST 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other, I realize... but that's how I sleep at night. LOL Or maybe I just like The Marys... ;-)

  • CHLOE wrote on March 6, 2009

Okay, I kinda get your distinction, but couldn't it be said that the mere appearance of secular artists in a mary mary video by inference says they (the marys) ARE 'harmonious' with them & cool with their lifestyle - both in and outside of this one video? For example, if i took on a client (who for the sake of argument is doing a One-Time gospel album), linked MY name with theirs professionally and promoted only their Gospel record, but their lifestyle and the other things they put out there in the public are contrary to God's Word - then what would that say about Me? Does it say I'm good with living both ways?

  • Anonymous wrote on March 6, 2009

@katydid: Yes ma'am they are taking off lots more clothes in the gospel industry. I don't know when I've seen so much cleavage, leg, back... and everything else. In the world, there's that pressure to sell sex in order to sell albums and because the world caters to the lust of the flesh, in that context, it makes sense--even though I don't agree or condone it. But disciples of Christ are not like them... at least we SHOULDN'T be. I fear our "salt" is losing its "savor". Heeeelllp Lawd (I'm singing this with the COGIC "Yes Lord" melody) Can you hear it? LOL!

I have been reading all of the comments and everyone has valid points but one thing I would caution is to be careful that we do not judge. The Word clearly states that we should not judge lest we be judged. While each of us has been through many different things that now brings us to our own individual walk and relationship with God, we must realize that we have to answer to the Father for what WE have done or not done. I think that we the "church" the called out ones in Christ must stop looking to the Gospel artists as "infallible". They are human beings just like you and me which means they may make the wrong decision or do something that is not pleasing to God but we do not have a heaven or hell to put them in. I feel that not supporting them by stop buying their music gives satan the victory in that God's word is being stopped by God's children. People remember God said that we must love another as He has loved us. I enjoy Mary Mary and Kirk as well as some of the other artists but God does not want us to be closed up behind four walls of a building we must go out and spread God's word without compromising his word. So while we may not see Kanye give his life over to God you never know what affect this interaction may have on him. Remeber one plants, another waters but it's God who gives the increase. Great discussion though! Thank God we all Love JESUS!! Cause some of these comments are... whew!!!

  • mdixon wrote on March 7, 2009

  • Katydid wrote on March 7, 2009

Highly Favored: Each individual who has made a comment on this subject has a valid point because the Creator blessed each of us with the right and ability to think and choose. God is the judge. He explains in his word what is right and wrong. In the bible it describes a group of people who could no longer tell their " right from their left" Jonah was asked to speak to them. I did not write the "TEN COMMANDMENTS" or any other rule within biblical verses that tell people how to conduct themselves. The bible shows that there are some behaviors that will not be permitted in heaven. We will all be judged on JUDGEMENT DAY. This includes "everything" whether it is good or evil. Who is going to hide from this? Nobody. God created heaven and hell. I admit that I struggle with this too, but I am not going to call wrong ...right. Genuine assistance is given when you can tell a person.. Hey, sister according to the WORD OF GOD..that is wrong. In Proverbs, a wise man receives counsel. Your comment about love is the absolute truth.

  • luda wrote on March 7, 2009

Frankly, Im not fond with Kanye being in the video, but lets face it, they are doing it to draw more attention to the video. I dont know if you all know, but since Kanye West did Jesus Walks, he's changed his opinion on his religious beliefs and is saying some really crazy stuff. Check out his vibe interview february 2009. On the other hand, he hasnt been the same since his mom passed, and I think he's needs some help. Like someone else mentioned, we are to love everyone. He is extremely gifted, and Jesus Walks is an incredible song, and it shows that at one time he was in a serious relationship with Jesus. You cant just write a song like that and not know Jesus. That song was God inspired. Now, let me flip the script for a moment. Well, hmm, we question whether it is cool for a secular artist to be in a gospel video. So, would it be better if they put gospel artists in the video who live "alternative" lifestyles. I'm so tired of seeing our young men dying and we have to lie and say they died from something other than what it really was: HIV or AIDs. We are so quick to judge secular artist, and we seem to just sort of ignore the stuff that's happening in our own backyard because we are "saved, santified, filled with the Holy Ghost". So, as a father, which would concern me more: My young impressionable son watching Kanye or T-Pain in the Mary Mary video, or my young impressionable son watching a super feminine man prancin around like a woman in the Mary Mary video. Fred Hammond and Yolanda Adams have had divorces, J.Moss has had a baby out of wed lock, and Kirk was addicted to porn. So I guess what I'm sayin is like EJ, we just have to pray more, and stop throwing stones, cause we all got issues.

  • Katydid wrote on March 7, 2009

Luda: Reminding someone of the truth and redirecting them is not throwing a stone. A stone will bust you in the head. Jesus showed us stoning does not work years ago when that lady was running because she was found in adultery. Now he did tell her to -GO AND SIN NO MORE! God's truth that shines light brings righteousness. This is turning into an online sunday school class. I love it! Luda, read Mathew , Chapter 7 What do you think Jesus was talking about here?

  • luda wrote on March 7, 2009

well, Missionary Katydid, there are 29 verses in chapter 7, so it's saying an awful lot:-) I wrote a whole essay, and all you got out of it is my 3 words, "stop throwing stones"??? I do agree that reminding someone of the truth and redirecting them is not throwing a stone. I just think sometimes we use that truth to expose others faults, but not our own.

  • EJ wrote on March 7, 2009

@luda: LOL. You really DID write a whole essay! @all: I DO know that Matthew 7 says, at verse 18, "a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." And mdixon, as an example, has already said that he came to Christ through the ministries of Kirk & Mary Mary, so... that's some good fruit, ain't it?

  • Katydid wrote on March 7, 2009

Thanks Luda, Have you seen the video on Youtube called "Mary Mary & Ciara - Get Up (Music Video) 2008" Just type in what I put in quotation marks in the Youtube search engine. Watch the whole video. Hmmmmm. Out of all discussions on this site, this one seems to be the most lengthy.......Hmmmmmm........

  • Justin wrote on March 7, 2009

Thank you Luda for flippin the script. As as a young man I would much rather see T-Pain or Kanye in the video, than say, the man who was prancin around on the STELLARS doin Beyonce, PRAY saints lol. It is important that we view these artist and entertainers as HUMANS, who are trying to work out their salvation as much as we are, they just so happen to be doing it in front of a much broader audience. Consequently, that could mean that they have to cater their message for their intended audience. That's COM 101. Mary Mary nor Kirk is the average gospel artist who just sings at churches, Bobby Jones Artist Retreats, or GMWA. The song is called 'GOD in Me", and last time I checked I didn't know that HE was limited to dwelling in the saints, and gospel artists. We need saints in the "whole" music industry, in Hollywood, on Broadway, and in business ventures, and maybe this is Mary Mary's way of making a godly impact, and reaching out an olive branch in their field. Subsequently, they are seeking to EFFECT THE CULTURE, which is something THE CHURCH has been failing at for many years now. The song is totally about SWAG, and the TYPICAL model for SWAG isn't the stereotypical gospel artist or church going saint. I think Mary Mary is seeking to change that archetype, to show that the SAINTS have swag too, and maybe even to a greater magnitude because Christ dwells within :-) It would have been futile to have only pastors and gospel artists that the 106 & Park, MTV/Youtube viewer has no name/face recognition of. ROCK on MARY MARY! and thank you luda!

Hi Justin! Thank you for adding another comment on this topic. Thank you for showing everyone in cyberspace that there is a SERIOUS issue with Kanye in a video with MaryMary. This is such a well designed site showing the number of comments per topic. This would add some statistical supportive data in my next persuasive speech on "Compromising Causes Consequences" It also proves another prophetic verse in the bible that explains how people will continue to learn, but some will never come to the knowledge of truth. It also says that in the last days men will be high minded and lovers of themselves.

  • Katydid wrote on March 8, 2009

Everybody: 2 Timothy 3:2 is truly a prophetic verse. Notice all the rappers chanting about themselves? Have you seen the children in classes that refuse to hear the teachers cause they are too busy flashing their clothes.

What a spirited discussion :). I have nothing against Mary-Mary or their music, but I can't help but ask, what's the intent behind this decision? What good will come out of collaborating with artists whose lifestyles clearly deviates from the standard to which we've been called to live and or have unapologetically voiced their disbelief in Jesus as the Savior? As an aside, I'm not implying that we should be silent about gospel artists who have questionable lifestyles, that in my opinion is a differnt subject matter. I'm all for stepping out of the box and finding new and creative ways to reach our generation with the gospel of Jesus Christ, but as much as I try, I'm unable to see the logic behind using folks who obviously are in need of that good news to reach others who do. But maybe, just maybe this project is not about sharing the gospel, but just an entertaining piece to talk about "the God in me"... which begs the question, is God living in individuals who have not accepted Christ as their personal Savior?... but that may be too controversial so please forget that I asked. When all is said and done I can only pray that this decision has been prayerfully thought through by Erica and Tina and that their honest intent is to ultimately bring Glory and Honor to God. If their heart is in the right place, even if this decision is a mistep, He will cause it to work together for good!

Hey EJ when is the video to be released? I am so ready to see it since it's spurred this fiesty yet friendly debate. I appreciate everyone's views. No one is right or wrong but we all have our views and opinions and the Bible, God's word, is open to interpretation which is always a source of disagreements. This is why Timothy says to study to show thyself approved... I myself am extremely cautious when it comes to judging others only because of my experience when I first got saved. I was so "holy" and heavenly bound that I was no earthly good. lol! As Rodney King said... can't we all just get along? (Okay so maybe I shouldn't have used him with his situation and all but ya'll get what I'm saying.

I was trying not to comment, but guys here it goes: First off, I don't see a problem with who they have in their video. Second, all this talk about God and what's wrong or right and who is wrong or right. I believed no one mention that JESUS came for the sinner man, the gentile. He hung out with the lowest( not saying the ppl in the video are the lowest), me, you and everyone else. Now the key thing that are doing is meeting ppl on their level. They are really trying to reach the youth in the world because they are so hooked on looks, who you know, and music. In YL(YoungLife)when they play that the kids go bananas and we teach JESUS. If I can tell you what I heard, dealt with, seen and at the end of day from HANGING OUT with them how they gave their lives to Christ; it will flip your wig. Oh yeah, we don't always listen to gospel music. So Mary Mary go head!!! IT'S JUST JESUS!!!!! @everyone Love your comments!!! Let's all be about JESUS!!! God Bless

  • Liveforchrist wrote on April 14, 2009

To Highly Favored!!! I don't mean to comment on just yours but we really need to stop using that Judging scripture out of context so much. Everytime someone uses that scripture they only read that first verse and never quote the rest that comes after it. Because if you read the entire text it also clearly states that as Christians we are to judge. How many times have you heard someone whine, "Judge not, that ye be not judged?" This verse of Scripture from Matthew 7:1 is often quoted out of context by people who are terrified at the idea of someone preaching against sin or pointing out any form of error in anyone, especially in themselves. "As we are about to see, God EXPECTS His people to judge. In fact, you are sinning against God if you refuse to judge! (Read that again, please) " Now I do not wish to imply that we should spend all of our time judging. Sometimes people judge when they have no business doing so. In John 7:24 Jesus tells us to judge RIGHTEOUS judgment. This can only be done by following the rules that God has established in His word. 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. "But in John (7:24) Jesus says we should "judge righteous judgment." And Paul (1 Cor.2:15, 5:12-13, 6:2-3) tells Christians to judge everyone -- believers, non-believers, even the angels are to be judged by "the saints." To judge or not to judge What must you do to be saved? 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (7:3-4) "A beam is in thine own eye" Avoid hypocrisy. Consider your own faults rather than criticizing others. 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. So what it's basically saying "Highly Favored" you can judge, but you need to make sure you have your own life in order before you judge someone else. I know this is long, but it literally makes me sick everytime someone uses this scripture out of context. And also you stated not to compromise, but listening to Mary Mary and Kirk who are clearly compromising is condoning compromise. And your not giving Satan control by not buying thier CD's because how can you give Satan control when God wasn't a part of their music in the first place. Now don't get me wrong when Kirk and Mary Mary first started they were nothing like this, but now it's not about God, but about self. Sorry!!!!!

Yea I agree with Live for Christ the judging scripture is taken out of context to often. Mary Mary is in it to please man and it's all about the money not about God. Showing your cleavage and singing with Kanye West and LL cool j is not of God.

I needed some place to vent about [EDITED BY EJ FOR DISRESPECTFUL NAME-CALLING] Mary, Mary. I am appalled by the irony of the song that speaks of the God in Me, but the outfits and spiritual demeanor claims the opposite. I began looking at the video and did not make it to the entry of the other people said to be included. The influential but silent partner is not God, but the other thang-that root of all evil thang- that money thang. GOD knows we don't need another trendy song, we need to take a sincere knee. Thanks for listening, I encourage you to pray for us all, false witnesses and prophets are morphing in through everyone.

@Deborah Hines: Welcome to the site! You'll notice that your comments have been edited a bit, as there's no room for name-calling on GospelPundit.com. I agree-- we definitely all need to pray for one another! God Bless!

Hey EJ what do you think about Mary Mary in the Christian arena? Do you think that they give a good representation of the Christian and how we should live?

  • EJ wrote on April 22, 2009

@lovethe1above: I think CHRIST gave a good representation of how we should live. LOL Everyone else, including me, pales in comparison. That said, I do think that Mary Mary looks, acts and lives like most Christian women I know. I think they are doing well.

christians huh they why are yall giving mary mary lip about a great video that attracts people who wouldn't normally listen to there music. when i heard this song i was compelled to listen to lyrics and am wanting to get closer to god from hearing this song because no of the success ive had could be done with out him ITS THE GOD IN ME. if any of yall had the god in you, you wouldn't judge

  • EJ wrote on May 6, 2009

@krbbp55-- Welcome to the site and THANK YOU SO MUCH for that comment. It's so refreshing to hear that people are still being blessed and brought closer to God by Mary Mary and similar artists who tend to push the envelope a bit. Prayin' for ya!

  • lovethe1above wrote on May 8, 2009

That's the point krbbp55, this video is only a source of attraction and it doensn't match the lyrics at all. When I'm watching that video I get no understanding out of it b/c yea they are saying it's the God in me, but they are talking about themselves the whole time and not God. Don't get me wrong now, if you feel that this song has brought you closer to God that's great, now I can't talk for everyone else, but I know that this song is for pure entertainment purposes. You shouldn't have to come up with crafty methods for getting across God's word b/c his word stands alone and his word is not out here to attract people, but to change people. You can attract people with something all day long, but if theres no delieverance or change then theres no meaning. And I know with all my heart that i'm not judging Mary Mary, but simply telling it like it is b/c I'm tired of people sugar coating compromise. And by the way God can still be in a person even if they judge b/c God wants Christians to judge, but in a Godly way. Look at the post above by liveforchrist. no compromise

Here's what the Bible says about about it all. We all must be careful to not forget that the only power is in the name of Jesus. God is generic to many people, when you say Jesus that's when demons tremble and yolks are destroyed. Inspiration is fine but when you come off the high you will still need the power of Jesus to carry you through. Winning the lost shouldn't have to involve agreement with sin or those that condone it. There is power in agreement whether for the kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Darkness. They all must be careful to not let the love of money be there ultimate downfall in the kingdom. They may rise in the world but what does it profit to gain the world and lose your soul or cause others to be led astray. Remember Satan offered Jesus the world if he would bow! 2 Timothy 3:1-4 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. This is just the beginning, just make sure you have a sure foundation and you are not deceived...work out your own soul salvation and look to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Truth Sets Free

MaryMary is a very unique duo,the traditional church will have a hard time with this song. I truely understand. But we must realize that the sound of gospel music has to change, not the message because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever more! God is using these 21st century artist to reach the ones that would never step foot in a church building or setting. We as christians have to be more creative in ministering to the lost,a lot of this gospel artist write a perticular song not just for the body of christ but for the world as well. As long as these guys don't lose focus on there assignment and get caught up in all hype, they will touch many souls that the traditional gospel artist won't touch. Rom.12:2 and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God! Let's keep all of these new school gospel artist in prayer and that they will not lose their vision and conform or compromise to the pressure of this world!

Blah, blah, blah. I have been around long enough to remember folks talking about Andrae` Crouch , Walter Hawkins, the Winans. and other now they are revered "gospel" artist. There are plenty of gospel songs that I don't care for ("Rough side of the Mountain" comes to mind) If you don't like this song, don't listen to it. I'm too busy trying to let other see "The God in Me" to worry about the intent of the Mary's heart.

I recently QUIT DJing @ a gospel radio station because of compromise. It is not right to believe some things of the bible and other things are not for this time. I've heard people say that God doesn't change.........so why would he change now. God calls for a separated life. I couldn't finish watching the Mary Mary video. Because I have a rule..........."If you can turn the sound off then watch could you tell if anything holy or santified was going on?" In this video, if you turn off the sound it looks EXACTLY like a secular BET video. Without the words or beat, there is no visual difference between that and the world. A gospel producer should me this little test. I beesech people to use this technique. Finally, to the "judge not crowd". Apparently you have never read the entire chapter or previous chapters that speak to this. Judge not IS NOT A COMMAND......it is a warning that using spiritual discernment causes people to look at your own flaws because of their guilt. No one wants to be told that they are wrong. So you should 'ask, seek and knock on the door for God to open understanding." If you see no problem with this video....from my experience, you may want to do something similiar. Most that agree with compromise have already compromised and have already started to justify things that God hates. I love Mary Mary....but why are we not supporting new artists who are building a higher standard. Why CAN'T we correct and rebuke like the bible says with out ridicule? Why are we FANS of gospel artists? Don't we know that being a fan of something or someone make that thing an IDOL to you in the sight of God? Why is it always about supporting stars that simply don't need our financial support. Why isn't the gospel music industry working to build a Kingdom of God? What I see is a whole lot of people getting rich and trying to get richer. The bible says "It is easier for a camel to walk through a needle's eye, than a rich man enter heaven." Jesus said it actually. So explain why we aren't following that. I serve the God of my making, not the God of my choice! Hernandes Union
