Remember when mainstream artists (especially in R&B) used to end their albums with a gospel track? Sometimes, it was like “awww… bless you.” But SOMETIMES, it was like “that’s IT!”
Fewer artists are doing it these days, but I had a HIGH TIME today listening to some older projects with gospel tracks on ‘em. I realized “I used to LOVE these songs!!!”
So, here’s a short list of some of my faves…
1. Kelly Price – “Lord Of All” on her debut project, Soul Of A Woman
2. Blackstreet – “The Lord Is Real (Time Will Reveal)” on their Another Level project
3. Brandy - ”Give Me You” on her debut album, Brandy
4. Faith Evans – “Keep The Faith” on her Keep The Faith album
I could go on and on… but y’all weigh-in and lemme know some of your favorite gospel tracks from mainstream artists. You can go as far back as you’d like! Talk to me!
Oh yeah, just cuz… here’s Kelly Price’s “Lord Of All”… still classic.

I always loved Destiny's Child rendition of "Amazing Grace" on their "The Writings On the Wall" album.
Cool topic:-) You picked some great songs too. There were also some great re-makes "I'll be mising you" (Biggie tribute) was a classic (especially when Faith would come in with that little part of "Ill Fly Away" On that same project was 112 re doing "Cry On"....it was great. Any inspirational music from R.Kelly "You Were There" Babyface (classic) "Jesus Walks" Kanye
@Keisha: I wasnt too big on the Destiny Child tune. It was cool, but the best part was the Smallwood amens at the end. Plus, because they did that song, I've had to hear countless other female groups mess it up:-)
^I think you're talking about a different song. They didn't cover Richard Smallwood as apart of "Amazing Grace".
I liked India.Arie's song "This Too Shall Pass" on the Love and Relationships album. I could have done without the predictable gospel choir at the end, but it's still a great song.
I am always surprised when people don't put Stevie in this category....but I am too young to name the actual albums that this is on without doing extensive research....Nevertheless: "10 Zillion Light Years Away" "Have A Talk With God" And the greatest of all..... "As" You might have not thought that was a gospel track...but check the lyrics again buddy...."Until the daylight burns the stars out in the sky...Always...until the ocean covers every mountain high....Always...until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea....Always....." Yeah...that Romans 8:38-39 if i have ever heard it! Let the church say...AMEN!
@Keisha: You're right...my bad, lol
@Mylum: welcome to the site! i loooove some india.arie, so i'ma have to check out those tracks.
"This Too Shall Pass" - Indie Arie! Yes, yes, yes - such a beautiful song!!! Also, if I remember correctly, R. Kelly's "Trade in my Life" -I think that's the one I'm talking about.
Sorry - The R. Kelly song I'm talking about is "You Saved Me".
Does anyone remember The Rude Boys from the early 90s? They had a song called "Praise Song" that was beautiful. And Shirley Murdock's "Instrument of Praise" was lovely as well.
Wow, "Rude Boys"........"it's written all over you face", lol. That's taking me back to my Donnie Simpson Video Soul days.
@EJ. Thanks for the love! "This too Shall Pass" was a hidden track on the album, so you probably won't see the title on the actual album.
@Mylum: I'ma check for it! @Author08: You took it waaaaaaaay back with The Rude Boys! LoL @luda: LOL. I STILL love that song. "You don't have to say a wooooooord."
I personally liked Kelly Price's version of I Know Who Holds Tomorrow! it was amazingly done!
@sherman: Welcome! YES, that song was crazy, too. Just saw raw and in-your-face, right?!
Kelly Price has an amazing voice. I love her version of "I know who holds tomorrow" which is on her album Mirror Mirror. I am also a huge fan of India.Arie and I love "This too shall pass" on Testimony V1.
