I got a personal email from Stephen Hill (Executive Vice President of Entertainment and Music Programming at BET) in response to our petition to Save 106 & Gospel. Though it doesn’t look like BET plans to re-air 106 & Gospel, Mr. Hill’s email was kind and he stressed BET’s commitment to faith-based programming. I appreciate that.
Below is BET’s Official Statement:

NEW YORK, April 9, 2009—
BET is dedicated to providing a wide range of entertainment that relates to the overall African American experience, and we recognize that meeting the needs of our faith-based community is an important part of reaching this goal. That’s why we’ve provided a staple of gospel originals on BET for nearly 30 years, including BOBBY JONES GOSPEL, LIFT EVERY VOICE, VIDEO GOSPEL, CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL, SUNDAY BEST and, most recently, 106 & GOSPEL. Because of our commitment to faith-based programming, we will continue to create new and exciting shows to entertain our audience. However, at times we must also face the hard task of making tough programming decisions, as in the case of 106 & GOSPEL, which was recently cancelled. We will actively continue to create quality programming that resonates with our faith-based community, and we ask for and appreciate your continued support.

Aaarrrgggghhh. As I said before, I’m sooooo not an activist. Dunno if I’m supposed to say “okay, well thanks anyway,” or if I’m supposed to be chartering a bus so we can go and march somewhere.
What do you all think? Do you accept this statement as sufficient, or do you demand MORE?! Talk to me.

Awww man..well it is what it is. I just hope and pray that someone will be sensitive enough to the specific needs of this generation to bring a program or programs that will benefit them; maybe even a faith based reality show (life on the road as a gospel artist or something-balancing minstry and family).
I think you should thank him and leave it alone. I have faith they will create another show. Plus, if they didn't bring Free and AJ back, they are not going to bring 106 and Gospel back...lol. On the real EJ, I commend you for the effort, great job!
I thought The Gospel was powerful enough to stand on it's own. Why did we need to mix it with BET's 106 & Park again???? -and this is from a gospel announcer
I want more!! He did not address our concerns about the time of the show. That is the number 1 reason why the show had low ratings. BET gets on nerves when it comes to faith based programs. I am still upset that they changed the format of lift every voice with Gerard Henry. I like coco brother but it is not the same. BET has to do better.
Hopefully the producers will switch it up a little bit, change the name of the show and pitch to to TBN, the Word Network or Gospel Music Channel.

MARCH! MARCH! MARCH! MARCH!-jk Honestly, at least you made it known that programming on BET does not come and go without notice. Hopefully BET recognizes that it's viewers are mature individuals with high expectations. If they're going to "represent" African-American television the need to do it right. You've done your part, and we appreciate you letter even if BET gave you the brush off.
Although I respect Mr. Hill's position with BET, and his written response to you, I am not satisfied with him remarks. First of all, I believe that 106 & Gospel was "set up for failure". The time slot they gave them was crazy wrong - Aren't most of us in Church at 12:00 Noon or on our way home? Then, for it to only be one hour in duration, and so much being segmented into the show. I strongly believe that they deserve another chance, under a new production team and careful, anointed planning. Amen!
I think the time slot is what hurt it the most because they had big time artists on there. At 12 noon I am in church because my church isnt not over until 1pm. So why not just do it prime time like you 106 and park or right before sunday's best around 7pm? That way you can sit and chill with your family on sunday's and give Him the highest praise. Just a suggestion. Also let it be its own show! Quit trying to put it with 106 and park because 106 has lost its spark and no one cares about that show honestly. Let 106 and Gospel stand on its own. Honestly today is the first time I heard about the cancellation and im angry. BET has gone down the drain completely. They are constantly finding new ways to bring in "regular" programming like "The Deal", "The Pull Up" and these darn re runs of one on and family matters and smart guy. BET isnt trying at all for the gospel community. I think they are believing that we are just suppose to take the two or three shows we have and the celebration of gospel show and be happy. But where there is a will there is a way. I have faith. AHHHH..now i feel better! LOL
Heller everyone, my teenage boys 13& 16 introduced this program to me and I love it! I am 43, which is a big gap from my boys, and I am Veryyyyy dissappppppointeddddd that this show didn't get a Favored chance! My first intro was online due to the fact that the TIME it airs I am either in service or on my way home, and dont even try to put the show on 3am in the morning either. In the Name of JESUS CHRIST, Please give this show a better chance. I see other shows on other networks who put programs on different times and days to give the show the best chance it can get. Hey, I have the faith, now you BET have to act on it (faith without works is dead!) Souls need saving and need to be fed CHRIST and what about the hard work from the people who set this program up? Please don't let this work be in vain. May the work we do speak for us, in JESUS NAME! BLESS YA
