A good friend sent this video to me yesterday and I thought “I’m postin’ it.” For one, I think it’s some good singing, but I also wanted to let y’all talk for a minute about Bishop Lester Love’s approach. Watch the video and lemme know what you think…
I say “GREAT and AMEN” for several reasons. One, the whole church got with him (y’all know these songs, so quit frontin’) AND it challenged me to relate to Christ in a way that I’m not used to thinking about Him. And I think He’s aight with that.
Thoughts???

I enjoyed it and will e-mail you another one similar to it. My problem I have with some church folks is that they bash other belivers for listening to non-gospel music and they act as if they don't watch the videos, know who Beyonce is and so on. Do you truly believe we are going to hell for listening to a song that is sincerely about love and lust?? I really like the song by Alicia Keyes. I mean what's wrong with it?? When I get married and I'm with my husband what am I suppose to listen to, a gospel song?? I don't think so! I'm listening to some Anthony Hamilton or Will Downing. :o)
EJ, nobody I know can begin a good debate like you can. LOL! It's hard to overlook the fact that a bunch of those church folks new those songs, but there were some looking a bit hesitant and they didn't get up either. Ha! Seriously, I'm not sure that church is the place where you pull out secular songs and encourage folks to sing 'em. You don't know what that conjures up for somebody who's looking to be delivered. Some things are "stumblingblocks" to those who may be weak; I think leaders have to be sensitive to that. Just my two cents.
lol, loved it! He bought it back home with Near the Cross though.
Sing on...
I love it....we need to be more intimate with worship unto God.....my belief is that if you get people to fall in Love with God...they will sin less because they don't want to let God down anymore! It's for mature saints tho...everybody can't handle it! I wanna hear Marvin Winans on that!!
..the 'Church' still 'sends' folks who 'think like that'???? by the way thats 'Nigerianese' for not deigning certain 'retrogressive mindsets'!!!!! in 2009, its a shame the question could still be considered and entertained!!...I CHOOSE TO BE FREE AND DANCING!! anything less, I NO SEND!!!! My message to all, Work out YOUR OWN SALVATION WITH/IN FEAR AND TREMBLING..bespoke not mass produced..
Wow I was shocked to see this video an actual Pastor singing that type of music. At my church we are taught not to listen to secular music because it can lead to other things and it attaches to your spirit. You can't be listeing to Rnb and then get up and do praise and worship. It's a spirtual thing. It drains your anointing from you. To say it depends on who you are singing to doesn't justify it because you still had to listen to it in order to change it around. Overall im against it because it can hinder people spiritually. Some people may disagree with me but thats okay.
You are right, Deon. The blood of Jesus is against all of Satan's wicked tricks (Halfway right and Halfway wrong) is just that.....HALF! How about a little math? How far do you get taking 1 large leap forward and 4 bunny hops backwards? Get up everybody, everywhere and do it. You will find that you stay in the same rut with no answer or true spiritual power from God. I know cause I used to be there and I am glad God delivered me. * God is not the author of confusion and he tells us where to find inspiration for appropriate praise to him.
What makes it a church song or secular? The message! Karen did it with Kiera using Jill Scott's song "He loves me", and I think Trinitee 5-7 did this using "Love", a Musiqsoulchild song. Bebe and Cece used "Up Where We Belong" and I'm sure there are countless others. The only reason people want to act up is because somewhere along the way simply knowing an R&B song became a mortal sin. I mean it's not like he was trying to tie "Let's Get it On" into a gospel song. He reminds me a bit of Jamal Bryant. If you're going to reach people you have to meet them where they are. The pastor of my church sang at a bowling alley karaoke during a church trip. He picked "How sweet it is to be loved by you", and it was all about Jesus and that's all that mattered.
EJ, I am loving the comments! I just believe that God inspires writers to write. I believe that music follows the heart of the creator. If that is true, then songs that are written about lust and whatnot will follow to the listener as songs of lust and whatnot. We need to be careful what songs we play into our spirits. If we want to give God a "love song", then we need to let Him inspire it in us. Thank God for giving Jonathan Butler "Falling in Love with Jesus". That's a love song created FOR Him, not just a wordly song twisted to fit. We need to give God our best, not something that was intended for the world and twist it to fit. That, to me, is just giving God leftovers.
Wow! I have to say that my last response was not what I intended to write. It was not what my feelings were initially! God poured the words out for me. I totally was not thinking along those lines. Glory to God! I actually, enjoyed the video! My views have been changed thanks to the intervention of the Holy Spirit.
@Author08: WELCOME to the site and thanks for YOUR comments! Good stuff to hear!
No offense to that "leftovers" analogy but I don't think God cares about all the trivial technicalities like man. What matters is that God is reaping the glory through all of it. Period. Truth be told, many of these secular love songs describe the way people can sincerely feel about Christ but the unfortunately the words aren't written like that. So I can see the inspiration there.
I don't understand why the saints turn their nose up and cast away everything as "evil" if it's not a praise & worship song. Did we forget that God created love and this is a manifestation of that? "Songs of Solomon" is more erotic than some of the most classic love songs yet this is the written word of God.
Reading some of the comments I thought I would post this: Here is the definiton of the word Secular: 1. of or pertaining to worldly things or to things that are not regarded as religious, spiritual, or sacred; temporal: secular interests. 2. not pertaining to or connected with religion (opposed to sacred ): secular music. 3. (of education, a school, etc.) concerned with nonreligious subjects. **carry on ppl**
I don't subscribe to God in the way that you folks appear to, for the first time in 40 years I felt somethng well up inside of me and I was crying and it was because I made a connection from me to the song and what you folks say you belive in(god). The Bishop simply changed the packaging , the message was always their, if your spirit is leaning in a dark direction yes you will get a negative message, sometimes it's not whats said but how you hear it, and that on your spirit. I listen to the song daily as a reminder of how communication is about touching someone in a meaning fullway, all that "God please,we worship you on and on reminds me of hopefull helpless slaves, I can't relate, I feel the feeling but I can't embrace the words, and I'm a bit affended by it, Bishop love put it were I live, made it real.
