Slept On: Men Of Standard – Surrounded

Men Of Standard has gotta be one of the greatest contemporary gospel groups, but they definitely don’t get their due, in my opinion.  They’re my modern-day Winans!

Anyway, their most recent offering, Surrounded, was an awesome album that I think some of you may have Slept On.  The project featured production from Warryn Campbell, Nisan Stewart and Gerald Haddon.  It also had some great guest spots– Kirk Franklin (“Latter Rain”) and Tye Tribbett (“Yours”).

Stand-out tracks also included “Power,” “Cover Me,” “I Need You,”… actually, the WHOLE PROJECT is a stand-out!

Here’s the title track, “Surrounded” for your listenin’ pleasure:

Did anyone else love the album like I did?  Anyone wanna come clean and admit that they were snoozin’ a little bit?  Holla at me!

Oh, and shout-out to DCov for suggesting that I cover this album. ‘Preciate ya!

I kind of slept on it, I'm not gonna lie. I heard one of their songs or so, and saw the Cd, ready to purchase but then I realized it was only ten tracks long and decided against it:(. I might check them out but short when there are multiple Cd's I want, I usually go with the one which is the cheapest and has the most tracks.

This project is actually my favorite from the group. They had some GREAT songs on here. Truth is, gospel male groups are not as popular as they were back in the day.

This Joint was cold. I did notice that it didn't get much play. "Yours" and "Latter Rain" were my favorites. It was just as good, if not better that the "Feels like Rain" album.

Oh I got it! I didn't sleep on because I love their ministry. My favorite song on the cd is "I Will."

Yes sir! Thanks for the shout out Bro. E. J.!!!!! In my opinion, this was their hottest project. I liked their previous 3. But this one brought it all around. The production + the vocals! The "Lord I'm Yours" track! The lyrics! YES!!!! I want to teach that to the Youth Choir at my church! I know it would be a different kind of song for a Sunday Morning service, but this song can minister!

I love MOS and I loved this cd. My faves were "I will" and "Surrounded". Beautiful songs! The whole CD wasn't fantastic, but their voices mesh well (as always) on every track, and Isaac's incredible runs pulled everything together. Dont' get me wrong, Lowell's powerful voice and ad libs add much flavor too.

I most definantly slept on this cd! It wasn't until recently that I just actually sat down and decided to listen to the cd the whole way through. I love it! I think that it is an awesome cd and Im mad that I've had it for so long and never really listened to it!!
