Word Has It: Clark Sisters News & Updates

Word has it that the whole Clark Sisters Live: One Last Time, wasn’t their “last time” by ANY means!

Apparently, the ladies are slated to release a CHRISTMAS album at the end of this year AND another full project in 2010, both to be released on EMI Gospel.

And, you know how I mentioned that Karen and her husband, J. Drew Sheard, have started Karew Records?  Well, the label is an imprint of EMI Gospel and the intention is that the sisters will, one-by-one, be added to the artist roster as solo artists AND have ownership of their own masters.  Plus, their son, J. Drew, is slated to be A&R rep for Karew.  Coolness!

AND, don’t forget that they’re performing “Higher Ground” (which I featured on this site last week) and “You Brought The Sunshine” on ABC’s The View this morning!!!

Shout-out to Jawn Murray for sharing ALL of that Clark Sisters info with the industry (and, Happy-Day-After-Your-Birthday, dude!).  And props to our loyal reader, Curtis, for nudging me to talk about it all.

Ok, talk to me:

(1) How do we feel about the Christmas album idea– hit or miss?

(2) Are we excited for the 2010 project, and can Donald Lawrence produce it again, please?!

(3) When/how is Dorinda gonna be added to Karew Records?  Is her GospoCentric contract gonna be up???

Thoughts???

There is a strong chance I would buy the christmas album. I can imagine hearing Karen sing "Drummer Boy"...lol D.Lawrence might produce the album again, he is a huge fan and he said during an interview that his biggest accomplishment was seeing The Clark Sister get I believe a Grammy. I don't see Dorinda signing wih Karew, I think she would start her own.

I might buy the christmas album. I can see D Lawrence producing that one. But I dont think I want to see him produce their next project. I personally want a different take on this next one. And that's not to short change D L at all. I think a Kevin Bond collaboration would be the bomb!

Well I would hope they would go in another direction as far as the production is concerned. Don't get me wrong, I love & appreciate Donald's work. But I would love to hear someone else work with them. For the Christmas album, I'd love to here what Luther "Mano" Hanes could bring to the table. Let's not forget the masterful job he did on Israel & New Breed's Christmas (most slept on) project! For the live project, I'd love to see Aaron Lindsey produce it. I believe he would do a great job with them. And keep them true to their style. These are the honest opinions of DCov! God bless!

DCov made a valid suggestion.....Aaron Lidsey would do a great job! He did well on Karen's cd. I am just waiting on the Bryon Cage album to see what Aaron has done.

A Clark Sister's Christmas. Could be one of my favorites.... I wish they'd have Tommy Sims produce a few....it would be interesting to see what would come out of that pairing.

Christmas CD should be nice!! I have the one and only christmas 'album' they done many moons ago!! lol....I'll buy whateva they put out!! lol..but Donald Lawrence literally LOVES the sisters and followed them as he grew up. Saying that to say, he really holds them to their style and I love it!! Now he aint da only good producer, but if producer don't gel and make the artists sound good u got a problem!!! So it will be intersting!!! But Donald L. can handle it as far as I'm concerned!!

Dorinda's contract with Zomba was up with the release of Take It Back. She's free to sign with Karew Records.

    1. I'm already reserving the Christmas Album...i can't wait to get it. It's gonna be on repeat throughout the season and as well as the whole year. 2. It would be great if Donald Lawrence produced their next album...i don't see why he wouldn't the last one was so great it won Grammy's and the sky is the limit to what they can have. 3. Dorinda might be on a couple of projects but i doubt she'll switch over....if it ain't broke don't fix it...she's doing great on the Zomba label.

I can't wait for the Christmas Album. The Clark Sisters individually and collectively have never let me down. I'd like to hear the Sisters do an album produced by Alex Asaph Ward & PaJam. As for Dorinda, I think she may just partner up with Karen & Karew. I think she'll do well no matter who she is signed with, so why not make more money in the process. I know the main focus is ministry but it's still a business.
