Slept On: Virtue – "Free"

This project was Virtue’s last on Verity, but it’s definitely my favorite from them.  And I think almost EVERYBODY Slept On it. :-(

I actually wrote a review for this album at NuthinButGospel.com when it came out in 2003.  I mentioned that I hadn’t been a huge fan of Virtue before, but that THIS album had me talking about them nonstop.  From the vocals, to the production and songwriting, the project is on point and I STILL play it like it just came out.

Production on this one came from PAJAM and Asaph Ward, among others.  Standout tracks for me are “Thankful,” “You’ll Win If You Try,” “Worthy,” “Lord, I Lift My Hands,” “Open Arms,” “Nothing Else I Can Do”… I could go on and on.

I couldn’t embed the full songs from this project, so I’m giving ya two 30-second clips–”Lord, I Lift My Hands” and “Thankful.”  But I reeeaaallly want you to buy this album and listen to the whole thing, cuz… my goodness.

By the way, Karima’s solo project is soon-coming and it sounds goooood. I’ma do a post about it soon.

In the meantime, FESS UP! Who Slept On it? Who has it? Do you love it? Talk to me!

Yes sir, I too was not a fan of Virtue, but this project was sweet! The slow jams were what did if for me. The also had this tune called "You just be You", man, it was a great song.

SLEPT ON! Til right this very moment. I have not always been a fan of lots of groups necessarily, but that sound is definitely lovely. Trin-i-tee 5:7 and Blessed are some others that I liked, but didn't take enought time to really listen to. SHAME ON ME!. Thanks, EJ.

Thanks for this EJ! Lately I have been riding with this CD in my car. It may sound weird, but I think one of the reasons people slept on this album was the way the songs were sequenced. The best stuff doesn't come until track 5...and a lot of people are already gone by then. My very favorite track on this CD is "There's Nothing Else I Can Do" (track 14). When I first got this project I was going through some UNBELIEVABLE challenges and this ministered to me in ways I can't describe. Good stuff.

THIS ALBUM WAS RIDICULOUS from top to bottom!! They even worked with super producer Ryan Leslie from Diddy's camp! But PAJAM & Asaph Ward vocally brought out what no other producer had done in the past!! I've always been a huge fan of Virtue!! Very underrated group! Check out my review of Karima's new single at www.dagospeltruth.com in my new issue coming this Sat.

I loved this album; it was definitely my fav Virtue album. Although I can still play out the "Get Ready" album! But yeah, my mom bought this for me the year it came out and I played it so much she just about regretted the gesture :) I really like "You Just be You"; very uplifting for me back then.

I've been listening to them since 97, and loved every CD. I still don't understand why they are not as big as MaryMary or Tri-ni-tee 5:7 etc. They are just as good "Till You Believe" one of the best on the Virtuosity! CD of 01. "Greatest Part Of Me" in 97, its been since 06 since the did the last and was wondering when their next one will be. I hope they have not broken up, I heard bout Karima's CD coming out in a month or too. Many of us want to know what's up.
