So yeeeaaahhhh… Here’s the thing: I watched episodes of Clash Of The Choirs when it first aired on NBC over a year ago, cuz… well, Patti LaBelle was on it. And all things “Patti” generally get watched. It was something entertaining that required minimal commitment from me, which is always great.
I remember watching it on NBC and thinking “oh, right… this is what the world wants from a ‘choir’… something out of the movie Sister Act, where a group of people sing popular secular songs in harmony, and with cute choreography.”
So, when I heard that Gospel Music Channel was going to begin re-airing the series last week, I was surprised that they’d be co-signing on that. Now, to be fair, a lot of the songs are INSPIRING, but so is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition… ya got that in the line-up???
My point: FINE that GMC wants to air it, cuz I’m sure someone will be encouraged and inspired, which I’m not against. And no, they didn’t have to be singing Timothy Wright’s “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus” for me to think it’s legit. But please don’t take it as a “given” that, since it’s a CHOIR competition, it must be a good fit for Gospel Music Channel programming.
If you wanted to feature a choir competition, you SHOULD’VE gotten the rights to that How Sweet The Sound documentary that just aired on BET last weekend. Cuz THAT was good.
Anyway, if you haven’t seen the show, watch this clip and lemme know your first reactions.

Ok, the singing was good but I agree that it's not exactly something that should be on the Gospel Music Channel. If something like this is on GMC, I hope they have robes or some kind of dress code (gospel channel appropriate) because the shorts those ladies were wearing were SHORT. I spent the first part of the song wondering where the rest of her clothes were.
It might be questionable for the Gospel Music Network, but I have to admit i'm excited to see "the flight of the bumble bee" and "somewhere over the rainbow" performances again! If anybody doesn't know what I'm talking about, watch the series. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Man i watched the first part of that mess last nite and had to turn the channel...they could hav put that on ABCFamily channel or betta yet DISNEY!! lol It wasnt what I expected at all man..boooo!
uhh yea this wuz the show that made me want to drive by Rockerfella Center or wherever and throw Crosses & an assortment of Gospel Choir CDs at NBC Executives coming out of the building. Bringing it to GMC would actually make me revolt and not watch if I had GMC to start with :(
This is a fake Choir competition. At least in Sister Act, they were singing about Jesus. I can't see why Gospel Music Channel would show this.
I tried watching this show when it first aired on NBC but I could't get into it. I did't see the point of the show and was nothing like i thought it was going to be.
WOW! I thought I was about to see the girl on the end drop it. I mean she had on booty shorts. Call me old fashioned but it is somethings you don't wear.
Man I saw the that programme last night, and could not watch any more of it because what jump out at me first was the way the girls were dress. Come uunn, the GMC really inspires and lifts up people, and for young men who are battling with lust don't want to be bombarding with anymore(lust)-especially from a christian music station.
What are choirs doing competing against each other in the first place? A choirs purpose is to offer praise and worship TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Never to be in competition, God doesn't look at who is best, He just looks at wheat her we are praising Him with a pure heart in JESUS name. If we are living our lives to show honer to God we do not drees the way many of the people are dressing on this worldly show. The choreography is even suggestive and ungodly. Take it off the air and show us some real praise and worship. Shame on you GMC!
