In The News: Vickie Winans Readies New Release

Vickie Winans - "How I Got Over"Vickie Winans is set to release her new album, How I Got Over, on August 4, 2009.  The 11-song project will be released on her own label, Destiny Joy, and is being described as a “mix of traditional and urban contemporary songs,” with assistance from Tye Tribbett on the track “Heyyy,” and her nephew, Tim Bowman, Jr., on the title track, which is also the project’s first single.

The song “How I Got Over” is Winans’ personal testimony– “God has been good to me,” says Winans. “I give Him all the praise. He’s stayed with me and held me up when I couldn’t hold up myself. There are so many great things happening that I just have to say that it’s because of God that I made it over.”

Not only is Vickie Winans ”the hardest working woman in gospel music,” she’s a heck of a vocalist.  I think that, cuz she’s often got her hands in so much, people don’t take her seriously as a singer.  But make no mistake– she’s no joke.

Can’t wait to hear it!  How about you guys???

What you are saying about Vickie is so true. She a great vocalist especially LIVE. I am very curious about the new album. Is this the collabo year for Tye Tribett or what?

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't really been into her last couple projects as I have her older music. I prefer the More churchy Vickie winans, not the urban contemporary Vickie winans. The last one that I really enjoyed was the one with "I hear the music in the air".....and long as I got King Jesus".

@Luda, she still have some churchy songs on her album but they are not the chosen singles for the album. She has a variety though.

I'm really looking forward to this album because my boy Marquee "Keybeetz" Walker produced alot of it!!! And, my wife and siblings are holding down BVG's on one of the tracks!! Memphis is all over this one man!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! I have every album Vickie has ever released from "Be Encouraged" to "Woman to Woman" and I can frankly say that she's one of the greatest voices in gospel music. The other day I was just thinking to myself, "I'd really like to hear another record from her, she has at least about three more in her"...and to stumble upon this wonderful news I'm just elated!

@Ryan: glad we could make your day, dude! @Tyrone: LOL @ "collabo year for Tye Tribbett" @luda: I agree-- big fan of her churchy stuff.

@ EJ, thanks again. @ Marshawn, I know! D'em high notes be doin' somethin' for me! LOL I honestly couldn't pick out a favorite Vickie album although I do like some more than others. A few standout songs from her that I really love and blast the stereo to are "You Turn Me," "We Shall Behold Him, and "First Trumpet Sound" from her debut, "Stay With Me" and "Everyday with Jesus" from her sophomore record, "Don't Throw Your Life Away," "I'm Yours," and "Somewhere" from the Lady, "Work It Out," The Only One," and "Precious Lord" from her eponymous 94' record. I really could go on and on, I just love her!!!!

Vickie started out as a Contemporary artist! And she versified herself when she added Traditional to the mix. So a true fan would love her if she sang just the ABC's in different keys!

@EJ Well I am not a "true" fan (@tre), but it looks like you should get an interview with Vickie Winans on here bro EJ. She obviously has a strong fan base hear on gospelpundit. I'll be looking for it soon:-)
