Well, well, well… I’m not one to say “I told ya so,” but… I did tell ya so.
Tony LeBron was selected as the winner of the 2009 Gospel Dream competition on Gospel Music Channel. Judges Mitchell Solarek, Michelle Williams and J Moss chose the 34 year-old singer from among thousands of hopefuls.
Unfortunately, I didn’t see the finale because I’m in Cincinnati for GMWA. I recorded it on my DVR and I’ll check it out when I get home. In the meantime, here’s what I need from you guys… I need YOU to give ME the recap this time around.
How was Tony’s performance? How were the performances from NeVar Massey and Robert Mauti? Do you think Tony deserved to win this one? Were the judges as hilarious as usual? How was the performance from last year’s winner, Melinda Watts? Did you like the song? How’d she look? GIMME ALL OF THAT!
Talk to me!

I think it was pretty clear that Tony deserved to win...I do agree with you that the Show had a rough start...However last night's finale was actually pretty good...Tony brought it home...I'm excited to see what his finished product will be...Once he gets in the studio and works with some professionals...I think we're going to be blown away by his future..He's got the goods...Now it's time to see what he does with it all! Wishing Tony all the Luck!
I met Tony at Southeastern Bible College back in 1998, and I knew then that her was destined for something great, with his wonderful voice, and love for God! Congrats Tony!
WOW..... I've never heard off this show Gospel Dream Before but if Tony LeBron is an example of what this show has to offer. I cant wait to see what next season brings. Tony Lebron is an amazing singer and that fact that he's bilingual is the icing on the cake. I have already purchased his CD off of Itunes and I can't wait to hear his next album.... Oh..... Did I mention he's kinda hot....lol Way to go Tony you rocked that final show.. And when you spoke I can tell you spoke from the heart, your truly blessed don't ever change...
that was quite a great final wow amazing performance i was impressed ...lol don't ya think so . to be honest the choice was fair i loooooooooooooooove this show can't wait for the next season wow
Ok EJ...Here's the scoop...The show was fair....Nevar I think blew us all away with his answer of being ordained by God to win..I mean who can argue with that...But..I can honestly say for me it was a tie between Nevar and Tony...Nevar's vocals were truly outstanding...a little much on the first song..but came back with How great is our God and killed it... Robert goofy, goofy, goofy, Not sure what was going on with the MJ moves on I'll take you there...But I must say on Give me Jesus..He sounded amazing and truly worshiped ... Tony was smooth, smooth, smooth...Loved That's just the way it is...relaxed and together...I surrender all was a little shaky but you can tell that he was singing from the heart.... At the end..I believe Tony won because of his consistency, passion and his cross cultural appeal... He deserves it...Much Blessings on his ministry!
never seen the show, but for some reason I trust Tamara's view the most!!
What an exhilairating ride this has been! This season of GD has had more twists and turns than a maze. How exciting that someone from Florida emerged triumphant. I had heard Tony on a local radio station in S. Florida and I'm going to be at the concert Sunday. Now that I know that he won, it will make it that much more special to see Anthony Evans and Melinda and him perform. I have to agree that I think the judges got it right this time.
My family and I watched Gospel Dreams every Wed. night after church and a loved it. I even told my mother and father about it and they watched as well. I can tell you from the very first show my mother called me about Tony and said he is the best, you watch he will win..............................................well you know what they say "Mothers know Best" . So of course, last night she called and said "I told you, he was so real and annoited". Just to let you know my mother has recently been going through some cancer issues, but the Lord is good and is healing her. I said that to say this, this show "Gospel Dreams " has been something she has looked forward to weekly and the hour it was on took her mind off of everything! We all love it and we are so excited that she was right "Tony Won". We all thought he was exceptionally talented and annoited of God!! We definately can't wait to hear more about Tony and the things he will do for the Cross. Blessings and sorry you had to miss it, but, sure you will enjoy it when you finally watch.
I watched the whole season and loved loved loved every minute of it. As for last nights show I believe Nevar has a future in music. Robert I thinks needs a little more maturity. Tony though was a definite winner from the very beginning with me and last night sealed the deal. He is so talented and I love the fact that there is a show like this for him to not only display his talent annointing also. I think he had the good's to make it all the way on any reality music TV show but with Gospel Dream it allows him to use the talent God gave him to give honor to Jesus. I am so looking forward to his first CD and hopefully many more to follow.
HANDS DOWN..... Tony LeBron IS the Gospel Dream! NeVar and Robert were extremely talented young men... but Tony posesses a quality of excellence that was just FAR superior to ANY of the other contestants. I felt watching him, that he not only has been blessed with a "gift," but he was consistent, confident and humble. Those qualities are extremely difficult to balance... as we saw in some of the others who were sent home in previous weeks. My family refuses to stop listening to his cd. My children (and my husband and I) have every song memorized. Glancing at my children in the rearview mirror and watching them worship to "God is Good" never gets old. What a blessing! All I can say is....GREAT JOB JUDGES! You made the right choice! I am anxiously awaiting, with great anticipation, Tony's next cd! I'm also anxiously awaiting the next season of Gospel Dream! Congratulations Tony LeBron! You've got some MAJOR fans in Northern California!!! God bless you!
Gospel Finale was great (ALL) three guys. However, I believe Robert was Unbelievably AWESOME!! I believe the judges missed what Robert had over the other two contestants, "The Annointing." Doesn't that count anymore, Mitchell Solarek...J. Moss? Let me just say this, When Robert Sung, "Give Me Jesus", I was on the verge of losing mind, yes, losing it. But God used him, to get to me, and millions of others I am sure. Not taking anything away from the other two contestants or winner, but I must say, the judges missed it this time around. I know the judges are all experts in his or her field, HOWEVER, they too are being judge by God and their hearts. Judges, look deeper when judging. And Robert, I felt you, I could feel the annointing coming right through the T.V. Do not change what God has given you. Keep doing what you are doing. We need this style of singing in Gospel Music. P.S. I also loved the way you sung the Staple Singer's song, "I'll Take You There." That is what I call, Gospel Funk (smile). Please, feel free to respond, anyone. Please Let Robert Mauti Know how he saved my life. It is important that he know how he is affecting people's lives, for real! God Bless.
I think Tony Lebron is an amazing singer. They got it right when they picked him. He truly is the total package. Talent, personallity, and heart. Looking forward to see what God has in store for him... God Bless
They all are amazing singers. I agree Tony has talent, personality, and heart. However, Robert Mauti had the annointing all around him when he sung "Give Me Jesus." The annointing is what moves people to change their hearts and the hearts of those around them. Singing gospel with the annointing is a powerful phenomenon. I respect your comments.
I am week late but I finally watched the show...... MELINDA did awesome(WOW). Tony did a good job, I preferred Robert to win.
wow guys! great responses... thanks for giving me some recaps. anyone else wanna weigh-in? oh, and @beth: thank you so much for sharing that testimony about your mother... how encouraging and exciting!
Very Proud of Tony! Congratulations!
First of all I love the Gospel Dream, my only beef is I thought that last years Gospel Dream was the best! All of the singers were good, the way they did it this year was, my opinion, was a little boring. Last year I could not wait until Sunday for it to come on. The name of the show was Gospel Dream, some songs was not a gospel song, which is ok but...., 2nd, the MC, the back end Host Kimberly Locke was a bit boring, bring back Matthew West, Martha Manuzzi, and the other host from last year, they made the show exciting. The boot camp was good, but the vocal trainers was not bring back Pajam...., It is a same that the last year winner came and blew the show up! Melinda Watts is the best!!!!!!, her entire album is awesome! Sorry for the long writing, but that is my opinion on this years Gospel Dream, I hope season 5 will be the same as season 3!
