I think folks kinda Slept On this album and I’m humbly urging you to reconsider.
The McClurkin Project released We Praise You, their sophomore album, in 2006. The family group included Donnie McClurkin and his sisters Tanya McClurkin, Cheri McClurkin, Andrea Mellini, and the late, never EVER to be forgotten, Olivia McClurkin. Long-time family friend Carol Carter is also a member of the group.
Their sound was incredibly reminiscent of the Hawkins family– that tight-knit sound with rich background vocals and memorable leads. I love just about every track on this album, with my faves being “We Praise You,” written and led by Andrea Mellini, “I Am Your Servant Lord,” “If You’re Ever Feeling Lonely,” and ”Precious Lord,” led by Olivia McClurkin.
And who can deny the incredible imagery and power in the instant classic “As Long As There’s You” led by Andrea, Olivia and Donnie?! Listen to a snippet of that here:
Also, watch this video clip of Andrea leading the album’s single, “We Praise You,” at the live recording:
Who has the album? Who decided to pass on it? Why? Talk to me!

I have the project. Although I liked it, I can understand why people passed on it. People draw to personalities, and other than Donnie, there wasnt like that standout personality or voice in the group. With that being said, I used to play "As Long As There's You" like every day. That song is beautiful. Donnie still does it in his live performances & it just takes me in every time! My other favorite on the project was the "Song of Gratitude"....wow, beatiful song! I also liked we praise you, the "O's" at the end were always kind of weird to me though, lol.
I have the album and i was very disappointed. We praise you was the best song on the album and the others sons were ????? I can't remember. The family can sing but I have been disappointed with the McClurkin album and Donnie's album production. I going to keep it 100, I think Donnie, Yolanda, and Cece has reached a status were their albums will sell regardless because of the name, but they a slipping. CeCe album was so horrible I almost threw it out the window. Maybe it's me....
I know this is a lil off subject...but did anyone hear about how Donnie was doing?, he was slated to speak during one of the COGIC Aim convention services last week but it was told he passed out during service and was rushed to the hospital but i never heard anything else about how he was doing??? also i have to agree with Tyrone comment about Yolanda, CeCe and Donnie, it is at a point where they can put out just about anything and it will sell b/c of the name... and they are artist not just popular in gospel but just as popular in the CCM crowd
@Tyrone Just give CeCe's album to someone else, don't throw it out the window, lol. Not always true, but I've noticed in some cases the artist starts taking more control over their projects (writing, production),and that's not always the best idea. They also stop using the same producers that they used to get them where they are...... A lot of times it comes down to money. The more the artists write, more royalties they get.....but if the songs arent good, who's gonna want the project. Also, the producers that they started out with start charging more money, so they end up using someone younger, and cheaper to produce or m.d.....which in some cases changes their sound. (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse). That's why I can respect artists like Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin or a D. Lawrence...true artists..he's used Kevin Bond, Cedric Thompson, Daniel Weatherspoon, but the quality has always been consistent. Some artist's change producers or writers, and there sound is just totally different. Wow, i just wrote way too much, lol
@Chad: Donnie was apparently not feeling well, but he is not presently in the hospital. To the extent that he was not well a week or so ago, he is doing well now.
Oh Ok Thanks EJ, your always on top of things bro 'preciate it
I think to a certain degree, when you introduce the families of any big name, it's hard because people only think of the heavy-hitter. Example: Solange Knowles put out a CD last year, but it hasn't really caused much of a stir because everybody is so Beyonce-crazy. So coming behind a sibling/family member that already has a big name is hard in terms of quality (or what people perceive to be quality) and sales. I, too, own the album, and it's different. I think the problem is that people were looking for the McClurkin album to sound and look like a Donnie album, but you have to look at them out of the context of Donnie McClurkin, so to speak. Of course, I love "We Praise You" and absolutely ADORE "As Long As There's You." I also enjoyed "Song Of Gratitude" and "You Are An Awesome God."
I like the single we praise you. I may have to pick this project up.
I actually liked this album better than their first.
