Buggin' Me: Gospel Music Channel's Programming

First, lemme say that Gospel Music Channel may be my favorite network on television, so what I’m about to say comes from a very heartfelt and loving place…

Ummm…. what’s going on with the programming, guys?

I get that the economy is rough, so the ability to create, develop and implement new shows is waning, but Sister Sister re-runs every weeknight?  Back-to-back episodes of Dr. Quinn Medicine WomanFree Willy 2?!

According to GMC’s website, their mission is “to inspire, uplift and entertain through music.”  Their vision– “to be the world’s most watched music television brand for the entire family.  It says that it’s “the first 24-hour, all music entertainment network devoted to the uplifting, inspiring and diverse music that is Gospel.”

But lately, there’s not been much music programming.  Again, I know that the economy is such that it’s costly and difficult to launch new stuff right now (BET’s 106 & Gospel taught us that), but I don’t think that the default should be to simply broadcast anything G-rated.

Still a supporter of the network, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t buggin’ me a little…

EJ! You hit this one right on the head! I have loved GMC ever since '06 and now that they are adding all of these other shows and movies, your sentiments have been mine. They need to go back to the way it was when they had different types of genres of gospel music for every day of the week. It seems like the network is taking on the same approach like other music channels (BET J, BET, MTV, etc.)....

Rex Jr. and Charlie have to make a profit and they are relying on old television shows and movies. This reminds me of a radio station here in L.A. who had to abandon its local programming to get Steve Harvey back in the market. Unfortunately, GMC is not the only one because the Viacom sponsored channels have movies and ridiculous head cases masquading as reality shows.

They should try a gospel version of CMT's Singing Bee

You took the thought out of my head. Came home tonight, wanted to zone out to some music, turned to GMC. What was on? Some old show called 'Doc'. Huh? I liked the channel better when it was primarily music programming. Maybe they'll read your post and catch the vision?

I agree 100% . When I first seen Sister Sister, I said what in the world does this have to do with gospel music. Absolutly nothing. GMC is reminding me of BET right now. Showing old re runs back to back to back to back lol.

EJ you must be reading my mind. I thought I had landed on the wrong channel the other day when I saw Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman on there, but then it kept happening. What in the world??? I'm like this is just ridiculous. They need to change the name of the station to "Some movies, old sitcoms and 3 videos. Come on Gospel Music Channel. Fix the problem please. Go back to the music format like before.

I agree! I got to this page by doing a web search for "What's going on with the Gospel Music Channel?" I used to love watching all of the video shows, but you hardly ever see any now.
