Check 'Em Out: Algernon

Ladies and gents, meet Algernon.  He’s an awesome vocalist with a heart for worship and I want you to check him out.

Algernon

If you recall from one of my GMWA recaps, Algernon performed at one of the nightly musicals during GMWA’s convention.  The Lord used him to change the entire atmosphere from “showcase” to “worship setting.”  I’ve posted a video of that performance (thank God for YouTube) below, for your enjoyment.

Algernon has worked with a variety of artists, including Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell and Stevie Wonder.  The Atlanta-based artist has also toured internationally, singing his own music in various venues in England.  Algernon’s self-titled debut project is due on October 20th.

In addition to the video below, I’ve added his single, “You Belong To Me,” to the PunditPlayer.  Click here to take a listen.

You can learn more about Algernon at MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/theofficialpageofalgernon) and you can follow him on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/sirAlgernon.  AND, make sure you lemme know what you think!

Algernon is good. I love the single "You Belong to Me" and I really enjoyed the video that you posted. I love how he used "I Need Thee", "Precious Jesus" and "More Than Anything" to form a medley. It was awesome.

Although I'm not a fan of him vocally, I do believe Algernon brings something different to the marketplace. He has a clear level of sincerity that I admire, even if the texture and tone of his voice don't personally appeal to me. In gospel we sometimes overlook a crack or two, in secular you get blased over it. I think that the new wave of singers is really bringing that on, where you'll see people (men especially) who can't go forth like Tonex, Rance Allen, or Issac Caree, but still do their own thing.

I believe the brotha clearly presented his offering of praise with sincerity and conviction. Now, whoever was holding the camera could have invested in a tripod.

@Ed I think you are talking about "More Than Anything" and that is by Lamar Campbell and Spirit of Praise.... This young man is a true worshipper! Not alot of riffs and runs; a good thing!! It seems as though many are trying 2 out riff and run each other nowadays...im not knocking it, but i'll take some simple but yet ANOINTED vocals anyday!!

I can understand how some folks would def not be a fan of him vocally ( maybe this just wasnt the best repersentation of his skill set) . BUT u cant deny his passion. Seems like he should try a more contemp or rock sound tho , to fit his raw-ish vocals .

This is a local talent. We do have gospel artists here in the Los Angeles area. Mary Mary, Prez are examples of talent that comes from an area which does not have a 24-hour gospel station, yet they do come out of the woodwork to be noticed. The kid can "sang" and sing well and is a worshipper and hopefully he will have success in this industry.
