Guess what I noticed on the Billboard chart for top GOSPEL song? Whitney Houston’s newest single, “I Look To You,” is #26 this week, up from #30, where it debuted last week. On the GOSPEL song chart, I say.
Anyone remember a few years back, when Kanye West released a song called “Jesus Walks” and it was nominated for a Stellar Award before being yanked from the nominees? Oh, the UPROAR that came from the gospel community!!!
Personally, I always say that the gospel music industry doesn’t have a monopoly on Christ or music about Him. Whitney recorded a song that is at least inspirational (and, actually, may have a lil’ more Jesus Juice on it than most songs from gospel artists lately).
Whitney’s newest project is the highest-selling album in the music industry right now and I have to assume that “I Look To You” is only gonna gain more airplay…
My question– could Whitney Houston top the charts for gospel radio airplay for “I Look To You”? Could it be nominated for a Stellar Award? If those things come to pass, how would you feel about it?

Of course she will I loooove this song so inspirational! She's a gospel singer first there's no judgment when it comes to singing about God! Kudos to Whitney!
They've been playing this song a LOT on gospel radio here. I personally would not be mad at all. Whitney has a testimony and she is making it CLEAR that it was the Lord who helped her get through this. I would love it!
I would not have a problem with this- Whitney has said publicly and you will hear her say loud and proud on Oprah show next Monday and Tuesday on 9/14 and 9/15 and in Ebony Oct issue that she thanks God for never letter her go, for chastening her heart and for saving her. There is no testimony without a test and you will soon hear her testimony. I LOVE that song- that speaks to me on so many levels. Love her!
wow..can hardly wait to hear testimony...God bless her in all she does..
You know how I feel--I want you to get the interview! LOL I agree that gospel artist don't own the sole rights to record "gospel" music. Artist make music, period. If consumers appreciate the music they buy it. If enough people buy it then it does well. That's how business works, and if anyone thinks artist aren't business people then they don't know music or business. If Whitney tops the charts then she did her job as an artist and a business person by marketing her product to the right group of consumers. Those that wish to top the charts some day may want to take notes.
Everyone likes a success story and I'm sure most folk want to see Whitney do well. I don't think a Stellar Award nomination will cause as much noise as Kanye. Tonex even said on twitter that this is one of the most anointed songs out
EJ, could? Whitney will top the charts. This woman's name is huge and her fan base is crazy. I wouldn't be surprise if she is nominated for a stellar. Whitney loves traditional gospel. I remember one year she was praise him in the aisle when Shirley Caesar was performing...LOL.
I have absolutely no problem with it. Whitney was born & raised in the church. Her soundtrack, "The Preachers Wife", holds the record for the biggest selling gospel album ever sold. Anybody that's ever followed Whitney knows she has always credited Christ. Even with the promotion of this new album, she gives God all the glory for bringing her out of the storm. Like someone else mentioned -- watch Whitney's 2-day interview on Oprah starting this Monday and Tuesday! Oprah declares it her best interview yet.
l love Whitney...This new album is helping me live again...She's pointed me to Christ...Whitney is BACK!
