The latest installment in the Gotta Have Gospel series hit stores yesterday. It’s a two-disc compilation album with some of the hottest singles we’ve heard in the past year or so.
You may wanna check it out, even if you already own most of the songs on it– it features new music videos from Mary Mary and Donnie McClurkin.

Hello there. I'm kinda confused. Why do the producers of the Gotta Have Gospel compilation insist on including songs released 9 years prior to the CD? 'Great is your mercy' by Donnie? 'Shabach' by Byron Cage? 'Afraid' by J Moss? C'mon. EJ, or anyone else, could you please explain why this happens. I've seen this in all their previous releases as well. Thanks
@Zoy: A lot of times, a record label will create a compilation album with songs that it owns in its own catalogue (less money to split with other labels). So, generally, they're gonna reach into their own collection of songs. At the same time, most compilation albums are NOT really for gospel music fans. We'll buy the individual albums of each artist. Compilation albums are PERFECT, however, for people who do not typically buy gospel albums, but like gospel MUSIC. Think of someone who may not go to church weekly, but likes to get a little "Jesus" every now and then. They're looking for a collection of their favorite gospel songs on one album for one low price. And, often, the easiest way to package a product like that is to include new stuff, but also some older songs that people probably wanted to own but never got around to buying. Does that help at all?
Thanks for your thoughts on this, EJ. I wondered about the selection process as well.
Oh, I see. Thanks, EJ ;)
