In The News: Performers Announced For 25th Stellar Awards
by EJ on Nov.25, 2009 at 12:23 pm, under Music
The list of artists who will perform at the 25th Annual Stellar Awards has been released:
Mary Mary
Byron Cage
Dottie Peoples
Hezekiah Walker
Shirley Caesar
Ricky Dillard & New G
Tramaine Hawkins
Richard Smallwood
Crystal Aikin
Smokie Norful
Vanessa Bell Armstrong
Edwin Hawkins
BeBe & CeCe Winans
Jonathan Slocumb
Israel Houghton
James Fortune
Walter Hawkins
For some reason, the list doesn’t mention Donald Lawrence, but it was announced elsewhere that he will be performing with the Atlanta West Pentecostal Church Choir (winner of this year’s How Sweet The Sound competition).
Should be interesting performances– glad to see some new folks on the show, like James Fortune and Crystal Aikin, as well as some faves that don’t always perform, like Tramaine Hawkins and Hezekiah Walker.
At the fear of sounding redundant, I would love to see Kierra Sheard SOMEWHERE on SOMEBODY’S show… she’s nominated for several awards, including ARTIST OF THE YEAR, for cryin’ out loud. She can’t get a performance slot?!
As an aside– it’s interesting that, despite the fact that so many indie artists proudly let us know that they “took the ballot by storm” this year, not one of them was given a performance opportunity…
What do you guys think of the line-up?

Interesting that the performance list is more reflective of the past year in Gospel than the nominees list. So bizarre!

they should have Karen on the performance line up!!
November 25th, 2009 on 12:36 pm
Looking forward to BeBe & CeCe, VBA, and Richard Smallwood.
November 25th, 2009 on 12:49 pm
is Richard Smallwood coming out with a new project?
November 25th, 2009 on 12:52 pm
I must say I really like the line up and looking forward to being there ! I hope that Bishop Hez is singing Sold Out though…..but i do like the line, Traditional, Contemp, Choir…..I love it this year..its 25 years everything should be done with even more excitement and edge !

Two “Hawkins”! It’s going to be smokin’. I think the 3 hosts relinquished their opportunity to perform to give others a chance. Detroit is still in the house (Winans & Armstrong). Lord knows what’s going to happen when Pastor Shirley “Hole My Mule” Ceasar gets the mike. Chuuuuccchhhh! and oh, comedy too. Slocumb’s in the house.

CAN WE AT LEAST GET ONE CLARK???? MOSS????
November 25th, 2009 on 2:07 pm
I think by now, Everyone knows I am the BIGGEST Clark/Moss fan! & Even though they are THE GREATEST SINGERS IN GOSPEL MUSIC & Some of the GREATEST PERFORMERS/MINISTERS in GOSPEL MUSIC, They rarely perform @ these Big Shows. And the sad thing about that is they always KILL IT when they do. Maybe they just forgot to mention them like they did Donald Lawrence? Other than that, the line-up looks pretty good,
but EJ, maybe you can get a word to someone and ask if all Performers can use live music?!
This is the BIGGEST GOSPEL MUSIC EVENT of the YEAR & Yet MANY Performers perform to Trax. I’m not asking for all the props & Gimmicks from the Grammys, AMAs, etc, but this being Gospel Music which is known for their AMAZING BANDS. I’d love 2 c more LIVE MUSIC! thanks, Love…

ya’ll care to much about the people who cares if they dont get on the awards show..
Chill out. stop idolizing folk, yall care more about the folk singing then yall do Jesus.
November 25th, 2009 on 3:16 pm
@ SimplyIPhone Please stop bein so DEEP! Thank You.
EJ asked for our thoughts & We are giving them. People really get on my nerves trying 2 always throw God @ people when we give our opinions. There is a difference between being a FAN & IDOLIZING someone. & You have no authority to judge nor determine how much we care about these people or Jesus. I don’t think anyone implied that they care more about these people more than Jesus. Your comments were not contructive and could have been kept to yourself.
furthermore we have a right to be fans of these amazing artists just w/o being criticized for it. If people can go crazy over their favorite secular artists, we can certainly show our love for these Amazing, Annointed Gospel Artists.
Thank U & God Bless

I think that the lineup is ok, and Kierra keeps getting pushed to the side, that’s kinda sad. But to me, she seems sincere when she appreciates the love she has been given. She will have her time, if she keeps close to God, He will reward her very openly. It is very evident that she has a lot of fans! Funny how the Clark/Moss/Sheard fam has grown so much, but I love each of them for their gifts exclusively! Yes!

It would have been nice to have Mel Holder on the lineup. If you do not know about Mel Holder, he plays Gospel saxophone.
November 26th, 2009 on 11:37 am
They should have had Fred Hammond and John P. Kee! It’s a cool line-up, but why Richard Smallwood? He doesnt have anything new out. Maybe he is doing a dedication to someone.
November 26th, 2009 on 10:15 pm
it is funny to me that kierra performed on the DOVE awards this year, but NOT the stellars yet. i think the only reason karen performed this year is because she was featured on donnie’s song…but they were both hosting, so hosting doesnt necessarily disqualify you from performing.
i do agree with the comment made about how the performers reflect this past year of gospel music better than the nominees…interesting.
it really is a pretty good lineup though. im looking forward to it!!!
November 27th, 2009 on 7:10 pm
I’m looking forward to Israel Houghton! That’s my dude right there! Also Ricky Dillard im lookin forward to.
November 29th, 2009 on 8:38 am
I’m looking forward to a spirit-filled show, but I agree with Ahmad… Where is J Moss? And one of my favorite artists today is Brian Courtney Wilson with Just Love and All I Need- I would love to see him nominated if not win Stellar!
November 30th, 2009 on 10:48 am

November 30th, 2009 on 10:52 am

December 1st, 2009 on 9:55 am
^^umm ok..LOL
December 5th, 2009 on 5:45 pm
They should have ( New Artist) CoCo McMillan on the line up.
December 9th, 2009 on 7:40 am
I love the line up but I wish at least one of my Clark sisters were in there somewhere?
January 10th, 2010 on 1:18 pm
I am sooooo thrilled to see Crystal Aikin on the line up she is a new artist and is a awesome singer. I just love her vocal ability. She going to the top fast.
