In The News: Da’ T.R.U.T.H. Takes Sabbatical For Moral Indiscretion

I really don’t like doing these types of posts, and you guys know that I never post anything for the sake of gossip or rumor mills.  As always, I’m bringing this to you so that you can be aware and so that you can do ONE thing Electric Teapots in response– PRAY.

On November 2, 2009, gospel hip-hop artist Da’ T.R.U.T.H. posted a public apology on the homepage of his official website (full statement at http://www.datruth.net/).  In the written apology, he indicates that, “in light of a moral indiscretion in [his] personal life, [he] will be taking a sabbatical from music ministry and teaching.”

He further states: “I have repented first to God and then to my wife and family.  It is my prayer that my family, supporters and the brethren in Christ will collectively be able to forgive me.”  He asks that, in the days ahead, he and his family’s privacy be respected as they take the appropriate steps necessary to heal and regroup together as a unit.

Done and done.

The details of this situation are not relevant for me, and I pray that none of us begin to microscopically scrutinize his life for the sake of appeasing our own lust for dirt.  God’s grace is more than sufficient for Da’ T.R.U.T.H’s situation, as it is for each one of my own.  Let’s do what Christ calls us to do in this case– let’s love on him.

Who will join me in prayer for our brother?

  • Odi

EJ again I am so elated to see THE GOSPEL personified in you, your words, and response to this situation concerning our brother Da’ TRUTH.

I will be joining you in prayer for healing and restoration in his family and circle. Also praying that He experiences the security we have in the Love of Christ, and the hope we have in the Grace of God moving forward. Amen.

Done. Thanks for the info EJ.

  • heartfelt

My heart is honestly sad..I admit at first I was angry because of his following and how many youth look up to him..but he’s covered by God and it could be anyone of us..at least he didn’t lie about it like another artist did recently on EEW. TRUTH is a man of God and I’m praying that his wife and family are restored!! Thanks EJ.for being real with us and compassionate at the same time..

  • Musiq

I don’t have much to say on this. Kinda stunned right now…. Pray saints and take heed lest ye fall. Thanks EJ for being real sensitive in your blog concerning this issue.

  • maranatha

Wow, that’s for-real stuff. I appreciate him as an artist and a human, and I love that he stood up and acknowledged his situation, whatever it may be, so many would have acted like it didnt happen and kept it moving. Thanks EJ for posting that. There but by the grace of God go I. He and his family are certainly in my prayers.

  • AkeraD

I will definitely be praying for him and his family. Thank God for grace and mercy!

  • danthaman82

I have my brother lifted. He’s repented and he’s taking the proper steps to be fully restored. What more can we ask?

  • Millie

Love my brotha! Appreciate him coming out with the letter and taking action….we could learn from this in the body.

  • Teshyah

The love of Christ goes beyond any measure! God will heal him and his family.

    Still love him tonz xxx

    My prayers r wit em

  • Mike “The Messenger” Stankovic

Temptation wins again….first Ambassador, now Da’ Truth. Ultimately, the Kingdom of Jesus takes a big blow. This is a big message to all of us to put on the full armor of Jesus, read, follow, and live the Ten Commandments. Be Holy as Jesus is Holy. Satan goes around like a roaring lion seeking who he may take out. He is after all believers, especially the ones who are invading his territory, as Cross Movement, Ambassador and Da’ Truth have done now for many years. Absolutely, pray for the situation and for restoration for the family and for Da’ Truth. Be on guard….avoid any appearances of evil…listen to The Holy Spirit and follow His leading.

  • Eric Stancil

    EJ,

Great words of encouragement and wisdom! He who is without sin let him cast the first stone. We all have “fallen” in one way or another, my fall may not be your fall and your fall may not be mine. I thank God everyday for his Grace and Mercy cause to tell you “Da’ Truth” often times it’s not that some of us aren’t “falling” it’s that we aren’t getting caught!

  • Brian Courtney Wilson

I will join you in prayer

  • Glenda

Wow. My husband will definitely be hurt when he reads this, as I am. No idea what he was faced with, but we all have fallen. I really love this young man’s witness and the Gospel is so rich and full in him. I pray his strength along with his wife’s and family. Blessings on you, Emmanuel. Take courage, for Jesus has already reconciled us to the Father, and now has given us the ministry of reconciliation. ~SELAH~

  • Laquita

Just love him, will pray that he accepts the love and God & forgives himself

  • Novella

I had the pleasure of seeing this young brother’s ministry in New York, and he blessed my soul. Brothers and Sisters, we are living in the last days, and satan knows he has but a short time and he’s playing for keeps. The enemy of our souls is doing his best to take out all the watchman on the wall that is sounding the alarm and blowing the trumphet in zion. Take note, he isn’t bothering those who are just tingling cymbals and sounding brass. These are serious times, and we need to encourage and lift up our brothers and sisters in prayer in this industry because the enemy is taking no prisoners.

Da’T.R.U.T.H, you are in my prayers brother!

  • Joe Jones

I pray that God will allow this brother to get back to the place where he once was and go to higher heights and deeper depths in HIM

  • Anthony

Just remember if your brother is overtaken in a fault ye which are spiritual restore such a one with a spirit fo weakness considering yourself lest ye also be tempted. And also let the one who is without sin cast the first stone. He is God’s anointed touch him not.

  • witness5324

Hey, I’m down for praying for this brother. It saddens my heart that whatever it is has occurred but I also know God to be a God of redemption personally. I am expecting God to continue to work through this vessel and am truly excited about God doing a new work within him.

  • J. E. Trueluck

Although this deeply saddens my heart, as a man of God and his brother in Christ, the right and Godly thing is to do is pray. The word tells us that we ALL fall short of the glory of God. God is a healer, a redeemer, a savior, a lover, and the list goes on. So, God help us all to pray for one another and encourage one another in the faith as we all press towards to being holy and acceptable in God’s sight. We love YOU LORD and we thank YOU for YOUR love, grace, and mercy. Truth, if you have a chance to read this man, I love you and I will continue to pray that God will help you and your family get through this situation. Be encouraged and keep your head up. “I like the fact that Christ redeemed us whole, heart, mind, body, and soul.”-THE BIG PICTURE. Thanks for allowing God to use you.

  • raych

Prayin 4 u my brother. Sometimes it takes for us to stumble and fall in an area in order to push higher into another level in Christ. With true repentance comes a greater zeal to please God and never look back. Continue to press towards that mark of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus, keep it movin…Peace and Blessings to you and fam

  • brooklyn1972

Ej…I appreciate how you presented this situation. I will also be praying for Da ‘Truth and his family. He is annointed and at the end of the day God will get the glory.

  • chris

I really encourage everybody to read Torrence’s Take On Da T.R.U.T.H. “Situation. I think he makes some valid points. I definitely will be praying for da truth and other artists who have slipped up. But just like Torrance says in his post some of this stuff is getting ridiculous.

  • Ken

We all fall sometimes and God is so merciful. I have so much respect for this man and am praying for him, his familly and his ministry.

  • luvgoodsangin

    We will pray and forgive.

  • deon

I think this is what happens when we look up to people instead of looking up to God. Men will always let you down no matte r what because we aren’t perfect. But instead of paying attention to God we are obessed with artists life styles,I’m sure we will be hearing about other artists over time. Also I think we shouldnt turn these people into our God’s but remember who our God is. With that said I will not be so intrested in their personal life because who really know what goes on behind closed doors? Only God. I will continue to pray for him and all these other gospel artists.

  • Mike “The Messenger” Stankovic

    Amen and Amen,Deon!!!!!

  • Gilbert Gary

I will be praying for him that the LORD will give him the grace to sustain him through this time for everything he is dealing with. Please come back to us soon.

  • Ms777

WOW!!!! I have read many of your comments some valid and some stupid. Yes I said stupid. We who are angry have a right to be. We are human, opinionated. We must be careful not to express that ignorantly. I would like to clarify this 1 thing. This act of infidelity did not transpire while in counsel. Shante was not taken advantage of she operated and sorrowfully may continue to operate under the spirit of Jezebel. This does not excuse her the pivotal individual in this entire dilemma. So while I’m angry with both Tye & Manny I am also just as if not more angry with her.

The way the Spirit of Jezebel operates is it seeks to control by way of seduction and manipulation. She gains the confidence of our leaders and does what is necessary to get close to them. She was raised in an atmosphere where sex was a path to influence. So it is often utilized, again, to control. Shes extremely persistent and her goal is to tear down and or alter or make suspicious the true prophetic messengers who bear the message of Jesus. Jezebel is a celestial power that has worldwide influence hence not just these 2 ministers have fallen victim to her sly tactics but the many many leaders who have and continue to fall victim to her tactics. She’s not just a demon that can be cast out but a spirit that literally takes up residence and controls us.

The fact that it happened is very wrong. Not because we think so but because God says so. What would you know about being restored if you never lost your place? (this is good) The only perfect man that has ever walked the earth was Christ and this along with many other things is the reason He came.

While yes we look up to these people and yes we respect them we also must be careful that we hold them in there respective places. Tear down the altars and pedestals you have placed them on and see them for who they are……. human. Seeing them for being human does not justify the act but explains why. He who is without sin throw the rock first. Galatians 6 addresses the stand we should take concerning situations like this. We are spiritual beings experiencing human things and we must learn how to deal with things like this spiritually as well as the way we’d want to be dealt with if it were us.

Am I angry? Does it hurt? YES. Is the message they have proclaimed concerning what they themselves have fallen into false? Not @ all!!!! Holiness is still right an possible. God loved Emmanuel enough to expose and openly chastise him. Prayerfully he considers it to be God’s love and not his wrath. Tye on the other hand is another breed. The initial step to salvation or recovery of any sort is first being honest with yourself and then others. If you can’t acknowledge your sin as sin then you don’t have a desire to be free from it. It’s time out for us as believers to stop participating in the Stained Glass Masquerade. We feel the need to pretend as if we don’t have issues for the sake of being accepted by others or even judged. Take off the mask and be who you are because your honesty may help me. We overcome by the blood of the lamb and the words of our testimonies.

Many will fall as a result of this but many, artist especially, along with myself have used this incident to challenge them to evaluate and alter their lifestyles. Which is what it should do. Who knows the next example may be you!!!!

    We all fall
but the lesson is not in the fall @ all

    We all fail
but it’s not to our demise but our prevail

He makes us weak to prove he’s strong
To teach whats right we do whats wrong

It scars our hearts and hurts our pride
Sometimes we feel we wanna die.

To show us peace he sends a storm
To teach us to trust Him he gets us alone.

The lessons not in the fall
It’s in the gettin back up and giving Him more of your All.

    Yes there’s more accountability,
    More responsibility
But if you weren’t capable He wouldnt”ve chosen you @ all.

It’s not easy but it’s possible for you to recover all.
You’d never know you could get back up
If you never fell @ all.

Lets concentrate more on restoration and not desecration. Instead of tearing the kingdom down and focusing on the bad things that are transpiring let us focus on what we can do to build it up.

    Casting Crowns said
” if we are the body why aren’t his arms reaching? Why aren’t his hands healing? Why aren’t his words teaching? and if we are the body why aren’t his feet going? Why is his love not showing them there is a way ? and Jesus is the way

  • Ms777

just so you know when i say stupid I am not refferring to the comments on this wall but i have read many comments on other walls and websites and they are definitely full of ignorance. This is actually probably one of the few sights i have been to that has responded as christians ought.

  • Kiesha

What does Tye & his wife have to do with DA Truth? I think you are looking for that other Tye post on the site concerning that.

  • Gayle

I’m very saddened that our brother fell. Yes, we should pray for him as other gospel artists and I’m glad he is stepping out of public ministry for a while to deal with whatever he is dealing with and have people he will be accountable to. It takes a lot of courage to step away from a while, but you know, Da’ TRUTH is doing the right thing.

I just wish others step away from the ministry too and get some counseling and restoration help as well instead of appearing in the public eye without any repentance at all.

  • Ms777

I agree Gayle wholeheartedly. Kiesha I am right where I need to be no mistake made.

  • bro.pete gantt

I admire Da Truth for his honesty that really lets me know that he’s a man of God, because some people try to hide things like they never happened but God see’s all and knows all. I pray that God has mercy on him as well as the brothers and sisters in christ. brother your in all my prayers .

  • Adarius

No doubt i will be sending up prayer for my brother that he can be restored and strengthend up. Da truth is probably one of the most down to earth folks i have spole to him a few time via myspace an he has always been great in response as bein a help… But if he never spoke to me at all he is still a brother in need i prey that the Lord touch you an your family an heal like only he can do.

  • Big Choc

As a fellow musician in my church in Columbus, GA, wow is all i can say but, I will be in prayer for all parties involved. My heart is hurt by this because i have seen Tye up close and heard him speak and sing and this brother is the real deal!!! he is on fire for Christ. as for The Truth i have not had the opportunity to see him in concert but i did see him on BET during an interview with the Coco Brother and have seen some of his Videos he seems to be genuine too. this incident happens in a alot of churches and it should not.
But we see how the Enemy is really attacking the MUSIC ministries everywhere. Lets be prayerful for all of the music ministries and musicians in all of the churches in every church all over the world. We’ve got to come together and continue to put the Enemy under our feet. Stand up MUSICIANS, Let’s look out for each other, Time out for the HATE man we’ve got work to do!!! These brothers and sisters who messed up need us, we know the temptations and the life of a musician in the church, it can be downright Grimey and you know what i mean………. all i am saying is let’s be there for these artists. The World has a standard and we know that is to tear down and not to build up. We have to be above the nonsense, Let’s build them back up and learn from this so we can continue to go higher. this for me too…. I’m putting myself in check too!!! I Love everyone,
    L Hardy, Columbus GA

As a former christian and one who use to listen to (at times I still listen) what is called gospel hip hop, I am not taken back by the recent situations that have occurred. The problem that i have from my own point of view is that sometimes it seems a bit hypocritical. The reason I say such is because when u listen to the music it is a constant burage of what seems to be a person saying I’m holy I do no wrong and for those that do you are evil. That can be a turn off to people. I know b/c I deal and have dealt with people like this. They berate you b/c you aren’t doing quote on quote what they believe but you sit back and watch their actions and they are no better than you.

  • Mike the Messenger

LVS…..You know that Jesus says there is NO ONE righteous,NO NOT ONE….we are ALL like filthy rags…. In Colossians 2:6:13,14…When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature , God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us ALL our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations that was against us and that stood opposed to us,He took it away nailing it to the cross. By the way, Jesus is calling you back to Himself…if He wasn’t you would not of even bothered to comment on this page.

  • LVS

    Mike

I don’t want to turn this into an argument I will make my statement and leave it at that. Yes I know there is none that is free from doing wrong I don’t need scripture to see that. My point is that listening to the music the message I hear doesn’t equate to loving those that aren’t like you. I mostly hear we don’t do this or do that to me it seems a bit like bragging in it’s own right. It can seem condemning to those of us who are not apart of the pack. I could expound more but I’m not on here to argue.

As far as me coming on here how do you know what reason I’m on here? I heard the story on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show this morning and wanted to see if the story was true. The reason I’m posting is so that christians can see what one thinks who is outside of the spectrum of christianity, and how it effects us.

If you would like to further discuss matters i’m willing to do so but not here on this forum. You can contact me via e-mail.

i think that he is a FAKE and needs to tell the truth you call yourself the D.A TRUTH but all your tell ing is lies i hope amd pray god has mercy on your soul . tell the reason why u really want to go back even though you didnt tell the truth god knows all you inner thoughts and you know what were talking about .

  • Braden McCune-Streit

It’s true that God know the inner parts of our heart. You, on the other hand, do not. So for you to make a judgment call on whether his apology and repentance is sincere is completely out of place, and certainly not in a loving fashion. He has come out in the open with his transgression, and has asked for forgiveness from God and his family. Now we must see if his life bears the fruit of repentance. Our brother has asked for forgiveness, we cannot judge whether he deserves it or not.
