Goodies: The Winans & Michael McDonald

Most folks know that one of my favorite male vocalists is Marvin Winans.  If I take a moment to think about it, though, Michael McDonald follows not too far behind.

Imagine my sheer delight as I watched this live performance of The Winans’ “Love Has No Color,” featuring Michael McDonald.  I’ve always loved the studio track, but to watch ‘em live… there are NO words.  And, an aside: Carvin is doing his good singin’ on here, too.

What’s your favorite song from The Winans?

My favorite song from The Winans is 'If Ever I Fall'. Very much a throwback, but still one of the best! I think that my two favorite songs written by ANY Winans are 'Wherever I Go' and 'The Consecration Song', by the late great Ronald Winans, I watch the YouTube clips about once a week.

Michael McDonald has been adopted into the family. He's one of us! :)

I think there are WAY too many of their songs that I like; it's kinda hard to narrow them down...but I will say "Long Time Comin" is definitely close to be one of my all time favs from them...

My favorite Winans tune is Goodness, Mercy, Grace off their first album. Those first three albums really speak to me with the songwriting and what they do with form and texture. Music and message both stand the test of the time.

Wow, I was searching for 'I Feel Like Going On' sung by Marvin Winans and came across this blog! I had to laugh when I read your first paragraph about Michael McDonald being a close second to Mr. Winans as your favorites. I've been a huge fan of MM's for many years and here recently have been listening to a lot of Bishop Marvin's music. When I listen to those men sing, my spirit is touched so deeply and a huge smile comes across my face. They have been blessed by the Lord above with a tremendous gift!

@Lauren: sooo glad you found the site! :-) Did you find the other music clip you were looking for? Lemme know if I can help.

@ EJ - No, I wasn't able to find it on iTunes or anywhere else. I heard it on the radio today and made a note to download it but haven't had much success. I found a YouTube clip of him singing it but would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have it on CD or my iPod - his voice and this song gives me chills. See the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-qrPYzQ5R0 PS - Thanks for the welcome! ;-)

@Lauren: Ahhh. Marvin Winans performed this for a special tribute album for Bishop G.E. Patterson-- which may be why you've had a hard time finding it. I don't think it's available on iTunes, and it's not available for mp3 download at Amazon.com, though you CAN buy the hard copy from Amazon. Click here: Tribute to G.E. Patterson at Amazon.com I hope that helps!!!

@ EJ - Thanks! Also, when I tried to play the video you had posted here it mentions that you had removed it. Is it still available for viewing on YouTube? When I searched there, I was unable to find it.
