Word Has It: Tye Tribbett In Studio With Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins

Word has it that Tye Tribbett is working with mainstream producer Rodney Jerkins aka “Darkchild” on his next album, due in stores later this year.

I think that’s gonna be a rather hot collabo… interested in hearing the sound that comes from their sessions!

Reps from his team sent me some photo footage for your viewing pleasure:

Will this be Tye or Tye and G.A? I thought Tye didn't want musicians, etc. who played 'secular' stuff? *looking baffled* Not that I ever had a issue with it (my job isn't with the church either), but he seemed so dead set against it. Hmmm...

  • T.Marie wrote on January 21, 2010

I think that is going to be HOT! I have always LOVED Darkchild and EVERYTHING that has come from his camp!

  • toryterron wrote on January 21, 2010

this should be a good collabo! always liked tye's and rodney's work!

  • Big Mike07 wrote on January 21, 2010

Tye was always so intensely against people working with secular artist, now he is working with a producer that produces for them(LOL) I guess he has complete dropped the standard, he needs to listen to his Stand Out song a few times...LOL

  • Keisha wrote on January 21, 2010

I'm sure the song will be hot but such CONTRADICTIONS coming out from our gospel artists now. Wasn't he just on CNN in opposition of PJ Morton's involvement in gospel & secular world? So which is it Tye? lol

  • Lou wrote on January 21, 2010

dunno if I'm interested in a project from Tye w/o G.A (is someone from his camp/label going to confirm this?). No, I do know -- I'm not. Love Darkchild's work tho.

  • v4c wrote on January 21, 2010

Keisha, I think the pictures answer that question for you, lol. Man, the last few days in the gospel world have been TOO MUCH! LMBO! Even for me, who compared to some of you, would be considered too liberal. I can't call it... I don't know what the heck is going on anymore...

  • J Thorpe wrote on January 21, 2010

Is that Manwell Reyes in the back from Group 1 Crew?

  • deon wrote on January 21, 2010

I dont really care too much for his music especially since he is no longer with his group.

  • ... wrote on January 21, 2010

@J Thorpe... i was gonna say, no acknowledgement of Manwell in the background? lol I wonder if he will be on a track? hmmm

  • Neal(Daysun) wrote on January 21, 2010

This is hot. I can not wait til this project is done. I wish I could be in the studio with them. Rondney Jerkins has always worked with Gospel artists. he did stuff with Kiki. I like DarkChild. I think this collab would be good.

Ok i appreciate Tye for his bold stand for Christ but he's been contradicting himself latley and when people start to do that I begin to unappreciate their craft. I was jus talking to some pep about his whole situation...I dont think people have as much as an issue with what happened but the fact that Tye proclaimed to be this Holy Christian who seemed to never do any wrong and always telling other people whats wrong and whats right. Heres my thing dont put yourself on a high pedistal n look down on everyone else as your perfect. None of us are its what we strive to be because its what Jesus was. Tye havent even addressed the issue....I guess his camp is probably telling him to wait until the release of the album to gain more attention. Not trying to put Kirk done but he did the same thing around the release of his album Hero he wanted to talk about pornography on Oprah. I think Kirk had the best intentions but its crazy this all came up around the release of his new album. Im jus tired of people playing with God dont put urself out there as some holy thou art christians. People are more accepting when you are real about who u are and what u are

@v4c I was thinking the same thing! This year is starting to make 2009 look like a walk in the park... But seeing this makes me look more closely at my walk with God and to really, really be on His side.

    Not interested

Ive always had a problem with Tye, hes just always over doing it. Y'all keep saying his situation, I have no idea of what your referring to but I'm not suprised by people's reaction to anything negative surrounding him. Somethings he says comes off a bit hypocritical.

  • jland wrote on January 21, 2010

I am just speechless. A total let down. Lord please help me. I am so confused about if our leaders are really called by you or is it all hoax. Where are you Lord? Are you dwelling in this stuff or not. At least the so called secular artists live what they sing. (And I'm not judging, just so disappointed.) Lord, help my unbelief. I wanna believe you are using someone; on the real. My rants to God. (Say a prayer for me to hold on.)

  • mw wrote on January 22, 2010

yeah thats manny from G1C jthorpe. he was talkin bout hanging out with em on twitter. maybe G1C will get a darkchild produced track on their upcoming album. that'd be hot!

  • CW wrote on January 22, 2010

@jland...I really, really felt your prayer. Just yesterday, I was praying to God because I was right where you are (and still am). Conflict, confusion, and chaos has caused me to see things from a whole new perspective. It's heartbreaking when you see someone, whose ministry you've followed and you've admired so dearly, fall from grace; however, I believe there are no coincidences. We all fall short. We can never place someone so far on a pedestal to where we fail not to take in account that they war with the same flesh we war with. With Tye, I love him and his ministry. I will still follow and support his ministry because regardless of what happened, he still preaches the WORD. The bible says that "the word of the Lord is right and true". YES, he must be accountable for his actions, as we all do but I believe every thing that the WORD says. The bible also says "Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?" I can speak for myself when I say that in the past I have relied so much on people...people preaching the word, people singing the word, etc...that sometimes I took my eyes off of God and placed them on the PEOPLE. I believe this is the time where God wants us to keep our eyes, our faith, and our hope in HIM alone because people are mere flesh and we are prone to messing up. I pray for Tye and I pray for the entire body of Christ that we live the life we preach and submit to God's word WHOLEHEARTEDLY. I'm a firm believer that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. So even with all the controversy, GOD AND HIS PEOPLE WILL PREVAIL AND HE WILL RECEIVE ALL GLORY!!! God bless!

jland, that brought tears to my eyes. YOU DONT GIVE UP, if the world is falling and if all the church folk are turning to sin, STANP UP!! Gods grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinth 12:9), dont overly rely on man, we are failures but God promised to keep you in perfect peace if you stay focues on Him (Isaiah 26:3). I know how you feel, I have been down over the pass couple of days, its sad. It must be known that Mr. Jerkins claims Christ and I saw him in an interview saying how he witnessed to Michael Jackson and all that. He also has darkchild gospel and has produced many gospel albums. My question is, what about the poison that he produces? Is God down with that. The bible cannot be wrong, The love of money is the root of all evil. jland and CW, God will keep us of that I am sure!!! Jude 1:24 (King James Version) 24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

  • KEM wrote on January 22, 2010

Oh Lord... Anyway, IDK what to think.. I never thought of Tye as a singer anyway. Rodney AND Freddie Jerkins produce really hott gospel songs. I loved when they did Virtue's last album. But I guess some of yall have a problem with Warryn Campbell and the gospel artists he works with. Or Karen workin with Missy. idk

  • Michael Jenkins wrote on January 23, 2010

Not a big fan of tye working with a secular producer, but I hope Tye stands for Christ & not let the gospel mix with secular.

Lord, I just want to be right. Regardless of what others do. Help me to make the right choices. And If I slip...God I thank you for your grace AND unconditional love. But, I don't want to use your grace as an excuse because I know you know the intent before I do whatever I do.

For yall that dont know, Darkchild works with MANY Gospel Artist. You dont hear about it to much, cause people stick to the secular world. However Darkchild has done wonderful works for Gods kingdom. His work with Mr. Tye Tribbett seems to me, the work of Gods kingdom. Others that are still in secular, might see it different. Not contridiction. But this may be pulling Darkchild, completely to Gospel. Weeeee dont know, what God is doing!

  • Paul N wrote on January 25, 2010

shauna4evaservn, he claims to be a Christian, so no God is not in it. His father is a minister, so he knows. Everytime a someone joins with the secular we say God is doing something, I HATE THAT. Is God always waiting for a Christian to collaborate with the secular in order to save them?

  • Gospel Insider wrote on January 25, 2010

Tye's not contradicting himself, he's working with a gospel producer. Either way, he never said he wouldn't work with those that do both forms of music. He was admonishing those that do, like Rodney. I wonder if this is really for him or for Manwell upcoming stuff. I'll soon find out and keep ya'll posted.

  • EJ wrote on January 25, 2010

@Gospel Insider-- No need to wonder. It's for Tye's upcoming project, and that's straight from his team to me.

  • v4c wrote on January 25, 2010

Gospel Insider, I personally find this move to be hypocritical after hearing him, live with my own ears, talk about listening to, playing, and singing for secular artists and then getting up on Sunday morning to play for church services and how wrong that is. Only for him to know that Rodney does that and then allow him to produce his CD...but that's not wrong?? I'm confused, Tye, LOL. And I've never agreed with Tye's position on the matter, btw. I do listen to secular music (love and life stuff).

  • Paul N wrote on January 25, 2010

What gospel producer is that? So we can now produce gospel and sin now? If a man does both why would you call him a gospel producer? what does that mean anyway, sinners can do that then. All things are lawful but all things are not expedient! This is a direct quote from Tye I found on ex ministries. “Hanging with unsaved people isn’t a sin. Listening to R&B and hip hop isn’t sin, spending too much time on Facebook isn’t sin, but it draws you away and that’s all the Devil needs to do – draw you away and tempt you to sin.” (taken from the jamaica gleaner november 10, 2009,

  • Gopsel Insider wrote on January 25, 2010

Just talked to Tye personally...it's official. Please note he will be clarifying everything. Stay posted EJ will be one of the ones he intends to talk with. He says EJ sticks to the facts and not a bunch of foolish gossip and innuendo.

  • v4c wrote on January 26, 2010

Everything, Gospel Insider!? I hope everything means EVERYTHING... EJ, congrats to you for being a trusted resource for artists to come to!

  • jland wrote on January 26, 2010

Beyonce sings gospel, Mariah sings gospel, Whitney sings gospel, Joe sings gospel, R Kelly sings gospel. But (HE) told us at his concert not to listen or support these because their lives and spirits will lead us to death. He told me and my family at his concert you don't know their spirits. My kids are not to even buy certain clothes because the makers spirit will bring them death and not life. I received what he said. But now...

  • jland wrote on January 26, 2010

Darkchild WRITES the songs for the ones he told us will lead to DEATH. Because these people don't record only gospel I guess only certain ones of them will bring us death and not life. But Darkchild with him is okay, right? But when he writes for Beyonce or Brandy who don't call sinners to repentance at their concerts its not ok? (Not judging him just dont know anymore.)

  • jland wrote on January 26, 2010

People think we are picking on him. My kids want to be just like him. But some of us actually felt convicted from what he told us. I guess we should be careful.

  • brooklyn1972 wrote on January 30, 2010

I'm really interested to hear what Tye will say regarding his new album. I also have heard him minister several times regarding the "mixing" of secular and gospel. To the point of calling out people for their ringtones on their phones. My prayer is that we will all do better at not -being conformed to this world but being transformed (daily) by the renewing of our minds so we can know what God's acceptable will is (paraphrase Romans 12:2 ) btw: EJ, I apologize for digressing but any updates on how Da' Truth is doing?

  • Keisha wrote on January 30, 2010

Tye picked an excellent choice for his first interview. I hope he thanks EJ for his tactfulness throughout the heat of the scandal.

  • Charlene Arrington wrote on March 15, 2010

Does Rodney Jenkins(darkchild) work with children, if he does what do we need to do to get some music to him.

  • Clara B. wrote on April 27, 2010

Nice pics. :) Wouldn't it be cool if this were the resurrection of "Darkchild Gospel"? I can't seem to find anything by them past 2007. Not even a website. They did a lot of stuff in the 90s. Off the top of my head they've worked with "Kiki Sheard", "Virtue" and "George Huff". The producer for "Darkchild Gospel" (or the main producer at least) was Freddie Jerkins (aka Uncle Freddie). I wonder if he's still with Darkchild.

  • Kris wrote on April 27, 2010

Lol! Do you guys know anything about Rodney Jerkins?! Seriously go check him out on Wiki or Google or something. I don' think Tye is going against anything he said working with this guy. Lol! What if Tye were working with PJ Morton? Would you be saying the same thing? Look up who he's produced for before you say, "no".
