I needed some workin’ music yesterday and I didn’t feel like pulling up iTunes on my computer… it can get a little temperamental when I’m doing too much at once and I wasn’t in the mood.
SO, I went to YouTube and landed on an oooooold favorite of mine– it’s Hezekiah Walker & Love Fellowship Crusade Choir (back when they had that “Crusade” in the name!) featuring Kervy Brown on “The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow.” After I had played it 14 times, I figured “I may as well just go ahead and post it.”
Now, I know some of you are partial to the remake with Kim Burrell from the Family Affair II: Live At Radio City Music Hall album, but don’t sleep on the original. She definitely made it her own, but she had a melodic foundation from which to do it… that’s all I’m sayin’.
Back when I was a member of Love Fellowship Tabernacle (didn’t know that, did ya?), there was NOTHING like hearing Kervy Brown sing on Sunday morning… and here’s one of the reasons why:
A little piece of trivia I like to tell every time this song is mentioned– did you know that Benjamin Jeffrey Grant Clark (VP of Radio Promotions & Artist Relations at Verity Gospel Music Group, and one of the funniest dudes around) wrote this arrangement?
Choirs just aren’t singin’ like they used to! Whatd’ya think???

What is Mr. Kervy Brown up to? I haven't heard anything from him in a while, but those upbeat songs with him singing lead on YouTube will make you dance around the house for sure. I post my favorite songs on Facebook in hope that someone will be blessed as I have enjoyed them all. I will completely wear a tambourine out on these songs:) Rings go flying into the next pew..lol
LOL! Look how thin Pastor Hez was!!! FUNNY!! Love ya Pastor! This is classic. I've always loved LFC . And Kervy...what can you say???!!!!!!!!!!...One of the most distinctive voices in gospel music!
Funny, I just ripped all of my Love Fellowship cds last night to my iTunes library. I needed to reconnect with the old school gospel tunes that lifted me. I remember visiting LFT years ago nearly every Sunday and enjoying Min. Brown sing his heart out, so moving! Such a powerful voice and sincere delivery. I saw him in passing in midtown about a year ago and should have acknowledged him but it all happened so quickly.
I think the opener for this year's Stellar Awards proves that choirs still have it! Sadly, choirs have been somewhat neglected in today's gospel, but I think there's gonna be a resurgence of good choir music soon! I'm usually partial to the original versions of songs. Remember, without the original there would be no remake.
I recently "rediscovered" Family Affair (I) on my shelf and have been playing it all day, everyday at work - Power Belongs to God, Oh I Feel Jesus, The Will of God, More Like Him... - it will stay in my rotation from now on - it's dusty days are ovah!
@Katydid- I just looked him up and he is actually pastoring in Danville, VA. (http://www.greaterdeliverancetemple.com/). He is clearly doing his thing for Jesus! I'm bout to go for round two with this song...
LET ME SAY FRIST I LOVE HEZE AND THE LOVE FELLOWSHIP CURSADE CHIOR HAVIN BEEN RAISED IN BRIDGEPORT CT I ALWAYS HEARD HEZE AND THEM AT MY CHRUCHES CHOIR ANIVERSERY AND AT BISHOP KENNETH MOALES CHRUCHAND VARIOUS OTHER CHRUCH FUCTIONS . WITH THAT SAID CHOIRS ARE NOT SINGIN THE WAY THEY USED TO BECAUSE THE STANDARD IS SO HIGH. HEZ AND LFCC PUT IT BEYOND THE REACH OF ALOT OF CHIORS RANGE. EVEN THE SECOND GENERATION OF LFCC CANT COMPARE REALLY WITH THE GENERTION OF THE MID 90S AND EARLY 2000S. IF YOUR RECORD PRODUCER AND WANTED TO LOOK FOR A CHOIR TO PUT OUT YOU AUTOMATICLY THINK I WANT A CHOIR LIKE HEZE AND LFCC.ON MY LABEL. BUT ITS HARD TO FIND A CHIOR LIKE THEM BECAUSE THEY PRACTICE SO MUCH AND USALLY THER PRACTICES TURN IN TO PRAISE AND WORSHIP MEETINGS BECAUSE THE MEMEBERS REALLY LOVE AND SERVE THE LORD.I KNOW FROM HAVIN BEEN RAISED AROUND THEM FROM BIRTH UNTILL I WAS ABOUT 11 YEARS OLD ITS HARD TO FIND PEOPLE AS WILLING AND AS DEDICATED AS THE FRIST AND SECOND GENERATIONS OF THE LOVE FELLOWSHIP CHOIR.WHO WILL PUT THER SOULS AND HEART INTO SERVING THE LORD.IN WORD AND SONG. THE BEST CHIOR MUSIC COMES FROM THE HEART AND SOUL OF MEN AND WOMEN OF GOD WHO WILL GIVE GOD THEIR VERY BEST BECAUSE THEY LOVE HIM AND WANT TO GIVE GOD THEIR BEST.PRAISE TODAYS GENERATION IS TO WORRIED ABOUT FORTUNE AND FAME AND BEING REGOGNIZED. THEN INSTEAD OF GRINDIN IT OUT FOR THE LORD BECAUSE HES WORTHY TO BE GIVEN THE HIGHEST PRAISE. AND THATS WHY CHIORS ARE NOT SINGIN LIKE THEY USED TO.
