On TV: Yolanda Adams Sings & Addresses Those Who Judge Her

Remember a while back, when Yolanda Adams was supposed to be on The Mo’Nique Show, but the episode didn’t air?  Well, it must’ve aired at SOME point cuz portions of it are online.  And they’re good.

In this clip, Mo’Nique shares how impactful Yolanda was on the set of The Parkers (remember that show?).  She then requests that Yolanda sing “Already Alright,” which she does VERY well.  It was always one of my favorite cuts on the Mountain High… Valley Low project.

After her song, Yolanda launches into a quick testimonial moment.  In it, she talks about how it felt to have a man walk in the door of the house that she pays the bills for, and tell her that he doesn’t love her anymore… she addresses those that judged her decision to get a divorce– she says her LIFE was in danger. She has a lot more to say about the goodness of God in her situation and I mean she PREACHED. I’m actually kinda proud of the producers for not editing out her sermonette. :-)

Listen to what she’s got to say:

What do you think???

That's why she's my role model. I love you Yo Yo.

It did come on TV about a month ago cause I watched it. The cast of the Parkers was on. Yolanda repped well on that episode. She just let somethings out that was bottled up in her. But she's delivered from that mess! To God be the glory!

I got a chance to watch this on Youtube. Yolanda is the real deal and that is why I love her! She is my Sista!

Why is she on Monique's show again? You know, Monique has a quite non-Christian reputation...seriously, her language--I saw the show when marvin sapp was on it, can be a little bit too much. Yolanda Adams could have preached it somewhere else...

I enjoyed that clip of Yolanda's brief testimoy! I really love how she keeps it real, and she definatley ministerd to someone that night.

@toe.....Wouldn't it make more sense for her to give a testimony like that on the show, we have been called to be a light to THE WORLD, and if she only saves it for church then it gives no hope to them in darkness....So I salute Yolanda for having the boldness to preach and give her testimony anywhere.

We needs shows that showcase artist & their testimonies because it encourages me & it helps me. Yolanda just messed me up right now i wasnt expecting all that on a primetime non religious show. Give God his praise he is so good.

I'm glad that Yolanda took heed to the Spirit and allowed herself to be used during that specific moment. I know of too many people who are concerned about being "appropriate" and watered-down for the audience. Now I do agree with "toe", Monique has gone off at the mouth with absolutely NO regard to her caliber of guests. I did catch the interview with Pastor Marvin Sapp and HE actually disappointed me with his passiveness on certain answers. I'm not saying you go on these shows and start speaking in tongues and laying hands. But if somebody asks you a question that the Bible gives a clear direction on...that's your opportunity to tell the truth...you don't go with the "it's whatever"-type of attitude. Otherwise, what's the point of trying to be a light in a dark place?

  • Tam Tam wrote on February 3, 2010

Ok... I'm just gonna say it: Why the need to speak about anything about HER business? Methinks she protest too much? I mean, who knew about her situation? It wasn't like it was national news. If she's just sharing her testimony, wonderful. But in terms of speaking to those who were "judging" her (another over/misused term), I mean why?

  • MrsRkb wrote on February 3, 2010

Yolanda will praise God anywhere and I truly love that about her.

And those of you who are judging Yolanda or any gospel artist who are on a national platform and on television shows like Monique need to seriously get a life--really... I know, church folks, those who are so "perfect" need to pray for our gospel artists and not spread negativity.

    Preach Adams!!!

I must say that she is a true example of strength. Christians are quick to forget that we are still human and go through things just like anyone else. I commend her for telling her story and she will be even more blessed because of this! We all have stories to tell! Let's help the Kingdom become even stronger and let the enemy know that we are all victorious because our Father said so!

so now we "qualify" testimonies in terms of the appropriate venue? :-/ since when are testimonies confined to certain settings? that would pretty much cut at the core of what a testimony is and what it's supposed to do, would it not?! lawd, the church is so insular...the power of God is more mighty than any foulness on the monique show, just like He is more mighty than some of the shifty [s]aints sitting next to you on sunday. i don't see where the venue matters, if the intent and heart behind it is right. **climbs down off my soapbox & kicks it over on the way out**

  • Byron wrote on February 4, 2010

@Toe, you have a valid concern about her appearing on the Mo'Nique show, but Yolanda Adams is clearly focused as a gospel artist. She didn't hold her testimony or her witness back. And you can tell that Mo'Nique respects her. It was a bit different on Mo'Nique's show with Marvin Sapp a few weeks back where she asked him his take on her cuss-mouth... and probably in the heat of the moment, he just said "be you." Eh... not salty enough. To me, that was a missed opportunity to drop some truth... maybe not to change Mo'Nique but who knows. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Do we believe it? It's up to the artist to use the moment to make bold stands or not. And just because she preached THIS TIME doesn't means she'll always get the opportunity to let the rivers flow on some show's production dollars. Let's pray for these artists to be focused, honest and bold.

Yes, do it Yolanda!!!!!! Love it.

  • EaZy wrote on February 4, 2010

"Why the need to speak about anything about HER business? " because it's HER business and she wanted to. i don't think any further explanation is needed. and is that REALLY Tata Vega?!?!?!

  • Keisha wrote on February 4, 2010

And "her business" is all apart of HER testimony. Do we forget the scripture in Revelation 12:11? Obviously God laid it on her heart to share that specific story because there was SOMEBODY present in the audience or at home watching going thru the same thing who needed it.

  • Tam Tam wrote on February 4, 2010

"because it’s HER business and she wanted to. i don’t think any further explanation is needed. " And every time she opens her mouth (in public) about her business, it invites others to blog ab0ut it and, in her opinion, judge her. So she can stop the vicious cycle. It's the word of her/our testimony that overcomes, not her trying to respond to critics. The Lord gets NO GLORY out of responding to critics. That's the further explanation that was needed here.

@All-- A new house rule is in place that speaks to these quarrelsome debates that seem to instantly pop up and continue forever. In short-- it all ends now. You can check it at http://localhost/gospelpundit/house-rules/ so you won't feel like I didn't tell you. There have already been casualties and, I expect, more shall come. Pray NOT to be in the number. And, thanks for visiting the site... keep comin'. I hope you enjoy! :-)

ALRIGHT NOW! I can't be mad at that, at all. I love how the band kicked in near the end, and REALLY took it to church, LOL.

Some Christians are so confined to the inside of the church walls. The object of this game is to win souls to Christ. If you only preach to the souls that are already won how does that increase the body of Christ? Don't forget what the word "church" truly means. It is the gathering of the body of Christ, not the building itself. Get your minds outside of that building and be blessing to your co-workers, your basketball buddies or even a television audience :) There are souls every where waiting for you to lead them to Jesus. Jesus was a friend to saint and sinner. Yolanda, as she always does, was leading by example, she "lives" what she preaches. No holding back for Monique and anyone else. Yolanda showed herself as an example of my favorite phrase... "BE" the change you want to see in the world. We want to see praise, worship and testimonies circulating. Peace
