Just In: Billboard Mag Predicts Marvin Sapp To Give Highest Debut!

JUST IN!!!

Billboard Magazine is predicting that Marvin Sapp’s newest album, Here I Am, will have the HIGHEST DEBUT this week among ALL albums in ANY genre!

According to an article that was just posted at Billboard.com, he’s predicted to sell as many as 70,000 copies by this Sunday, placing him among the Billboard 200′s Top 5 artists next week.

The last time a gospel album debuted in the Top 200 was Mary Mary’s The Sound, which sold 37,000 units in the first week, debuting at #7.

DUUUUUUUUDE!!! This is major and awesome and all that good stuff!  Congrats, in advance, Pastor Sapp!

Awesome! It can and will happen! Prices are low, there is no excuse for the Saints (and ain'ts) not to buy it!

I don't follow Billboard week-to-week like that but it hasn't been since Mary Mary's cd that a gospel album debuted in the Top 200. Because BeBe & CeCe had a pretty good debut in the upper part of the chart. But if Marvin Sapp can make it in the Top 5 and possibly debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 would be fantastic. I don't know if any other gospel album has achieved that feat.

This is totally major! Wow! Congrats Pastor Sapp! I'm enjoying the cd! I can't wait to pick up the dvd! Thanks for sharing Bro. EJ!

Here I am is a very good song. At first I wasn't too sure about the album because his first single didn't really move me, but Here I Am has a powerful message.

Guess I should contribute, huh? LOL... I mean, I like the single and all but it didn't light the fire under me to run and download the CD immediately... But I promise to do my part to help make this billboard prediction a reality... :-)

I got it yesterday. Congrats Pastor Sapp. Love it. This has made the rotation in my car in between Susie Owens and Rudolph McKissick sermons. Ted Winn and Daniel Moore did something with Comfort Zone.

That's great! I wonder if the Amazon sale helped those sales numbers. Amazon actually has had a special deal like the one they had for Marvin (either 2.99 or 3.99 for an entire CD download) every single day for about a year now. Sometimes the price stays on special for just one day, and sometimes - usually on the weekends - it will be that special price for 3 days. Amazon also has free single songs for download each day and has had some gospel songs offered. This is a sample of the FREE songs Amazon has offered in the past year that I downloaded: The Anointed Pace Sisters ("If I Be Lifted Up"), Anthony Evans ("Amazing God"), Donnie McClurkin ("the Great I Am"), J Moss ("I Gave it Up"), Ted Ginn ("God Believes in You'), and Trinitee 5:7 ("Love"). Last year Amazon had two FREE gospel "samplers" with music from artists from Universal Music, I think? It was 29 FREE songs, including songs from Regina Belle, Spensha Baker, Niyoki, Phil Tarver, Kevin LeVar, Canton Jones. An amazing deal. I suggest signing up for Amazon's free mp3 newsletter which comes in email every Tuesday and gives links to each free individual song or album available for the week. I just downloaded a free song from Monica this morning. Not gospel, but FREE. :-)

Keisha M & EJ- I think the only other gospel artist or group that achieve a strong top Billboard 200 Debut is God's Property. God's Property debut at No#3 and sold 110,000 copies in the first week. I might be off on the numbers.
