Word Has It: Meet Smokie Norful's Victory Cathedral Choir

Word has it that Smokie Norful’s church choir, the Victory Cathedral Choir, will be releasing its debut album on April 6th!

Watch the video to see how it’s all come together in a REALLY short time:

I hear that the music is true to the Chicago choir sound, with a little bit of modern flair.  I wish we could actually hear ‘em in the video… they look like they’re doing their thing.  I’m a try to get some music for you guys.  Hold tight, ok?!

In the meantime, whatd’ya think?  Are you willing to give ‘em a go, simply cuz it’s Smokie Norful’s choir?  I think we can trust it, no?

I dont know. I feel like everyone is trying to jump on the recording church choir ban wagon. What happend to just singing at church and being done with it lol? im not a hater I just wonder. IF all these choirs keep doing this there will be no one to listen because everyone is singing. Now sense this is Smokey I will pay more attention to it.

i agree with Deon re: the church choir recording bandwagon...BUT i've seen Smokie Norful do some press for the project and it seems that his heart is really in it. i listened to the 30 second clips on amazon (in the mp3 section) and from what i can tell, it's not bad. EJ is right about the "Chicago Sound". of course, i'll need to hear some stuff in it's entirety before i commit to buying - as with any project.

I agree with EaZy. After listening to the 30-second mp3 clips of the Victory Cathedral Choir's recording, the influence of "Chicago sound" is both fresh and undeniable. Everything, from the "jazzy" vocals to the bold, yet intricate horn arrangements, has me counting down the days until April 6th (16 to be exact!) The VCC album is sure to breathe life into the recording choir movement; take note Bishop Charles E. Blake, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Bishop Larry D. Trotter et al. Although, it should come as no surprise, given Smokie Norful's pastorship over the Victory Cathedral, I was blown away by the quality the choir's vocals. Sing choir!!! "Rejoice", "You're All I Need", and "I Made It" sound like stand-out tracks, but I, too, will reserve judgment until I hear the album in its entirety. Thanks EJ for continuing to spotlight unique and anointed gospel acts!

I got to get it. I was sold once Smokie said the choir was made up of lay members. It's something about live recordings when the people truly have a love for God and ministry. It's the annointing factor that you just can't fake. Besides it's Smokie's choir you know he is only bringing the best.

    I'm buying it, but I'm biased. I am a choir junky. :-)

@Honestly I've pre-ordered it through a friend of mine already. I also love choir stuff. The cd came out far greater than most people's expectations, including some people who attend the church. Congrats Victory.

I just might take you guy's word for this since I can tell y'all aren't the "street team" who rushed over to hype the song way beyond what it deserves, lol. Y'all know that happens around here from time to time...
