Check 'Em Out: Josiah "Jojo" Martin

I wanna take a quick moment to feature a cool new artist, Josiah “Jojo” Martin.  He’s actually been writing and doing background vocals behind the scenes for quite some time, but he’s just now stepping out on his own as a solo artist.

Josiah "Jojo" MartinIn addition to offering BGV’s for PJ Morton and Fred Hammond, Jojo is currently producing an album for Stephanie Mills, as well as writing and providing vocals for the long-awaited album from Dalon Collins (former member of Kirk Franklin & The Family).  You’ll also find his work on the latest releases from James Fortune & FIYA and, soon, on the newest album from VaShawn Mitchell.

At age 25, Jojo’s voice is incredibly reminiscent of the great crooners from the old skool.  He’s got a gritty tone that reminds me of someone like David Ruffin or Jason Nelson, but a vocal delivery that definitely has some modern, urban flavor to it.

He’s anticipating a full album release later this year.  In the meantime, I’ve just added his first single, “Always,” to the PunditPlayer.  I’m REALLY diggin’ it.

Click here to take a listen and lemme know what you think!!!

He lives what he sings about (and that says alot in this day and age) I cannot wait until his own CD comes out! He will be one of the great ones of Gospel Music in years to come!

I'm so proud of you "Joso". I still remember the lil boy who used to play the drums and get in trouble when ever the sun shine band sang lets give jesus 1. And you would hit the the high hat real hard and Grandma battle would turn to you and yell Stop Hitting that drum that hard.....We would be on the floor. I Thank God for making you the man you are today. I Thank God for allowing you to go through the things you've gone through so you can be a testimony for someone else. Everything happened in his timing! I Love You

I am so looking forward to seeing how you will all be blessed by my litttle brothers ministry. He sings from his soul and I know exactly from where he draws his strength. His singing is from the heart and he's been singing this way since I met him when he was 10 years old. Keep it up Jojo...Grandad, Mom, and Jerome are rejoicing!!!

Love, love, LOVE this song! (true account) I'd been listening to my iPod all morning/afternoon and switched to the pundit player (using my headphones connected to my PC) with the iPod still very close by all while working. Once this song came on, it really captured my attention and I picked up my iPod to see who this person is...and I can't figure out why the "now playing" screen says Kim Burrell! LMBO! I mean...I was really getting frustrated. Then, I noticed my iPod ear-buds were also laying beside the iPod! Silly rabbit! You're listening to the Pundit Player! LOL... Man, I worry about myself sometimes...I blame Jojo's lovely song for throwing me off, LOL...
