Tonight, The Mo’Nique Show on BET will feature Tina Campbell of Mary Mary (Erica’s due any day and can’t be travelin’ all willy nilly), Y’Anna Crawley and Christian funny-man Jonathan Slocumb.
Should be a grrrrrreat show. I’m grateful to Mo’Nique (and her producers) for providing so many mainstream opps for gospel folks. Even Shirley Caesar will be on soon…
The show airs at 11pm ET/10pm CST on BET.
Who’s tuning in tonight???

That's dope, EJ! I'll have to set the dvr for this one...
I love when Mo'Nique has gospel artists on her show, I don't love watching them cringe when profanity flies out of her mouth. For that reason, I probably won't watch. However, when Shirley Caesar is a guest on her show, I will definitely be watching, seeing how they respond to one another will VERY interesting!
I shall be watching!
Nelle, Your comment is hypocritical. I try to watch all her shows and will definitely tune in tonite!
Great show!
People. do yourselves a favor and pray for Mo'nique.....
Did I miss something? Cause I could have sworn Tina Campbell/Yanna Crawley were supposed to be on tonight...oh well! :(
I just watched it... Here's the link. Hope it works.... http://www.bet.com/video/995260 Methinks that her interview with Tina C. was her "cleanest" (meaning profanity-free) interview (with a gospel artist) yet.... The interviews are much more substantive when they're clean.... Uh oh.... I just saw the Jonathan Slocumb interview.... Sigh....
The interview did not air last night on television, there must have been a programming issue.
@ Deborah: Your comment about my comment was unnecessary and incorrect. It is not impossible that an individual can have mixed feelings about a situation. I'm not interested in having a debate about my COMPLETELY INNOCUOUS (caps are for emphasis, not for yelling)expression of my opinion. Please just respect that I have an opinion and feel free to express yours. Have a great day!
I'm watching the episode now and I just had a thought cross my mind.. I hope that people don't get mixed messages from the Mo'Nique show and other media outlets similar to that (radio, television, internet, etc.). I'm not condemning by any means. I just think that some mixed messages are portrayed at times- whether the folks who portray them know it or not.
@ Tam Tam: Yeah I agree, it was the cleanest, along w/ the Bebe & Cece interview that aired before. In general, I think Tina was awesome. She just did what she (Mary Mary) always does. Great! :)
Here we go! Just saw the interveiw with Tina and although it was refreshing to see Monique refrain from her usual foul language, Tina came out the gate with compromise and excuses for the world to stay in their mess! Of course the world loves these "do you -Marvin Sapp, be you- Mary Mary" weak christians. But the word is clear that we are to be in fear when men (theworld) loves you Lk 6:26.The line of holiness is beyond blurred. But the word has already warned us of these very times. SMH, "Im a cussin christian" and "god made methis way" are you kidding? The devil is truly crazy! Saints it is trulytime to cry aload and spare not!
Shirley Caesar, Karen Clark-Sheard, and Fred Hammond will be taping for the show next. I'm glad Monique is extending the door for more & more gospel artists to appear and not just 1 or 2 like other programs.
@ Eyeswideopen: “Im a cussin christian” and “god made methis way” I tell you: anybody who is a FOR REAL Christian ought to be up in arms (including those folk on the stage) for allowing her to lie on the Lord like that.... BUT: I'm giving the guests (Tina and JS) the benefit of the doubt because wisdom is greatly needed in such situations. You don't blast the talk show host in front of everybody. That kind of iron-sharpening takes wisdom so I'm hoping (against hope) that the guests attempted to minister to Mo about that in some (minimal) way.
Who said they were a cussing Christian?
@eyeswideopen The comment about being a cussing Christian is completely normal. I don't think its to say that you cuss for no reason, but it is admitting that it may come out. People who are non believers run away from the church because of the same statements that some of Yall are making. No one is perfect, Christian or not. I'm not condoning anything. But being a human comes with struggles and weakness, to say that someone is not a Christian or that their lieing on God because they cuss is definitely false. Stop painting these pictures of perfection. Stop putting your mouth on the people of God. You will never win souls by doing this. It makes you look very arrogant and as my pastor would say, "Stuck in that old time religion".
We are in the end of days when a "cussing Christian" is considered normal and can be justified by others. We are not perfect but what's supposed to be the difference is that we should not feel at ease about our sinful habits. We dare don't say that God "made" us to be that way like Monique declared!! It is a LIE and BLASPHEMOUS too. Wake up folks.
i completely agree with you keisha!!
" A cussing christian", there is no such thing! Did Jesus curse? That is like saying a "drinking christian" The devil is a liar, Jesus called us to be servants and any man that is born of God does not be like the world, COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM AND BE YE SEPARATED! You cannot justify that, please people read your bible. I am not trying to sound "holier than thou" but I do know there is a difference between clean and unclean! As far as the interview goes, it is okay but I`m with the person above me let us not send mixed messages, If Monique wants to invite gospel artist(s) to her show, than so be it but you can`t mix the word into the church and expect God to be okay with it. You have to make up your mind who are you serving. God said you are either hot or cold, lukewarm I would spit you out of my mouth!
@marshawn God bless and thanks for your reply. First let' be clear that as beleivers our measure of truth should only be based on the word of God, not emotion or based soley off what your "pastor says". With that said the bible calls us to perfection thru Jesus Christ! In response to your first comment. Mr. Slocum was specific in describing the senario after first meeting Monique. He said she told him she knew he was a believer BUT basically challenged him to say a cuss word. He then admitted that he allowed himself to be influenced and said a couple of cuss words. He then went on to say "I guess im a cussin christian". Now based off your reply, would this be willfull or an unwillful slip that we all are capable of? Older Saints you make reference to, gave wise advise to new converts and lukewarm beleivers "either your gonna draw the world, or they're gonna draw you". To be cont...
@eyeswideopen I'm not trying to be lukewarm, or condone cussing. But in the situation of Johnathan Slocumb what he did was not Godly, but that doesn't mean that he turned his back on God or closed the door. Sometime we have to step out of the supernatural and think of the temptations that naturally our everyday lives will bring. Of course are main objective should be pureness in the eyes of the father. But just as the devil came to tempt Jesus he will forever try to attack the people of God. We will never be as holy as Christ. Life will always be a battle, I don't care how holy you claim to be or how holy you think pastor so and so is. We are flesh and God is God. That does not mean that we should attentionally act on our short comings, but because the enemy is real struggles will forever exist. What we should be doing as the people of God is going in with the armor of the Lord instead of talking against people. Because you putting your mouth on the situation instead of intercedeing can be just as harmful as that person saying the things that you are speaking against. No one is God, so no one has the right to say who is a Christian. Because if you acknowledge God then you are saved therefore you are taking responsibility for your actions and lifestyle. When you backslide you are now held accountable because you have already been warned. So Monique may know better. But thats something that she's going to have to take up with God and not any body else. God gave us the authority for him to speak through us. Not for us to act in our flesh and speak as him. So the main point is we fall short but always in the end we have to get it right, that's what being a Christian is. If the world was perfect, if there was no room for struggle, or no room for growth there would be no testimonies and no answers to breakthroughs.
@marshawn: continued (i saw your latest responce i will try to cover both inthis reply, its late :) ) back to Mr. Slocum it is clear that he was the drawn. You stated that "statements like mine is the reason unbeleivers dont want to go to church". I agree with you to a degree bcuz the word of truth is an offence to all who have itching ears that Paul spoke of. But in my opinion its this type of lukewarm, compromising in the church that is the real reason why unbeleivers have rejected the truth, also the fact that as the word warns of these days " they loved darkness rather than light John 3:19. Just becuz all of us are in different stages of our walk and relationship with God, this does not change the word and what God expects of us. Yes it is clear that we all come short including me, but it also says i can do all things thru Christ! So that means if i can beleive him for a house, a job etc, i can also beleive him to live holy! God did create Mo, but it is a lie that he is the author of her foul mouth!
Johnathan Slocumb weak,Pastor Marvin Sapp,no backbone, and all the christians that race to be on the Mo'Nique Show to promote their CD's for the glory of their bank account.BET Trash TV,Mo'Nique loud mouth, foul mouth, open marriage, using God's name in vain? Hell is not a joke,we get 1 chance,1 shot to walk through the pearly gates. Take it or leave it!
Wow...
I enjoyed the show. I gotta give monique credit, she did not cuss-until she got to jonathan slocumb. Her interview with tina and y'anna was done very nicely. Now I've been reading this blog for only a couple of days(@ ej, I enjoy your posts brother), one thing I do not enjoy however are some of these nasty comments. Now please don't take offense to what I am about to say (though I know somebody's gonna be very upset, I can feel it in my spirit) some of you all write comments tearing down these artists calling them all kinds of names, and then have the audacity( yeah the audacity) to say you're doing it jesus' name. I know yall cannot be serious?? First, just a friendly reminder, these gospel artists, human beings first, meaning they aren't always gonna be talking in toungs and shoutin, and prophecying like some of you would like to believe. These people are nowhere near perfect. Stop watchin there every move waiting(stalking!!) For the chance to blast them, and focus on your personal relationship with christ! Beacuse in the end, that's all that matters. No one and I repeat no one is walking around holy-24/7, 365. We're striving to get to that point where we can be holy all the time. Now if, you say you're holy all the time, then you're a lie and the truth is not in you(that's word). While you sittin here writing about what monique said, how much time did you spend praying that god changes her heart before you came on here to condem(yes condem) her? Who gave us the right to be so judgemental(there's a diffrence between stating your opinion and being judgemental-and some of us crossed that line a looonnggg time ago)and then we(as christians)have the nerve to wanna blame other folks for the reason that there's still folks unsaved and ignorant to god's word. Go told us to go and spread his word, but we're too scared to do that, we think that the word is only supposed to be in the church? But what about the folks who don't come to church? Why can't we go out and reach them? I honestly can't understand what is the problem when a gospel artist goes into a secular realm? As long as they are not affected or influenced by the things around them, then they are simply doing what they were meant to do.some of you are balsting jonathn slocumb like he came out there cussin with monique, after he told the story of how monique made him cuss when they first meet, and he said what he said, you took it and ran with it. You heard nothing else after that. Question: did you go in prayer when you first heard who monique was having on the show? Did you pray and ask god to word monique's toung with the right things to say? Did you pray and ask god to use the guests to speak a word into monique's life so that she can see the wrong she's doing, or did you anticipate her to be cussin so that you could come on here and blast her? Stop looking at other people's flaws and start eveluating your ownself, because they aren't perfect and neither are you. Oh and please remember that this is supposed to be a gospel blogsite, so we(including me) should spend a little bit more time trying to edify the body of christ, not destroy it. Thank you.
@ms.davia I respect your opinion, and I respect your right to speak your mind. There is a scripture Matthew 5:48 Be yea therefore perfect...(perfect in the Greek Language means Mature) Jesus never ask us to be Perfect. Only God is Perfect! Jesus ask us to act our physical age and live up to the spiritual knowledge(The Bible) that we have attain. The Word of God is our Standard of living and conduct. Maybe you can help me with the word judgement,if we are not to judge people, then how can we lead and instruct someone what is truth and what is error? What is the right path and what is the wrong path? Life is all about making the right choices, people Actions and Words speak tons of volume. A Street Walker:She dress like a stripper, and she hang out on busy corner to ply her trade,Drug Dealer:He can be a flashy dresser, drive expensive cars,he sell drugs that are illegal, the end results jail or a fancy casket. Muslim :Clean cut, suits, and bow-ties Lairs don't speak truth,a thief or a crook will rob, steal and kill. We are not to judge people according to what we see and hear? We are the light of the World,we are God spokesperson,His mouth piece. I stand by what I stated in the previous comments. Mo'Nique test Johnathan Slocumb to go against his God, his belief. This remind me of Eve and the snake in the Garden of Eden, this also remind me of Jesus being challenge by satan to bow down to him in the wilderness. Kirk Franklin, what if Kirk wife went on a Male talk show and jump in his lap, embracing a Male host, hugged up together? Do you honestly think Kirk could handle that? No! He disrespected God and his wife. Pastor Marvin Sapp, how can a Pastor allow someone to speak to him face to face, while millions are watching and tell him God said it's all right to dig in that a$$(5 times)WEAK,And NO BACK BONE ,BLACK MALES,Stand For Nothing Right,Fall for everthing Wrong! Many are called, BUT few are chosen. Matthew 22:14
@ms.davia Sweetheart, no one was talking about the "gospel artists" on that particular show. The comments on this post were ONLY about the statement made by Monique' on it. No one is judging her or anyone else, just sharing what we feel about it...and there is a complete difference between "judging" & "giving opinions". I do however understand the point you make :)
@radal and busy04: I understand the point that you both make, and I respect both of you opinions.radal, when I used the word judgement, it's like the example you gave of the streetwalker and the drug dealer-it's not our place to talk about how they dress or what they do, it's our job to encourage them. How can you get them to come to christ, when you can't get past how they look and what they do. God is not concerned with their outter appearance, but he's more interested in winning there soul, when he begins to work on them, then their physical appearance will change. My think is like everybody's goin crazy over the fact that monique cursed and said god made her this way(which was wrong), what good is it going to do to sit here and complain? If you want to help monique- go in prayer, I dare you, go in sincere prayer and ask god to clean her up, and watch him do it.you talked about what if kir's wife did what he did on a male's talk show- you're right, he probably wouldn't be cool with it,and yea tammy probably was mad and god was mad, but all you can do is pray that he doesn't do something like that on someone elses's showm now the marvin sapp thing- what would you have expected him to do? Get all mad? Remeber, that's on national television, what if he would've got up and left, what good would that have done? You don't know what could've happened during the commercial break.to call him weak was out of line(what would you have preferred him to do? Go off on her? Who would've got the glory?)Busy 04, I knew you weren't' talking about the gospel artists, I was talking about other comments I've read on this site,But someone did say that tina was a weak christian when she started talking about their book "be u". Maybe they didn't understand what she was saying, the book is to encourage one to be their best self(and the person that god intended for you to be both physically as well as spiritually.) My whole point is that I want people to realize that these gospel artists are people, they're not "perfect". Don't hold them up so high(like they can't do wrong)so that when they do(unfortunately) make a mistake, it won't hurt as much.@radal- let me give you an example of some of the judgemental comments I'm talking about: -they're out only for the all mighty dollar -they are weak christains There's a way to do and say anything-that's all I'm saying.when I came to this site, I was expecting the comments to have some constructive criticism, but some of this, it goes too far. When I read some of these comments, I was like 'I thought this was a christian blog site?' You have to always be careful of how you say things, there are new babes in christ that read these posts, and you don't want to do something or write something that could send the wrong message. Again, I understand both your points of view, and I meant no harm by my previous post.
@msdavia, blessings and thank you for joining the conversation. Unfortunately the body of Christ has fallen prey to a weapon which is being used to shout down anybody that calls someone especially leaders to accountability. The weapon i'm refering to is the word "judgement". But the word is clear that we are to judge with a righteous judgement St Jn 7:24 in other words we should test/judge all things according to the word St Jn 12:48 and not personal opinion. Based off this measuring stick where is the judgement? Now you made it clear that you had a problem with the name calling but you turn around and do a little name calling (nasty) and judging (why dont you pray for) yourself which according to the word makes you a hypocrite (to do the very thing you criticize others for). We tend to forget our Savior was a big name caller! Snakes, vipers, hypocrites, whited sepulchers etc. Paul was also a name caller using simular names all in the defence of the faith and in the name of the Lord! (cont)
@msdavia (cont): We are to be more diligent in defending the faith (not these entertainers) against anyone who especially publically says or does anything contrary, misleading or shameful to the name of Christ! You claim to be concerned about the babes that maybe reading this blog, but where is your concern for the millions of lost souls who tune in to this show and see the people of God making misleading and compromising statements? You should be just as angry at this if not more.Bottomline this time is exactly what Jesus fortold of in the last days. Right would become wrong, wrong would become right. But i still stand behind my statments (which are backed by the word). Be blessed!
@eyeswideopen: You're not defending the artists, and yes I am concerned about the lost souls who tune into the show.yes our walk should be about defending the faith-that is my main concern, and when I see artists on shows like these, I immediately begin to pray and ask god to word the artists mouths and say something so that at least one person can be effected by the love of jesus christ-that's my main concern.we as christians should begin to go in prayer for these gospel artists who go into the secular realm, not wait until after they were on the show to come here and say what they did wrong.I just feel that while everyone here claims to be defending the faith, I just wanna know how much time is spent in prayer so that lives can be changed? As far as making a compromise: you cannot compromise(the word compromise means to bargin or make a deal)you cannot compromise christ and still win souls-plain and simple; there is no inbetween, for god himself says those that are lukewarn he will spew them out of his mouth.you show me one person who lives a life that's totally against god and souls are being won, and I'll show you a liar. It just cannot be done.either you're a believer of the faith or not. Now my post was not to offend anyone, I only want people to spend more time in prayer and interceeding in prayer instead of complaining when things go wrong when a person of faith goes outside of the church. This goes wwaayy beyond this situation. We as christian should be able to go into any forum and preach the word if god with no problems-god's word is plain and simple, jesus said we would do greater works than him, but in order to do that, we must watch as well as pray, and my prayer is that we begin to lift each other up,instead of waiting until after the fact to put each other down. Again no harm in my comments-it's all love!! God bless!
@msdavia: first i want to say i love you and there is no need to explain your motives. God has blessed us thru a young man named EJ to have a place to come as beleivers to get info and express our thoughts. With that we said we haveto be perfect (mature) and understand that we all have differing veiws. But even in that, the Word must always have the final say! I thank God for your commentary which clearly shows your heart for intercession and lost souls. But if i could just ask one thing, please be careful in making blanket accussation specifically "why not pray for them". Just bcuz someone corrects someone on this blog does not mean they are not praying for them or the situation. For example those of us that have children correct them but no matter what the infraction is it doesnt stop us from praying for them. It should be no different with anyone. Lets all continue to both defend the faith and intercede for all people everywhere as the word instructs especially the lost. Blessings!
For all of you with the propencity to defend these "gospel artist" that come on this show. If you can, please intellegently and without emotion tell us how God was glorified in this episode of Monique? Shouldnt that be their main purpose anyhow?
@msdavia:I believe you are a sincere person, and that you have a loving and caring heart! My concern has nothing to do with Mo'Nique, but what trouble me the most is,WHY would a christian(Christian:Christ-Like) grace a BET negative production. Look at their track record. Ms.Davia,in my ministry I deal with youth(Age 5-12) & misguided teenagers,so maybe this will give you insight to the comments that I posted. I don't believe in ice cream and cake christians,it's okay, everything is gonna be all right! No,it's a jungle out their, people are dying, people need to know the Truth (The Holy Bible/The Word of God)and nothing but the Truth! You pray for Mo'Nique, and I will pray for my people, the inner cities (Black Crime),and my country United States(Recession).I like to target my prayers on important issues. I stand firm on my belief and my comments.
@radal and eyeswideopen: I truly believe that you both have sincere love for god,and you want to see the body of christ be better, and so do I. Radal, why shouldn't gospel aritsts go on bet? Yes I know their track record(which is very bad)but the word must go forth everywhere(including bet)before christ can return, everyone deserves a chance to learn about the love of jesus christ. I too work with the young people in my church and I do tell them of the dangers that are in the world, but I also want them to be able to minister the word of god and to be able to do it anywhere.the body of christ has a lot of work to do,we all need to come together, because there is so much division between us which causes views to be confusing to one another.when we all come together as one, and truly seek god for what he wants us to do, then and only then can we get it right. Let's just continue to pray for the body of christ as a whole and those who are not apart of the christian family, so they may soon become apart of god's family. Peace love and blessings.
@ms.davia:This is all about doing the will of God, and lifting up the name of Jesus, and glorify His Name! Misinformation can be harmful and fatal to someone who is seeking and searching for truth and what is right.Fasle teachers, gullible, innocent seeker,if you don't know what is truth(The Bible)you can be deceive and still fall short of the mark, the standard that God set before us. 12 Disciple change the world and impact many, many lifes.BET did more harm to the Black Race, flooding the spotlight on rapper and their destructive ways of life, and the way they display a Black female,Lord have mercy on us! Matthew 24:4-5 Take heed that no man deceive you.(5)For Many shall come in My name, saying, I AM CHRIST;and shall DECEIVE MANY! This is my opinion,I believe BET is a vessel that satan used to disgrace the gospel and lift up the kingdom of darkness! The gospel is too precious to be misused and abuse. Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs(someone who is unworthy or unwilling to receive the gospel message)neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.(The sinner(swine) takes the word of God(pearls)and reject it,and make fun of it. Don't waste your time with people who don't want to receive God's word! They are either not prepare or ready to receive the Gift of God which is Jesus Christ the Son of God!
