Juanita Bynum is returning to the music scene in a pretty big way. Right off the heels of a release a few weeks ago, she announced a signing/joint venture with Music World Gospel, the first offering of which is an EP entitled Soul Cry (Oh, Oh, Oh), the first in a trilogy of products, due in stores on June 22nd.
Though a widely-discussed and highly-debated topic on this blog and in Christian circles, Juanita Bynum’s ministry and reach is undeniably a force to be reckoned with– her chart-topping sales and high visibility demonstrate a loyal following of people whose lives have been significantly impacted by what she’s doing.
For your listening pleasure, I’ve just added her newest single, “Soul Cry (Oh, Oh, Oh)” to the PunditPlayer.
At first listen, I wasn’t really feelin’ it. But I’ll be doggoned if I didn’t find myself singing “oh, oh, oh” while I was pouring my coffee this morning…
It’s catchy!

Who is she talking/singing to? Avoid this if you're depressed. Yikes! LOL!
Ooooh my!
I am not the one to judge but I am not feeling the cd over, it seems like she is trying to reach the secular market. I use to love her in the beginning in her ministry, but I am not feeling the new transformation. As far as the song, not feeling it, I want to hear some traditional songs.
I think she is b n true about how she is feeling or was feeling. I like the transparency!
@Tam Tam: Your warning is in line with my reaction. I kept waiting for her to arrive at an ending, a place where most artists express how God delivered them. To much disappointment, the endless chanting of "OH OH OH" just got louder and higher. People, this technique can not be used in a song like this unless there is a feeling of genuine hope at the end. The entire song just made me think that whatever state of pain she expressed just got worse. Whenever I have to ask if the song is in the gospel category, I simply can't enjoy it. I also think that her voice should be placed with compelling lyrics and more creativity like "One Night with the King". It was missing something like, "I'll wait on you Jesus..rift rift.rift..Jesus.. You healed so many times before" ......Then she should have called on a witness. Someone with some vibrant energy and talent right now like Isaac Caree, Bebe Winans, or J. Moss. *I am not making a joke or being sarcastic. I am serious. This could have been beautiful with the right supporting elements at the right time. Maybe it is not too late for that.
I feel it is a forced-It just not time yet and it comes through in the song..
EJ! Why am I imagining you pouring coffee with your eyes closed and head back like Charlie Brown then the Oh-Oh-Oh turns into an Ow-Ow-Ow because you poured coffee on your bare feet in the kitchen! LOLOL! Random thought..ok sorry..I have many skit scenarios in my head. But back to the song...Hmmmm interesting...I like the modulations but I find myself raising my eyebrows each time as my ears are anticipating.."Is she gonna get up there this time!??? :- O
lol @ TamTam and Katydids comments....cracking up But on a serious note Juanita isnt a singer she's a worshipper and you dont need the most amazing voice to do a worship album so far as there is the annointing you're fine...BUT on a song like this maaaaaaaan you need to have a good voice which um I just discovered (after listening to this song) Juanita doesnt have. And like Katydid mentioned on a track like this you need to riff and adilib and just take the song to another level vocally other than that its really blaaaaaaaaaand. The album cover makes me feel a bit uncomfortable tooooo ....
pass.... i'm tired of the "when you have nothing to say, you just say OH" Who actually does that in real life? LOL You get an unexpected bill in the mail and you can't afford it, do you say, OH...OH OH OH? LOL Just joking.... artistic license.
She sounds like Helen Baylor on this track. Unfortunetly, this isn't the only song that is targeted to stir the emotions of people. "Never Would Have Made It" & "The Best In Me"
Bynum is certainly not one of the gospel's best singers but I still have enjoyed some of her music. However, this song, not so much. I know it's supposed be serious but I went into a fit of laughter as I heard her sing "oh, oh, oh" in the chorus line. I'm sorry. I'll just keep playing her song "Don't Mind Waiting" -- now THAT'S a good cut.
lol thats hilarious!!
*Yawn* This is the second time that I've listened to this song. And I had hoped that just maybe the next time I heard it, I would feel much better about it. But unfortunately I am still stuck with the same bland feeling as the first time. I'll continue playing the " Piece of My Passion" record.
ummmmm NO NO NO Noooooooooooooooooo!!! I will stick with Juanita's "You'll Never Thirst"...that message ministers to me sooooooo.... soooo soooo soooo!! Just becuz "Soul Cry" it doesn't minister to me, it may be for someone else.
Where was Myron Butler when she recorded this travesty?
I meant Myron Williams...but seriously where was he? This producer obviously couldn't cover the fact Bynum isn't a strong singer.
Y'all made me scurrrrrrred to listen...but I just did. And...ummm... Is it just me...or are of few of the Oh's in some of those modulations just under what the note should be? And at one of the last few modulations, did I hear her almost suck down the hangy ball in the back of her throat? Mr. Producer, you've got some explaining to do...
NOW....I am the BIGGEST Juanita Bynum Fan that lives on this planet....and I MUST ADMIT im NOT feeling the new song....in my opinion not a good lead single for this BIG RETURN. Im also a little uneasy about the CD Cover....I really like the "More Passion" CD...but i never was big on her singing....BUT SHE CAN PREACH ME UNDER THE NEW ANYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GOTTA GIVE IT TO HER SHE CAN PREACH......but this new song gets a NO in my book.....
CORRECTION: SHE CAN PREACH ME UNDER THE *PEW ANYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#DEAD - the hangy ball in the back of her throat. Somebody send a paramedic right now to get that fur ball out of her. This song is not the greatest song of Juanita's. However people will buy her cds, her name is the brand and people flock to that no matter how the project sounds. Who produced this anyway? (everybody start staring now at M. Knowles).
v4c, I REFUSE to deal with you behind "the hangy ball in the back of her throat" phrase! LOLLLLLLL!!!! That's hilarious!
I had stop it before the end...No ma'am. That is all And let me find out with this new comment format, my original username (Relationship Over Religion) is now too long...I need to speak to management! LOL
LMBO! I don't even blame her. The producer should've made her sing that part again. I'm telling y'all...the flatfest begins at about 3 minutes and the hangy ball goes down at about 3:40, lol. Tell me I'm lying? LOL...I dare ya!
LOL @ you SOOOO hard. Sorry for your original username... I actually like ROR more anyhow. :-)
you mean Myron Williams...She gave him her label "Flow Records" and he is now the CEO of Flow Records and is about to release his album...now that is what you need to be looking out for, bc that album is gonna be BANANAS!!!!
I didn't buy his whole CD but "I Was Made to Worship" gets constant play on my iPod. I like the old, rough, live version better...cause one of the background singers gave up some MAJOR adlibs and runs during the worship break...MAN! That song takes me right to the throne room!
Time out, y'all: in all seriousness, the BIG FAIL of this song (IMHO) is not JB's voice, the production quality, etc. I think JB has a decent voice and she's made some great gospel music ministry in the past: One Night With the King, You Are My Peace, and You Are Holy are standouts for me. In this case, it's the MESSAGE! Isn't gospel music supposed to be about the MESSAGE? The message of the GOSPEL? What gospel message is she trying to convey? Like a few folk have said upthread: where's the hope in this song? Where's the instruction to, after the lament, to reflect on those things that the Lord has brought you through? I get it to this point as someone mentioned upthread as well: when our hearts are full of lamentation, maybe this song is how that lamenting sounds. I mean, we all know how to throw a great pity party. I don't need any extra help there. Ok, fine. But then isn't the message of the music (the gospel) supposed to remind us about who the Lord Jesus Christ is and that He is able to make a way, or at least help us through the trial?
That part probably comes on the next track, Tam Tam, lol. Right where you are, sing the "Oh Oh Oh" part, imagine a short chord transition, and freestyle right into the hope....right into the help! Works right?! lol... I'm almost positive it's on the next track...
"It’s catchy!" it's...something. catch isn't the word i would have used though. *looks away*
Yes indeed she does sound like Helen Baylor. But I would listen to Helen Baylor over this anyday. In fact Helen Baylor was the first artist I listened to. Back to the song, here lead vocals arent that good for this song. And what is the purpose of "Oh" "Oh" "Oh" ? If anything in those situations you should be calling "Jesus" "Jesus" "Jesus" thats where the power is. Is a yelling match and the keys? I mean come on are you joking? I wonder where the minds of people arewhen they create music. Its not about money but sound good while your singing please lol.
I hope there's something to redeem this 'cause um...this right here? Sigh.... LOL!
HORRID!
NO!
"Oh, Oh, Oh" Noooo!
Tam Tam, you are pouring too much Theology onto this post! We can't get past the main presentation of the song in order to receive the message or even try to apply what we think we hear. It's okay to say... This is a bad record! The vocal isn't crisp, some said there are flat notes during the modulation etc... It's okay Tam Tam, it's okay, to thumbs down this track!
I don't like her singing. Never did & I doubt I ever will. Good production though !! mhm..
oh and I call this a Nephilim Spirit Song.. lol (insider)
If you felt that way why even comment!! I think it's unfair to make a comment about someone when you dont even like their singing when you for stated " I don't like her singing. Never did & I doubt I ever will. (just Unfair to me)
Forgive me, I cringed. I will listen again to see if it's easier on my ear...
ok maybe a little better, but i need more "something"... it's probably better in a live worship setting. on a positive note, good for her branching out and forging forward...hopefully there will be some stronger pieces released...
I Love This song It Has touch My soul Thank U
WOW! There should be a warning on the CD cover "Not for the emotionally unstable!" OH!
This song should never have been released. I feel bad for her. Compared to her other music, this is not it. And, what is the final message of this song from a prophetess to the nations? Sometimes just cry "oh"? What you gonna do? Hello: JESUS!
No matter how you feel about the song positive or negative is plain cruelty at someone elses expense the best way to express constructive criticism. If we are christian lets demonstrate it in our actions and intentions. ......
Juanita is a great woman and I love her music! I watched a recent video interview (http://bit.ly/azAY8g) and found out a few other things I wasn’t aware of about her. Really looking forward to the album!
So has it been determined if Soul Cry was actually written by Juanita or not? According to reports the song was stolen from J.E. Jones. What's the truth??
