What I DO Know As It Relates To Bishop Eddie Long

I was working on a fancy post about the allegations surrounding Bishop Eddie Long (read them at CNN.com if you want to).

I mean, it was gonna be a REALLY good post (if I can say so, myself) about grace and prayer, and our need to stand on the promises of God and defend the Gospel.  And how we need to pray against the enemy–whether the allegations are true or false– so that our brothers and sisters in the Faith wouldn’t waiver or be deterred, and so that unbelievers wouldn’t have an opportunity to mock the Truth of Jesus Christ.

And I still believe all of that firmly.  But I don’t want to waste words on the bottomline– it is time to pray.

So, that’s all I know as it relates to Bishop Eddie Long… prayer is needed.  Prayer for him, for the young men involved, for Bishop Long’s family, for his church, and for the Body of Christ at large.

Just pray.  Pray.

Amen...we must not be so quick to judge. Imagine if the saints were quicker to cover in prayer and interceed rather than judge!! Praying for all individuals involved.

I tweeted the same thing this morning. No matter whether the allegations are true or not, we need to pray healing and forgiveness for everyone involved.

I heard about the news, I pray that God will mold him in his image and he repents. We as Christians, can`t be so judgmental and pray for things like this.

Well praying is good. But if this did happen its just the Bible being forfilled. There is nothing hiddin that will not be will revealed.

Sometimes we give "the enemy" too much credit.... The Bible admonishes us to pray without ceasing. I pray for the TRUTH to prevail...whatever the TRUTH is, that it prevails.

Speaking in general...At what point do we stop "covering" mess & people, and allow the covers to be pulled off to reveal truth? I find "our" church covers so much, further perpetuating hinderances.

In situations like this it is soooo needed. The things that are going on are sadly what goes on everyday in the Gospel Community, Musically and Ministry. NO ONE WANTS TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT! Stirring all day way back to James Cleveland, its like everybody uses prayer as a shield. Thats the way to keep whats really going on hush, at least thats what those who are scared to discuss it say. Yet, were so open to exposing everything else and everybody else! You have these Ministers going on these Anti Gay rants but their leading double lifestyles! It truly hurts me, I know what these kids are going through. I posted this same statement at a different blog: As I get older I have become more aware of the things that are going on in the Black Gospel community. When I was younger I always looked up to these man, naive to thinking that they could do any wrong. But my eyes are opening, the double lifestyles and hypocritical things that they are doing truly hurts me... I think you would have had to grow up around these people and in the church to understand. So many struggle to find themselves...Me personally... To have these preachers preying on young man only screws them even further. The things I have seen, naively took part in, and heard has only distance me further from what we know as religion. Instead I've just kept a relationship with God. I have found one minister that I truly look up to and believe in.... I don't put him on a pedestal... but I believe in him. I just say to any parent out there really WATCH whats going on because the church is very messy. I can truly admit that the church screwed my ways of thinking, but I believe that God is changing me now. Still I'm very bothered to hear this......

I'm sad, but not surprised because I read somewhere that the righteous do fall. Nevertheless, we live in a society where you are guilty until proven innocent. The truth will be revealed in a court of law so I will pray and wait. Question, why is it that whenever gay behaviour is discussed in the "black gospel community", everybody's favorite poster boy is James Cleveland as if he is the alpha of this behaviour. I could have sworn I read about this behaviour in the bible, BC (Before Cleveland)....LOL. Seriously folks, we are living in the last days, so we need to check ourselves, pay attention and make our election and calling is sure! Lift up the Trumpet and Loud Let It Ring, Jesus Is Coming Again!!!!!

Please PRAY. Let's just PRAY!!! For everyone involved and the entire body of Christ. This warfare is real! 1 Corinthians 12: 26: And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

  • Mia_v4c wrote on September 22, 2010

Praying. Let truth prevail. I've got a feeling this is only the beginning of this. It's only Day 2! May the Lord strengthen our faith in Him and guard our hearts in the coming days and weeks of this unfolding drama...

  • tai wrote on September 22, 2010

all involved needs to be lifted up in prayer. The church has to come to a point to where it confronts and tackle issues such as homosexuality and other struggles with LOVE and Compassion instead of sending everybody to hell to which we have no control over. I'm sure most people that find themselves in a struggle does not like being in it and wants so badly to find a way out but the way that leads to getting out is blocked by some Christians who makes it so hard to see Jesus by there actions.

  • Kevin G wrote on September 22, 2010

I’m not advocating prayer to "cover" sin, I am praying that if the Bishop is guilty for God to give him strength to suffer the consequences for his action and allow healing to come in his life. If he's is innocent, then I am praying for the truth to be revealed and that God will show grace and mercy to those who have accused him.

  • sam wrote on September 22, 2010

That's a strong testimony. I'm glad you stuck with the Lord. Jesus Christ is the only way. We all need to stop looking at man and get to know God for ourselves.

  • Marshawn wrote on September 23, 2010

I feel that just like Bishop Eddie Long and so many others took it upon themselves to rally outside of the church at anti Gay events, so should the church rally for the innocent victims who are being preyed on and taken advantage of. Yes, I know some people give in willingly, but a lot of teens and especially children don't know any better. If theres vultures in the church just waiting to get them (Which there is) then this issue needs to be tackled NOW! Yes prayer is needed but at the same time actions also need to be taken and the issue NEEDS to be exposed. Stop covering it because its happening. And these Minister aren't just going after grown man, their going after the young too. This needs to be exposed and I honestly think that this is a sign from God.

MY QUESTIONS IS WHAT ABOUT THESE BOYS.......HOW ABOUT WE PRAY FOR THEM TOO????????? EVERYONE IS PROTECTING EDDIE LONG LIKE ITS JUST NOT POSSIBLE AT ALL FOR HIM TO HAVE A FLESHLY DESIRE AS SUCH. LETS PRAY FOR THESE BOYS AND THEIR FAMILIES NAME THAT THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE LINE FOR COMING FORTH WITH SUCH A STORY IF IT IS TRUE. yEA LETS PRAY FOR BISHOP BUT THERE IS MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED THAN EDDIE LONG AND HIS 25,000 MEMBER FLOCK.......PEOPLE LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE.

  • busy04 wrote on September 23, 2010

Will be praying...for EVERYONE involved & for the church as a whole.

We are ceratinly in the last days& the Devil is doing over time.Let us all pray for the Body of Christ. Let the truth be known in this situation. EJ...you were surely missed.

  • AMB wrote on September 24, 2010

No matter how you look at, situations like these have been around since the old testament. King David comes to mind, when he committed adultry and murdered Basheeba's husband. In the end God judged, punished, forgave, restored, and redeemed him. David is looked at in most circles other than Jesus as the standard barer of living right. We forget he fell so many times, but His relationship with God never wavered. My thing is 1 we can not touch God's anointed, and 2 God will be just...he would never let sin come to forefront without 1st giving opportunity for repentance...

  • Marshawn wrote on September 24, 2010

I think everybody is missing the bigger picture. Yes, if it is true Eddie Long does need to repent, but guess what he knows better. We need to be focusing on the ones that don't really know what they are doing, that don't really understand what they are taking part in. Thats the bigger picture. Not Eddie Long. I'm done talking bout this, lol.

  • Katydid wrote on September 24, 2010

These stories I'm hearing about Eddie Long are just as bad as those tight body shirts he has been wearing......for years! I know some may have a problem with that statement, but even people who do not believe in God will tell you that what a person wears can tell what they want to portray or reveal. If I walk into a church and the pastor or speaker has on a skin tight top like that, I would laugh and leave immediately. It is true that we all need to pray, but you have to WATCH as well as pray. That statement is in the bible as well. Any leader with loads of money and that many connections with openly sinful artists and political figures indicates trouble. I have a collection of movies about churches and cults with this type of setup. *People will have to do more than pray. Follow leaders who follow Christ and keep your eyes open at all times.

  • yvonne s. wrote on September 25, 2010

I believe need to pray more for our leaders and ourselves than never before but we just don't know if the enemy is around the corner to take us down, so we need to stay humble and obey the voice of the Lord and to be careful for nothing & always pray for everthing as well as everybody who is keeping in contact with you.

  • RoR wrote on September 27, 2010

although the devil is real, i think people too often use him as a scapegoat for their lack of responsibility, accountability, and knowing right from wrong. we put so much focus on what the devil is doing and too little on what we did to help our demise. the church speaks of transparency and honesty, but only when it doesn't involve them fessing up to their own wrong-doing.

  • Lisa D wrote on September 27, 2010

It's really praying time because the end are surely being fulfilled.... We must pray for all leaders even our president that Christ will give wisdom and knowledge to lead his people. We must understand and know what the reality is in this day and time. We must be real and not phony with things hidden and pushed under the rug but be real with yourself and God. I know the word reminds us that there is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed and there is nothing cover that shall not be uncover... So let us pray seek God like never before because scarcely the rightous man shall make it in.

Just as a random side note, because it keeps being dropped like its the answer and remedy to this problem, We have been in the "last days" since the NT was sealed within the Cannon (see Scripture)! The fact that everyone is coming down on Eddie Long (NOT THE CHURCH JUST HIM) doesn't point to this New Revelation of the last days.... Eddie operating outside of wisdom in simply not appealing to accountability has gotten himself into this... not the Devil... just Eddie. It's not the "last days" fault either. Just Eddie's.... When we as everyday Christians with smaller churches than 25,000 people, or no churches at all, mess up and get in trouble it's not an ATTACK on the church... it's simply just sin and a lapse in judgement. The same is true here. What doesn't come out in the Rinse will come out in the Wash... and it won't be the fault of the "last day". I personally believe Mr. Last Day gets a bad rap. This is all on Eddie and the New Birth Corporation... My random two cents!
