Is It Just Me: None Like Hezekiah Walker & LFC

Is it just me, or is the music that Hezekiah Walker & Love Fellowship puts out kinda like… unparalleled in contemporary choir music?

When you survey all the hits over the past decades, I can’t think of any choir with as much GREAT music.  I can listen to EVERY song on EVERY album and be completely content… no, GIDDY about how good it is.

I think you’re my fave, Hezekiah Walker. :-)

Is it just me?

I feel the same way about Ricky Dillard. His last few projects are getting better and better.

Hez, surrounds himself with some of the best NYC musicians around. Thus, that New York City Groove!!

I love Hez and LFC. My first choice is Richard Smallwood, but I love Hez. I have every project since the 80's and they keep getting better and better.

@ Brenda I have to agree with Richard Smallwood. Some of his more classical songs, between his playing and their singing. Blessing!

Hez is the man and one point every church was singing his songs in there choir and John P kees for praise and worship. And of course let us not for get it was hez who changed the way we do shoutin music aka praise break although he got it from RD he put it on the Map and now everyone has to have a siginature praise break.. Im gonna sit down and shut my mouth but sometimes I feel in my spirit He-Kot.... lol

What is crazy I was listening to the old Hez cds, and then I came across the article. I am probably going to get thumbs down for the next comment but I don't think his music is getting better. I think his older cds were more innovative than the last few cds that came out. Maybe because the last few cds kinda sound like every other contemporary choir cd. Don't get me wrong I like his current cds but I think I am trapped in the 1989-1995 period when you would have to rush out and get the new Hez cd because you knew you were going to hear something new and original.

Vintage Hez is the BEST to me! EJ, did you (or anyone) by any chance get to hear the LFCC Reunion Choir at Bishop Moales' memorial musical?? I don't know what the stream sounded like, but I was there, and I will tell you, those LFCC old heads sang for points!! (SPECIAL PROPS TO THAT SOPRANO SECTION!! MY MY MY!!) I think old LFCC had a little more grittyness than they currently have now, but you're right about the songs. I can usually listen to an entire cd without stopping....there is probably one cd of theirs that I can't do that out of all of the ones over the years, crusade choir and church choir. LOVED the latest cd.

Hahaha I knew it wouldn't take long. Time for a poll, Old School Hez vs New School Hez.

  • Drew wrote on October 22, 2010

"old LFCC had a little more grittyness" I like that comment. So true. Just to clarify before I get 100 thumbs down, I like new Hez too but if I had a choice I prefer old school Hez.

Over the years they have gotten better and better. Now they sound SO controlled. Their sound is second TO NONE!

  • Jas wrote on October 23, 2010

It just seems like the "old school" albums just had tons of hits on them!! I mean one album had 7-10 songs that choirs would just run with! I love those old shcool Hez & LFCC albums!! Man!

Hez definitely had that "New York Groove" and those bass lines are legendary. And he could keep you changing keys for days!!!! Although Donald Lawrence has produced the last two cd's, Hez was able to still keep that New York Groove undiluted.Thats what makes those projects special. Awesome for a guy that just wanted an outlet....

LOL....did I mention that Monique sang w/ the reunion choir, and led "Let the Glory"??? That was an extra added bonus!
