Mali Music Asks Supporters To Stop Leaking Music

Mali Music recently posted a YouTube video asking his supporters to stop posting unreleased music on the internet.  He jokingly (but kinda seriously) warns– “you’re goin’ to jail!” LOL

The clip, titled “We Need To Talk,” features his sister, K.P., as the calm voice of reason.  They’re hilarious, but it is a rather serious subject, and a fair request.

This video actually raises an interesting side-topic about how the supporters of an underground artist should behave once he gains more mainstream attention.  Undoubtedly, Mali’s fanbase grew because of viral word-of-mouth, but there’s probably a time and season for that and our behavior probably needs to shift a bit as his ministry and exposure grows.  *shrugs*

Check out  the clip–

What do you think???

So... how would supporters get access to unreleased music? Is he chastising the wrong people (his supporters)? Does he have some untrustworthy folk on his staff who are releasing this unreleased music to the internet? Or this video a phony rant to simply generate publicity?

I agree with Tam. Let's face it, if people get there hands on some music they are gonna upload it, even though it's wrong. Now the real problem is the "friends" that he's giving his music 2....that's the issue.

LOL. Who leaking the music tho? Hehe

I agree w/ Luda & Tam. Leaks don't naturally come from the "supporter/listener" on the outside. I believe the "friends/inside people" are the real issue! Be careful with your friends, AND watch your engineers & producers...

Think of it this way... In the clip, KP stated that the songs that are being leaked were old. Mali hasnt been in the game long at all. The same situation happened to a friend of mine. A track that he let a few ppl hear (via email) years ago is now on the internet. Im not against Mali at all. He didnt say the SUPPORTERS WHO HEARD THE SONG... He said, WHOEVER you are, stop posting unreleased music. That includes everyone! EXCLUDING NO ONE! KP also said that the youtube name is linked to ppl's facbook pages so... Uhm! They arent bashing the supporters at all! I think this blog is unnecessary!

I think it says something about the artist. watch those who are around you then you wont have to worry about a leak. As far as music is concerned be happy that some people want to listen to your music because some of this music today is not worth listening to.

Exactly, why would people pay for something that is free? C`mon now everything is on youtube noawadys, I mean not just music but movies as well.

I'm sorry but it sounds like he's crying to me (wahh.wahh). I need some sound affects. Ok, maybe I'm a little cranky it is 1:46 am. :)-

If someone took your tracks illegally and distributed them on youtube, that's stealing. If you emailed it out yourself, it's fair game. Sorry.

At the end of the day fans are hungry for good music. He might want to take the format some secular artist take. Kanye for a while was doing a music Friday where he released or preview different tracks. As for tracks leaking, I agree with some of the earlier comments that don't reach out on twitter and bash your fans. Talk to who's in your camp and deal wit it in house

Lol! I must say the video is funny. I think the video wasn't intended to bash his fans but to let anyone know that if you have access to unreleased music by any upcoming artist don't leak it. You can hurt their business negotiations. I pray that the fans won't be offended by the video, but maybe you all are right he should just talk to those people directly. You don't want to harm your fanbase MALI!

I say, check your camp before you check the outsiders... overall the vid is kinda funny though (slightly long-winded), but funny.

Interesting feed back. As an artist and a fan I don't have a problem with it. In all honesty when music is posted by "insiders" or people in his "camp" who is the first ones to listen to it and repost/retweet/upload it after? "the fans", so lets be real. Although part of it is a issue with his inner circle the rest of the issue is fans. And I as a fan I'm not offended by the video because he mentions whoever has access to the music. If you feel offended or upset maybe you should stay off limewire and buy some CD (if you can't say amen just say ouch! hahahahaha)

What's up with all the screaming and the head twirling and wrist action?! What he's saying is true and his music is good but all that drama is killing me, I can't even concentrate! I won't go any further as I'm learning to tame my tounge.

I dont understand his reason for posting this. He stated the issue at the beginning of the vid. HE sent it to ppl, who's opinion, he values. I'm an aspiring artist myself and I don't let anyone hear what I'm doing. Truth of the matter is, when you're good at what you do, ppl are genuinely excited about it and want to share and be the first to put ppl on to it. I believe it may have just started from HIM being excited about what he was doing and giving it to someone, be it fam or friends, they got excited and shared it..... and there you go! It's that easy. The person he should start pointing the finger at is "SELF". I still enjoy his music but he needs the "talkin" to.
