Word Has It: Details On Celebration Of Gospel Emerging

Word has it that BET is putting together the finishing touches for the 2011 Celebration of Gospel, which will be taped in Los Angeles next Saturday, December 11th.  A preliminary list of performers has been announced and the line-up looks promising!

Viewers can expect to see– Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Kim Burrell, Dr. Bobby Jones, James Fortune & FIYA, VaShawn Mitchell, Smokie Norful, Earnest Pugh, The Rance Allen Group, Beverly Crawford.

Also on tap is Jessica Reedy, Kelly Price, & Faith Evans (sounds like a little “Troubled World” on the horizon?), El DeBarge (this is how a comeback is DONE) and Chaka Khan.

In addition to some special tributes to Walter Hawkins and Albertina Walker, there are a few more artists still being added to the line-up.

What do you think of the roster so far?

I love the line up so far, but I want to see Karen perform. Also I wonder why they never get Tarralyn ramsey? that woman is anointed, I want to see some new people perform.

  • sheliaadms wrote on November 30, 2010

I would love to see Pastor Marvin Winans perform.

  • dovey wrote on November 30, 2010

I like this lineup a lot! I am glad to see Beverly Crawford finally a part of the lineup :-)

Considering we have so many talented gospel artists, why do we have Jessica Reedy, Kelly Price, Faith Evans, El DeBarge and Chaka Khan in the mix?

  • Raven wrote on December 1, 2010

This is a nice line up but I agree with some of the earlier post that Karen Clark Sheard is needed on this roster.

  • Courtney wrote on December 1, 2010

@Ashley...HOLLIN' AND ON THE FLO!! LOL

  • Barbara wrote on December 1, 2010

The line up is looking good, but where is this years "Sunday Best" LeAndria Johnson????

  • tyree dangerfield wrote on December 1, 2010

i'd like to see the anointed pace sisters/lashun pace apart of a COG...i don't think they've never appear on the show...

  • Christina wrote on December 1, 2010

BET has said plenty of times that they are honoring Gospel Music not the artist and that there are plenty of secular artist that love gospel music just as much and it would be wrong to exclude them.

  • Honestly wrote on December 1, 2010

You don't consider Jessica Reedy a gospel artist? I agree with your point though. There are way too many gospel artists for the show to have a lot of secular artists, or even the same gospel artists year after year... And yes, Karen should be on this line-up! lol I wonder if Chaka will do the song she did on Richard Smallwood's last project? I actually liked that song...

I must agree with Barbara, great lineup but if Le'Andria Johnson isn't there something is definitely wrong!!! What's up with that???

  • flm wrote on December 1, 2010

What about Donnie McClurkin, LeAndria Johnson, Karen Clark, Marvin Sapp and John P. Kee

  • Fredric wrote on December 1, 2010

Well, then, BET is silly! That's like having a Celebration of Hip-Hop led by gospel and reggae artists who appreciate hip-hop. (Giving side-eye) Right! NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR THAT! (getting off soap box...)

  • Sammygmd wrote on December 1, 2010

Leandria Johnson, and please, please PLEASE have Fred Hammond and John P. Kee sing They That Wait live!!!!!! lol

  • ebonisun wrote on December 1, 2010

    LOL Fredric!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU BARBARA!!!!! WHERE IS LEANDRIA?? YEP ALL CAPS!

We go through this every year with COG, BET is trying to please THEIR audience and boost ratings for their network. Some of the people that ya'll are mentioning may not be known to their audience so they have to find a way to draw them in to the show. And their not goning to do that with some of the names ya'll just mentioned. I wish they would stop letting Kirk, Mary Mary, and Bobby Jones be up there every year but that's what draws in their audience, becuase those are the artist that they are most familar with. If BET wanted to draw the gospel fan base they would go through the year and see which artist where hot during the year and put them on the show. But they're not trying to draw us in like that.

OMG HOW CAN THEY FORGET VANESSA BELL ARMSTRONG & GOOD NEWS? That was a big song this year.

  • dovey wrote on December 1, 2010

tyree, i know how you feel but i think they had been on COG once before

  • LeAndriaJno1FAN wrote on December 1, 2010

I don't wanna lose my religion over this Gospel Show but SERIOUSLY, I'm not understanding. You have BET and A GOSPEL CELEBRATION and no 2010 Sunday Best 3 Winner Le'Andria Johnson? Something about that does not add up. I love Jessica but didn't Y'Anna win and doesn't she have a CD out? BET you have gotta get it together...GET Le'Andria Johnson on the program or I will not be tuning in!

  • amazing wrote on December 1, 2010

Don't care for LeAndria...but what about Donnie,Karen Mavin Sapp John P ...wont watch if they are not included.

  • meme wrote on December 1, 2010

Where is Donnie...wont be watching if he is not included.

  • Courtney wrote on December 1, 2010

    Oh wow!

  • De'mond wrote on December 1, 2010

Just a thought, maybe Le'Andria is already booked for something else. I know her schedule has been really crazy with a lot of dates.

  • Drew wrote on December 1, 2010

I seriously doubt people are tuning in to COG to see Bobby Jones, lol. Then again I want to see if Bobby is going to wear garbage (literally) again for his performance this year.

  • Drew wrote on December 1, 2010

I am amused that people are shocked that gospel artist a & b are not invited to this edition of COG or any previous COG. Why are we surprised? COG is like Stellar awards same old story every year.

  • Christina wrote on December 2, 2010

    LOL!

  • Tam wrote on December 2, 2010

You know what? This explanation helps me to understand BET's purpose of this show now. It really does.... See, I thought the point was that it was trying to actually be a gospel show. Based on this explanation, it's not trying to do that at all. It also confirms what I keep saying: one does not have to (be required to) be "saved" to sing a gospel song. Anybody can PRAISE the Lord. Everyone can't WORSHIP Him, however. I suppose they should stop trying to make it a spiritual/religious service like some of the so-called "gospel" artists try to do.

  • amazing wrote on December 2, 2010

I would love to see Donnie McClurkin and Rance Allen....Wont watch if they are absent.

  • Barbara wrote on December 2, 2010

Thanks so much for add Le'Andria. I'll make sure all my friends and family are watching!

  • amazing wrote on December 2, 2010

Sorry..Rance Allen will be there but no Donnie ...still will not be watching!!!

  • dovey wrote on December 2, 2010

That just goes to show you can't please everybody all the time!

  • Jay wrote on December 2, 2010

Dagg and here ithought we were gonna see somebody new like earnest pugh...SMH Steve Harvey tired..

  • RoR wrote on December 3, 2010

Ya'll questioning BET's decisions for the show...Since when has BET made good sense? Go ahead I'll wait.....

  • RoR wrote on December 3, 2010

By the way...they are releasing the names of new performers sporadically. So your "favorite" may very well be in attendance. They was just trying to build up anticipation (*snooze*)

  • Tam wrote on December 3, 2010

Respectfully, Rance Allen is ENOUGH reason to watch! (wink & smile!)

  • T.T. wrote on December 3, 2010

That is SHO' NUFF the truth!!!!!!!!!! Would LOVE to see her perform again!!

  • T.T. wrote on December 3, 2010

Oh really??? GREAT to hear!!! I definitely look forward to watching. :-)

Well Tam Tam.....Praise The Lord...Donnie is now in the line up.Went to BET and saw his name. NOW...I'll be watching in the front row seat :).Without Donnie its not the full package.

Donnie is now on board....I will be in the front row seat watching:)

  • BDS wrote on December 4, 2010

Celebration of gospel (little "g" offered for emphasis)..... laughable at BEST. Same list every year because these guys are the ONLY people that the BET audience knows... Also I've never understood why the ONE night that "gospel" music is given... has to be dominated or overshadowed rather, by people who get to appear on BET 20 hours a day and 6 1/2 day a week (the other half is sunday mornings that are given to "gospel" music)... but even that 1/2 day has slowly been taken over by "none gospel" artist thanks to Mr. Corey and L.E.V. <-- I'll take old Gerard back any day! But ultimately we're NOT thinking logically when it comes to BET's COG.... It would be asking too much of those who thrive off selling units of unrighteousness to actually give some credit to those on the other side of the spectrum and believe that they (the "gospel" artist) can carry the show all by themselves... IT'S ONLY FOR ONE NIGHT FOR GOODNESS SAKES! I stopped being shocked by BET and the joke that is the COG a LOOOONG time ago...

I watched this year's telecast and it was a complete snoozefest. I hope they finally add Tarralyn Ramsey in 2012.
