I'm promised I'm not being mean but who is Patti Griffin?
Yes who is Patti Griffin? Surprised Marvin Sapp didn't win though.
I surely thought VaShawn Mitchell was going to win...oh well *shrug*
I personally don't understand how they award the Grammy's. Marvin Sapp & VaShawn Mitchell have had the number one songs for about the entire year and I don't understand how they didn't win their categories. I also agree, who is Patty Griffin? I don't even recall a song by her. I guess it's not based on record sales.....It's based on the influence of the record company. They really missed it this year. I pray uncommon favor to those that didn't win the Grammy.
They shouldn't put gospel rock and gospel rap in the same category smh
*I Sorry for the typo!
I guess this is the question of the hour!!!! Who IS PATTY GRIFFIN????? I'm not very excited with the winners.
The Grammy Process: << ;https://www2.grammy.com/grammy_awards/voting/Default.aspx>> Final Voting Final-round ballots are sent to voting members in good dues standing. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included in this ballot. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight (8) of the 29 fields. Ballots again are tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Deloitte. Results Results of members' voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.
I'm guessing the majority of the people who vote are looking for familiarity of names, without having any contact with the actual recording themselves. This surely is the only way this can be explained. For example... Gungor, Lecrae and David Crowder all had QUALITY albums this year and have been more effective in the genres than Switchfoot (who since FOREVER has said again and again they are NOT a Christian Band)... one would think they should give their award back to the Grammy association, since they want so whole-heartedly to not be associated with the genre in which they won. Biggest CeCe fan right here... but their album and that song were subpar to say the least. It was a disappointment and it would seem they both knew coming together would equate to album sales and awards... which it did. None of which were all that warranted. I am NOT a big "black gospel fan" but He Wants It All was one of the most creative singles of the year and should have been awarded as such. The Grammy's, as far as the gospel categories go, are as irrelevant as the Stellar Awards. I LOVE Lecrae's take on it, over on his blog/website... It's not about the wins, it's about bringing the message to a dying world. He noted that the dying world also looked like some of his fellow "gospel" artist who were trying to hard to fit in with the artist he was trying to reach.... Just praying hearts were touched. Because that's what it's all about.
Who is this Patti Griffin character? (Lost). I'm sorry but Vashawn Mitchell deserved that grammy. Lecrea had the number one rap album for how many weeks? Topped Lil Wayne & a bunch of other artist, should have won. They were so not in the spirit this year
Congrats to Bebe & Cece and to Israel!! Not sure about the rest....
okay everyone is asking who patty griffin is. she is NOT a gospel singer. she is more of a folk alternative country singer who recorded a traditional gospel album.
Im not just saying this because im a huge BeBe & Cece fan, but yes their album wasnt what was expexted but as far as "Grace" goes, its a brilliant song. Its just a big epic song so I understand why it won in its category.
I agree--uncommon favor over their lives!!
Most do not know Patty but she has been around since the early 90's. Although she is not known in the black gospel music circles, she can flat sing. She's definitely put her time in in the industry and it paid off for her last night. The Grammy's are not about who had the top songs of the year from the consumers standpoint, nor is it about album sales, ticket sales, radio play, song popularity, etc. It's all comes down to who can get the most votes. What was more confusing to me than Patty's Grammy win was Mavis Staples' who is a legendary Soul/R&B/Gospel singer. But last night she won her first Grammy EVER for Best Americana Album.
Grammy's are not about sales so we shouldn't get confused about that. Furthermore these awards are nice but the thing that matters most to me is not who sells the most or is well known by one culture more than another but the amount of souls that have been added to the kingdom. I believe that's the mandate Christ gave. We should celebrate all nominees and winners for putting themselves out there to share the gospel in song to reach the lost. If that was not their motivation and only wanted an award or the praise of man, then that's between them and God. I enjoy all genre of Christian music as long as it has Christ as the focus, so I say congrats to all winners and nominees.
Grammy slammy! Patty won way to go!!!!
Just checked a few blogs and alot of talk about yolanda adams singing secular songs on the grammys. I was shocked too Christian aka follower of christ therefore my music should always refleck that as well never taking down or comprimising. If you are nominated and won i have no issue w/ that but I won't compromise what i know to be right.
I didn't see the Grammy's this year. Was Lecrae in attendance?? Would've been awesome if he could've performed! (Spreading the Word)!!!!
Maybe we should hold the GospelPundit Awards, lol...have a post where we list our ideal categories, nominees, and winners. Cause, CLEARLY, most readers aren't feeling this, LOL. Smh...
jUST B/C NO ONE KNOW WHO PATTI GRIFFIN IS DOESN'T MEAN SHE DIDN'T DESERVE TO WIN. I CAN ARGUE THE SAME THING FOR WILLIAM MCDOWEL. HE TOO WAS UNKNOWN AND "I GIVE MY SELF AWAY" WAS OUT LONG B4 IT'S JUST DIDNT GET THE AIR PLAY TIL IT WAS PLAYED AND EVERYONE LIKED IT. I SAID IDK WHO PATTIE IS EITHER BUT IF SHE WON I'M SURE SHE PAID HER DUES AND SHE DIDNT WIN OR RECIEVE RECONITION UNTIL SHE WENT BACK TO HER ROOTS AND SANG ABOUT CHRIST
I think it is wrong to just assume that she was undeserving when the people complaining have not listened to the album. She wrote two beautiful original songs for the album and viewed the rest of it as an opportunity to bring lesser known songs to the forefront of a new audience so that they could be appreciated for their beauty. She sang respectfully and beautifully on each one, bringing the honesty in her vocals that gospel music is known for...not to mention that she has written and recorded several songs that would easily be considered gospel throughout her career. She wrote the absolutely stunning "Up to the Mountain" best known for being recorded by the late Solomon Burke as well as the songs Standing, Heavenly Day, Mary, and Coming Home to Me. I understand being disappointed that your nominee did not win, but I have been shocked by how many have been outright harsh toward Patty Griffin for this win as if she set out to beat others out of the award. She put out an album that was well received and loved by many and was rewarded for the hard work that went into it. Next year, someone else will win.
VaShawn Mitchell was robbed not getting a grammy for the hottest song ever "Nobody Greater than You " !!
So did I. How could a gospel song that proclaims that there is no one greater than the True and Living God, our Lord and Saviour, not win, the one who s soon to return for us, His children? Lo siento, pero me no comprendo!
Cause we be respectors of persons more than of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus, the Christ...that's why! And oops! busyo4, left the "i" off of "is." Got a little carried away there I suppose. Just cannot believe VaShawn Mitchell's song did not win.
Part I Is it possible that this is the reason why VaShawn's "Nobody Greater" album did not win out over "Grace?" Remember, it is written that we are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus and not of works, least any man should boast. Now, I am not saying that those in charge of deciding who would win are a bunch of lying, fornicating, cheating, stealing, backstabbing adultuers (is that spelled right); however, they were probably thinking on the lines of Grace and how it will be when they stand before the one above whom NOBODY IS GREATER. Some shall say "oh Lord, Grace, Grace." "I know I'm a fornicator, but let me in - Grace." "I know I've killed with this tongue and destroyed reputations and wounded many, but let me in - Grace." "I know I stole that good looking mate, couldn't help it, but let me in - Grace." "Come on now Jesus, you did say it's all about - Grace, didn't You?"
Part II They be among those screaming and hiding their faces as they hear those words that will resound in their heads for all eternity. "Depart from me workers of iniquity, I never knew you." Now, I am not accusing a single soul, just trying to make a point; namely, Grace aint one to be played with. Could it be that we have become a nation, above all others, that is trampling the Grace of God under our feet? Just wondering.
Part III I wanted to hear, again, the song "Grace." I did. Not one time did I hear the name that is above every name mentioned - that name to which every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. Then, I thought I had better do a little more research. Low and behold, I run across Ms. Ophrah Winfrey who states that "Grace" is "my new favorite song." Immediately, I thought maybe this is the reason why it won. If so, this is truly sad, and a case of respector of persons in a most horrible way IF this taped recording was BEFORE the Grammy. Again, since I do not know if Ms. Winfrey made this statement before or after the Grammy, I am only left to wonder. I would like to add that based on the confession of her faith, Ms. Winfrey appears to be a believer in the True and Living God.
i think karen shouldve won hands down none of the others can sing like her not even patti
