Why did Mary Mary choose that platform to sing that ambiguous dance song instead of their single? At least that song lifts up the name of Jesus, who is that "Flag" song about? Did they not think the Jay Leno audience & viewers could handle hearing the "Jesus walks with me" line? This is the compromise people talk about and this is the basis of MM's career. It has nothing to do with their modern production, we get it but where is the substance in the lyrics to go with it?

I personally believe that the message of Christ can be given in many forms. And the message in Galations 6:9..."Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up"...is CLEARLY communicated in "Never Wave My Flag". The song is about how YOU and I should push through difficult circumstances and not surrender to defeat. It's a message that we can all use. This song ABSOLUTELY encourages me! :-) Galations 6:9 is FULL of substance...even though the name of Jesus is absent from that particular scripture. Maybe I'm just one of those "see the glass half full" thinkers... *shrugs* Now, having said that, I actually did expect them to sing "Walking" cause 1) it's the radio single and 2) it allows them to show off their vocals a bit more...especially on the chorus...and it would've made better use of the background singers (they really weren't needed for the performance). And I thought that synth sound (I think that's what it's called) was a bit loud during the chorus)...

Okay but will a WORLDLY UNSAVED person connect this song with that scripture? No! MM pride themselves on reaching the world and the unchurched but they are not giving them scripture or making any mention of the one who saves. I'm tired of giving "gospel" artists a pass because "we" know they are gospel so "we" automatically know who they are talking about. How about making it clear to the average listener who will hear this song & won't have to wonder whether this is Rihanna's new single or not.

Re the performance all I'll say is that yes they smacked it ie from a perfomance/entertainment point of view... the singing was good the musicians were incredible ...the choreography...um wasnt sure if they were 'whipping their hair back adn forth' lol no pun intended....the stage production - for a gospel grp ...was really good so the overall production was excellent BUT ministrywise we need to be honest if you didnt know they were a gospel grp would you think they were the next Big RnB duo ...you wouldnt know they were singing about God ....and I think thats the issue alotta folks have...they're very 'blurred' and 'ambigious' as a gospel group... .. which can be interpreted by some as them trying to seek commercial mainstream success as opposed to being driven by ministry.....

I thought they would sing Walking (for obvious reason), but their performance was really good!

Y'all are beginning to make me think I listen to hard core, x-rated R&B or something, LOL! And I'm selective about the secular music/artists I listen to. There is NO WAY I could confuse Mary Mary's music with what R&B artists are releasing these days...not even Kem...and he's as clean as it gets! LOL! The Mary's music (some of it) stands out about as much as Bebe and CeCe's stuff from back in the day did (think "Addictive Love")...yet, the Mary's seem to be catching more flak. I dunno, lol...tough crowd! ;-)

This is a good inspirational song by Mary Mary , but this one aint Gospel. We need Jesus to make it Gospel.

I dunno, lol...tough crowd! ;-) Re - the above ...you're right MM seem to be getting more flak but I think like u mentioned in another post the truth of the matter is that I dont think its just about the music but also about the way they carry themselves as gospel artists. You made mention of bebe and cece.....yes back in the day and even the the album STILL had alot of 'inspirational like/ borderline songs ' (FYI - I wasnt crazy abt the STILL album but I love Cece) BUT you'll never catch Cece wearing items of clothing showing cleavage (please revert to MM In the morning video & also Heaven video.. Ericas dress at last years Grammys ....Tinas blouse during their recent Wall Street Journal video interview and just google MM images in general ). Also you'll NEVER catch Cece wearing an item of clothing as tight as what Tina had on during the video for 'Walking' ...and what she wore at a BET event performance sometime last year... also MM dont come across as gracious/graceful during interviews - they definitely lack interview etiquette......especially Tina. So I really think its a host of factors that really impact the way alot of us 'percieve' Mary Mary and Mia if you'll notice noone has ever doubted their love/committment to God ...their faith in God....etc I think everyone knows where they stand in relation to God (which is a good thing) so I think the real issue is the way they carry/conduct themselves . ...and from their responses during interviews its obvious they dont really care what we think so I guess we'll just continue to see the exodus of their core church fan following....... Hope this helps a bit

"I guess we'll just continue to see the exodus of their core church fan following......." <-- Smh... This is sad and I hope you're wrong about this. :-( I don't have a decent rebuttal, lol. I really don't remember the instances you've mentioned to comment on them. Maybe that's because I'm more disgusted by the foolishness worn by real secular R&B artists. Tina does come across as the more direct/less sugary Mary on Sunday Best though, lol...but I can't talk at all! Considering what you've listed, I can see how such repeated instances could be a turn off for some supporters. I can see how that could cause some folks to question their approach/motives. I've said this before on GP...IMO, some style choices aren't worth the hassle that comes with it. I love leggings. And when I'm on a date, I look like I'm on a date(hey...gotta be real, lol). But, I wouldn't wear that stuff to church, ministry events, etc.. I wouldn't want to unnecessarily hinder anyone from receiving my ministry. You can't please everyone though... And you were very helpful! :-)
