BET Postpones Sunday Best Finale After Giving Wrong Voting Number

Uh-oh.

The big season finale of BET’s Sunday Best has been postponed until next Sunday, September 11, 2011, after a wrong dial-in number was given for one of the contestants on the show last week. :-|

No, for real.

According to the official update posted on The Gospel According to Torrence, BET also considered the fact that the East Coast suffered from significant power outages (due to Hurricane Irene).

Apparently, the text-to-vote and online voting is unaffected– those votes will still count.  BET will re-air last week’s episode this Sunday, September 4th, after which the phone voting will begin.

I’m sure this just adds ammunition to your little “we-hate-BET” guns, but let’s show a little grace on this one. A LITTLE. ;-)

In the meantime, you can check out my latest editorial, Sunday Best… Then What? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Sunday's Best just lost its credibility!!!

I smell something FISHY going on here. Unless Mary Mary is gone for the next edition of this show I will refuse to watch it. I can't wait to see who they say the winner is...... I'm a die hard Andrea Helms fan, go Andrea.

Too ridiculous for words.... Either this is simple (innocent) incompetence or there's a "fix" in the making for _________________ (I think it's Andrea) to take the title. I think this show's fan base will choose/probably chose Amber out of familiarity (read: can't handle anything new/different)

I agree with you. Most people can't accept something new, even in the african-american community. It's sad, but true. Honestly, I am a big Andrea fan, and, if Amber wins, I will know what America's view of moving forward is. Smh... :)

I think the Fix is in too! I have watched every episode of Sunday Best since it's inception, but, I think this season has been "conceptually problematic"! I lost interest when Michael was eliminated and Ericas' statement about ....."you are welcome here", during judging, was th nail in the coffin for me.

Wow! The best thing you can do is to wait a week

  • Marcel wrote on September 2, 2011

Hmmmm... I don't like this. I'm team Andrea! Plain and simple.

  • Renee' wrote on September 2, 2011

What did Erica mean by that statement? I don't get it.

    BET Really????

Amber won. She's far and away the better vocalist. Her phone number didn't work. I tried to call it 10 times. Andrea Helms, while she was very sincere in her convictions, is NOT a gospel singer. Her style is very CCM, and until the last show she did not sing well. Her pitch was all over the place and her fluttery vibrato was extremely distracting. And I take issue with the show's very premise of judging "The anointing". "Anointing" as described in the bible is an act of ordination or appointment. i.e. pouring oil on the prophet or the king to signify God's placement of them in that position. I get so annoyed when silly church people talk about "the anointing" becauser the way they use it is completely unfounded in biblical understanding. "The anointing" is not "showing ghost" or knowing how to shout people, in order to feel better. That's exhoration, and if you're good at it then people will definitely go in. "The anointing" is your appointment by God to a particular vocation or calling and when you operate in that EXCELLENTLY, that is what destroys the yoke...not some nebulous ability of gospel singers or praise and worship leaders to cause people to go in. So if we're talking about what the anointing actually is...then Amber won. God made her a singer, she has developed her gift and operates within her calling excellently.

I don`t buy this, it sounds way too fishy. how are they going to postpone it for that? I just don`t buy it.

  • pinkladee wrote on September 2, 2011

In my view, the statement was made to make AH "feel better" . I think there has been some "rumblings having to do with the fact that no other ethnic groups have ever made it to the finals, etc. and prehaps BET has been receiving pressure........Sunday Best is Sunday Best = Not Best first Lady.

WOW! Djore Nance I appreciate your comments about the "anointing". People overuse that word and really do not know what it means. This is a tv show contest for gospel singers. Amber is a multi-faceted singer, and maybe God wants her to be diverse and able to sing various styles. She can do praise and worship--fast/slow, gospel, broadway, love songs, straight, curvy, or jazzy. She has presented the best picture of a gospel singer and maybe God wants to take her around the world. She has something heavy on her--the spirit of God. We ain't seen nothing yet. By the way check her out singing "Praise Him Now" (Kierra Sheard's song), and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" at other churches.

I know Amber, and she is highly skilled and anointed. In fact, what you have seen on Sunday Best isn't even the half of what she can do! But I also love Andrea Helms. Her spirit is great, and I dont care what anyone says, she CAN sing! I think that nerves have been an issue for her. But when she's there, she's there! And while it is a competition, let's not forget that the KINGDOM comes first, so we should encourage one another. Especially considering that we want to reach as many as we can with the Gospel in these last days. In-fighting will NOT win souls.

    I can't pronounce your name but whoever you are T H A N K Y O U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Annette wrote on September 4, 2011

Please! Amber does not know the Lord or she may know him (so does the devil) but she doesn't have a personal relationship with Him. Anyone who is a true believer knows that this girl is just using Sunday Best as a platform to promote herself and the jazz Yes, she may be the better singer skill wise but not in the sense of ministering. Andrea loves the Lord and sings to the Lord. Amber sings about the Lord with no conviction. Amber is singing to sing or win a contest not to minister. Those who have a real relationship with Jesus can see right through amber and will vote for Andrea. Oh and check out the interview they did with the two finalist and that will tell you alot about whose been called and whose perpetrating. Come on people; God gave his people discernment let's use it. Even the judges made reference to Amber's relationship with Jesus and for those of you who are truly saved don't vote for Amber just because she's black and your black.

    I love Andrea Helms

  • accordingtobible01 wrote on September 4, 2011

I am 100% in agreement with you. Ironically, I made such a similiar remark on another site, that I had to look carefully to verify that this wasn't my comments. I watched this last show/interview multiple times and if everyone objectively did the same, they would agree. Now they eliminated some excellent contestants solely based on their performance on that night (their past had no effect). So, reviewing the judges comments, they all made negative remarks to AMBER on her first performance, yet her last performance was outstanding. On the other hand, both of Andrea's performances yielded overwhelming responses, therefore she won!

  • Angela wrote on September 4, 2011

Sunday Best or Sunday Worst! I DVR the show last week as I watched it and voted for Andrea. I couldn't believe when I called, the recording said, "thank you for voting for Amber!!" Then I tried again and got the same recording. Just to be sure, I rolled the show back to double check the number posted. This mistake has damaged the show's creditability. Moving forward, there will always be a cloud of suspicion no matter who wins.

  • BUZZ wrote on September 4, 2011

I think the BET Judges upstaged Amber's last performance. I sincerely hope that we don't play the race card here and we all are honest with not ourselves but to our "Maker" GOD. Andrea and Amber are both annointed however Andrea gets my vote, there is just something about her ministry that touches my inner spirit. No matter who wins we've all won for having the privilege to hear the gifts that GOD has given them. Isn't GOD Awesome!!!

  • accordingtobible01 wrote on September 4, 2011

As have so often done in every institution in our society, let's not make decisions based on technicalities (utilizing the word 'Annointing' incorrectly according to the Bible). Now In respect to your unchallenged definition of 'anointing', please allow me to make a different conclusion. AMEN? Now that you have revealed that we all are using the word 'anointing incorrectly, let look at what we are really saying. We use this word to define that they primarily bring glory to GOD. There can be a high praise to GOD in a song, speak to God's people, and souls can be touched and connected with GOD in a song. AMEN? For the gospel vocalist out there, can you agree? Is that not what the old gospel hymes did? Now Jazz and R&B is primary for entertainment so combining this with gospel singing takes away glory to GOD. I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for this or even support this change. Let's now go to the Bible referencing Moses and Aaron. Aaron was far the better speaker and in fact Moses studdered, but his perfection was disregarded in GOD's choice. Revisit the judges' response to Amber, 'finally, finally, finally'.

  • janice wrote on September 4, 2011

Excuse me ! The word says judge not lest you be judge. How do you know if she knows the Lord or if she is using Sunday Best for a jazz platform. If we or all Christians and truly love the Lord then our prays should be going up for both of them. They are two beautiful women with anointed voices and wonderful spirits. Stop making this something that is not pleasing to God.

  • wanda wrote on September 4, 2011

Thank you sister. You are righy!!!. Lets all wait and see.

  • Guest wrote on September 4, 2011

Wowwww... let's not rewrite/misinterpret/misrepresent the sacred Word of God. The Lord called Moses and ONLY Moses to lead the Israelites. But due to Moses' lack of godly confidence, the Lord appointed Aaron to HELP/SUPPORT Moses SPEAK, not to help Moses LEAD. Moses and Aaron were NOT on EQUAL levels. The Lord spoke to MOSES and ONLY MOSES. Aaron got his directions from Moses, who got his directions from the LORD. The use of Moses and Aaron to support your point in relation to Amber and Andrea is grossly inaccurate and inapplicable.

I agree, both women, Andrea and Amber, have mass talent; however, I vote for Andrea as Sunday Best. She inspires in her sincere and simplistic Godly manner.

  • Fairness wrote on September 5, 2011

Tahnk you Djore for the insightful information on " the anointing " it is very clear that a lot of christians have the wrong perceptions of "anointing" . Having the ability to sing and bieng anointed is two different thing. It is apparent that someone needs to look at decernment as well. What you thing?

  • sandra wrote on September 5, 2011

I am a die hard Andrea Helms fan as well. I will stop watching if she does not win because I believe posting the wrong number totally destroys the integrity of the voting process.

  • Ronnie wrote on September 5, 2011

I stopped watching when Michael was eliminated. The judging was a little off for me this season. I believe the final three were all fantastic and genuine. I really wanted Michael to be a finalist, but he didn't make it. I believe they selected Andrea because she is caucasian competing in a predominently african american contest. However, I do not believe it is a race issue. I will not be voting because it is my belief that Michael should be Sunday's Best. That being said, whoever wins will be an awesome addition to the gospel world!

  • Raven wrote on September 5, 2011

I'm not sure if delaying the show another week will help because I didn't vote again. I wasn't aware that there was a problem, and I cut the tv off when I noticed the show was a re-run. Is the public really aware of what happened? The voting still maybe off, but I'm glad you posted something about the error. I'll vote online again.

This season has been the worst of a truly great and enjoyable show. It has given us something wholesome to come home and watch on Sunday night.........Sunday's Best. Although it has not been the best this year because they lost sight of the show and the gospel and went into a popular or "we should" mode. With that said, either they have 2 winners................or shut down the show! They replayed the show without letting us know "LIVE" what was going on or why!? Just too much mess to be Sunday best.
