Dr. Charles Hayes, who founded Chicago’s Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer in April of 1959, and who gave us the classic choir hit, “Jesus Can Work It Out,” has passed.
Dr. Hayes has been like a spiritual father to many gospel artists, especially choir directors and artists coming up in Chicago. His Glass Tea Cups church choir has been a staple in the gospel community for decades and has made a great impact on gospel music.
The following statement was made on the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer website yesterday:
We announce the transition from Labor to Reward of our beloved Founder, Pastor and Overseer
DR. CHARLES G. HAYES
We ask that you keep his family, our church and the hearts of everyone life he touched lifted in prayer. We thank you for the calls, fb messages, texts, prayers and thoughts during this time. As Pastor would say “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!” Rest on Pastor! The life you lived will continue to speak for you in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. Thank you for your teaching! Thank you God for giving this vision to Dr. Hayes and for lending him to us for the past 76 years. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. We will post them upon completion.
Let’s keep the Hayes family and the Cosmopolitan Church family in prayer!
