Whitney Houston: My Initial Thoughts…

Whitney Houston has passed.

Each step of writing this post has been surreal– from typing the headline to finding the photo– I just can’t wrap my mind around it. I’m numb and on auto-pilot with this one…

No other musician’s passing has hit me as hard as the sudden and unexpected death of Whitney Houston. I don’t have any flowery reflections to give just yet– hasn’t really hit me.

But I do know that we’ve gotta pray. Even as individuals, touched by her iconic music and now rocked with grief, WE have got to pray.

Pray for her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, pray for her mom, Cissy Houston, pray for her ex, Bobby Brown. I’ve gotta pray for the family and friends who will be infinitely more rattled and confused than I was as I read “Whitney Houston… Dead at 48.”

I praise God for the remarkable gift He gave this woman. I praise God for how she had the opportunity to sing of Him, speak of Him, and make Him known through various gospel songs and in many interviews, especially in later years. I pray she knew Him. And I pray He welcomed her home.

Whitney Houston will be more than missed.

The chorus of “Go Get It” has me boppin’ my head and rockin’ my neck so hard, I might have hurt myself. Now, your turn.

Brian Courtney Wilson Makes Us All ‘Proud’ With #1 Billboard Debut

In my humble opinion, Brian Courtney Wilson is an artist who has still not quite received his due in the gospel industry. In addition to topping both radio and sales charts with his debut album, Just Love, he’s a super kind and genuine dude with a great voice and wonderful passion for ministry.

Soooo, I’m a bit excited to write that his newest project, So Proud, has debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart this week. If you don’t have it yet, check out my review on GospelPundit.com AND my review for gmc’s website. Then buy it here.

The rest of Billboard’s Top 10 in Gospel is:

1 | Brian Courtney WilsonSo Proud
2 | WOW Gospel 2012
3 | Fred HammondGod, Love & Romance
4 | James Fortune & FIYAIdentity
5 | Various ArtistsJoyful Noise Sountrack
6 | William McDowellArise

9 | LecraeRehab
10 | Marvin SappPlaylist: The Very Best of…

The new project from Le’Andria Johnson hit stores yesterday, and should debut very high next week. That will be a pretty good look for the new Grammy winner, as both her freshman and sophomore albums (not counting the Christmas project) will be in the Top 10.
