Christmas Goodies: Mary Mary’s “Call Him Jesus”

One of my household’s FAVORITE Christmas videos EVER. Aside from the fact that Tina & Erica Campbell (Mary Mary) are singing their naturally born faces off, my wife and I are particularly fond of the tambourine breakdown at the end. :-)

Here’s Mary Mary with “Call Him Jesus”:

Oh, and shout-out to Latrice Pace, Rachel James and Charmaine Swimpson on BGVs, rockin’ it.

LOVE IT!

Christmas Goodies: Kim Burrell – “O Holy Night”

It’s DECEMBER!  That means it’s Christmastime!

Throughout the month, I’ll be tossing some Christmas Goodies into the mix, showcasing some of my favorite Christmas videos on the web.  Up first, a classic for me– “O Holy Night.”

In one of my favorite performances of this timeless Christmas song, Kim Burrell tickles the ivories and skips through the scales to make MUSIC. Love it.

Goodies: The Winans’ “Redeemed” LIVE

This morning in my quiet time, I thought of how awesome God is for having made a plan, since before time began, to paint this beautiful picture of His love– sending Jesus Christ to save a dying world.

It wasn’t like He was surprised by Adam & Eve’s sin, then hurried to His planning room to figure out what to do, wondering “oh man, how am I going to save them?”  He knew it was coming.  He knew how we’d act even before He made us, and He devised this entire thing JUST to save us, JUST to love us, JUST to receive the glory that He deserves.

I tweeted this– “Sending Christ to save us from sin was not God’s backup plan for some accidentally fallen humanity. It is THE plan.”

And then, I couldn’t get this song out of my head–

Do you hear those lyrics?! “It was not a haphazard event, nor a secondary scheme, but it was THE PLAN of the Lord to redeem… Calvary didn’t just HAPPEN to be… it was there before the world began.  He decided to die for you and I, even before Adam sinned.”

Be encouraged and know that the God who made this master plan has not failed to include the intricacies and details of your life within it. This plan, THE GOSPEL, has accounted for all we’ll need. God is just as meticulous about the details of “you” as He is about saving “you,” because it goes hand-in-hand. He is relentlessly in love with you.

This was supposed to just be a Goodies post, but maybe somebody needed that. So, there ya go! ;-)

Goodies: Tobbi & Tommi From Donald Lawrence’s “The Co.”

Omgeeeeeeeee… Tobbi & Tommi SING.  They are probably best known in the gospel biz for their vocals in Donald Lawrence’s phenomenal group of singers, The Company, but the sister duo has been ministering together for quite some time.

I randomly stumbled upon this YouTube clip of the two of them singing D. Lawrence’s “Prayer of Jabez (Bless Me Indeed)”… word has it that the two of them just recorded a remake of Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire,” a duet to be featured on Donald’s upcoming album, YRM (Your Righteous Mind), in stores January 25th.  If you’ve heard them do the song over the summer (particularly at the Brat Pack Reunion Concert at GMWA this year), you know it’s going to be INCREDIBLE.

In the meantime, check ‘em out–

Video Pick: Lisa Page Brooks – “God Is Good”

Lisa Page Brooks is taking over all things GOSPEL this weekend with the premiere of her latest music video for “God Is Good.”  In addition to being posted on various websites, the video will air on BET’s Video Gospel this Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 11am ET.

“God Is Good” is the latest single from Lisa Page Brooks’ Stronger album (Habakkuk Music), which was released in 2009, and is the follow-up tune to her radio chart-topping single “I Want To Say Thank You.”

Goodies: Melonie Daniels. ‘Nuff Said.

I post this video every 6 months or so, I think.  It never gets old.  I do it under the guise of “well, there may be some new visitors to the site who haven’t seen it since the last time,” but the reality is that I just adore it.

I’ve said it countless times, but Melonie Daniels is one of my favorite singers to ever walk this planet.  This particular song, “Forever,” was featured on the CD from her church in NY, Greater Allen Cathedral.

Enough intro… just prepare yourself and try not to knock anything over in your immediate area–

Speak on it!

Goodies: Clark Sisters & Mattie Moss Clark — “They Were Overcome…”

I woke up with a hankering to hear some Mattie Moss Clark.

After watching numerous YouTube videos, I landed on this one (no video– just audio) of “They Were Overcome By The Word” by The Clark Sisters featuring their mother, Mattie Moss Clark.  It’s on the Is My Living In Vain album and is probably one of my favorite cuts on that project (though, I guess they’re ALL my favorites, really).

Anyway, the chord progressions and harmonies on this song have always been incredible to me, if for no other reason than the fact that they were rather innovative for that time.  Plus, they’re simply beautiful to me.

How about that?!

Goodies: All-Star Vocalists on “Lift Every Voice And Sing”

I sooooooo remember this special arrangement of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” being released about 20 years ago.  I remember hearing all of the different vocalists, trying to pick out who was singing on each part, and thinking “THIS SONG ROCKS!”

We’re talking Melba Moore, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Stephanie Mills, Karen Clark Sheard, Howard Hewitt, Jeffrey Osborne, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Anita Baker, Take 6, Bobby Brown, Gerald Albright… the vocals and music are well-produced.  Just great great great.

Anyway, I started humming it this week, randomly, and I thought “I wonder if people remember this?”

Do you???

Goodies: Throwback Hez – “To Be Like Jesus”

It feels kinda funny referring to Hezekiah Walker’s Live in London as “throwback,” but it was released in 1997, which was 13 years ago… that’s kinda throwback at this point.

In any case, this is one of my favorite cuts from that project– it’s “To Be Like Jesus” featuring LaWonda Campbell.  Pretty sure I featured this video before, but it got so good to me this morning, I figured “why not?!”

Goodies: Jazmine Sullivan – “Accept What God Allows”

Just cuz. :-)

It’s old skool Jazmine Sullivan singing “Accept What God Allows” on the “Apollo Kids” segment on Showtime at the Apollo.  She was only 11 years old at the time, and wasn’t yet the 7-time Grammy-nominated R&B superstar that she is today… but her voice was still killin’.
