Show Me Everything About: "goodies"
Goodies: Jason Nelson On A Quick Hymn
by EJ on Mar.05, 2010, under Music
It’s no secret that Jason Nelson is one of my favorite vocalists… like… on Earth. Even he knows it… I think.
He just has one of those naturally warm tones. His delivery is confident and in-the-pocket. He’s a REAL singer… he doesn’t rely on his tricks (though he’s got a BUNCH of ‘em–with precision– up his sleeve). My dad might call him a “crooner,” reminiscent of gritty-and-great vocalists like Sam Cooke and David Ruffin.
More than that, though, he’s a dude who just CLEARLY loves him some Jesus.
OKAY. Now that I’ve finished by “Jason Nelson For President” campaign, watch this video of him singing “The Old Rugged Cross”:
PuhLEASE, tell me what you think of THAT!
On TV: NAACP Image Awards Tomorrow Night
by EJ on Feb.25, 2010, under Events
Don’t forget to tune-in to FOX tomorrow night, February 26th, at 8pm ET for the LIVE broadcoast of the NAACP’s 41st annual Image Awards. The nominees, announced in January, for “Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional or Contemporary)” are:
Donnie McClurkin - We All Are One
Shirley Caesar - A City Called Heaven
Fred Hammond - Love Unstoppable
BeBe & CeCe Winans - Still
Vickie Winans - How I Got Over
As I predicted earlier, I’m banking on BeBe & CeCe for this one. Also, don’t forget that Mary Mary is nominated in the “Outstanding Song” category (the overall category, not the gospel one)… dunno if they’ll win that one, but given the favor on them lately, I can’t say I’d be surprised. Yay Marys! LOL

You tuning-in???
Goodies: J Moss On TBN
by EJ on Feb.19, 2010, under Music
This is from a few months ago, but it still blessed me “on today.” LOL
Check out J Moss singing “Rebuild” from his latest project, Just James. And don’t laugh at how Clifton Davis says “PA-JAM” in the beginning, either. *giggling*
Whatcha think?
Goodies: Calvin Bridges - “Do You Love My Jesus”
by EJ on Feb.17, 2010, under Music
This performance is from one of my favorite old school televised gospel shows, Going Home To Gospel, which was hosted by Patti LaBelle and aired on PBS. I think I’ve posted some Goodies from there before.
Anyway, this song… I just love it. From the classic style of the song to the just-right solo from Calvin Bridges… (and yes, that’s Ricky Dillard directing the choirs). LOVE IT!
Whatcha thinkin’???
Goodies: Daryl Coley & Patti LaBelle
by EJ on Feb.12, 2010, under Music
You know how, from time to time, you’ll be on YouTube, just searching through stuff, and you find a rare gem that you either never knew of, or completely forgot about? Then, you get so excited that you run to your gospel music blog to post it for the masses to enjoy???
That’s what I just did.
Here’s the incomparable Patti LaBelle and Daryl Coley singing Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” BACK IN THE DAY. And peep MJ in the audience… I miss him (and I’m SO mad at Dr. Conrad Murray right now!!!).
Enjoy:
Speak your mind, people!
Goodies: Bettina Pennon - “Only Believe”
by EJ on Feb.08, 2010, under Music
Bettina Pennon. That’s all that needs to be said. LOL
This woman can sing just about anything… she’s an incredibly popular regional artist in the NYC-metro area, but I do believe folks across the nation need to hear more from her…
Anyway, this back-in-the-day video of her singing blessed me this morning… figured I’d share.
Whatcha think?
Goodies: Jonathan & Jason Nelson
by EJ on Jan.13, 2010, under Music
Doggone it, they’re definitely two of my favorite brothers in gospel music. Each has a unique musical style, but both contribute to this industry in a way that is necessary and appreciated.
I hear they’ll be performing together at the Bonnerfide Radio Launch Party on Friday night in Nashville!!! Who’s gonna be there?
Here’s Jonathan Nelson and his twin, Jason Nelson, singing “Right Now Praise” with a little Maurette Brown Clark at the end… just because.
Anyone else love this song???
Goodies: Drea Randle
by EJ on Dec.23, 2009, under Music
If you’ve been visiting GospelPundit.com for a minute, you’ll remember that, back in February, I did a Where YOU Been?! post about Drea Randle. In that article, I mentioned that Drea led “It’s Already Done” on a choir album from The Potter’s House (Dallas, TX)…
Guess who found a live performance video of her singing that cut???
This lead vocal is awesome– she’s giving it her all, making tasteful and precise vocal choices, none of which are easy to do… just some plain ol’ GOOD SINGING on a GOOD SONG.
*praying for a new solo project from her in 2010*
What do you think of the performance?
Goodies: The Winans & Michael McDonald
by EJ on Dec.16, 2009, under Music
Most folks know that one of my favorite male vocalists is Marvin Winans. If I take a moment to think about it, though, Michael McDonald follows not too far behind.
Imagine my sheer delight as I watched this live performance of The Winans’ “Love Has No Color,” featuring Michael McDonald. I’ve always loved the studio track, but to watch ‘em live… there are NO words. And, an aside: Carvin is doing his good singin’ on here, too.
What’s your favorite song from The Winans?
Goodies: Twinkie Schools The Organists
by EJ on Dec.11, 2009, under Music
They don’t call her the Queen of the B3 Organ for nothin’…
At a recent conference, Twinkie Clark showed some organists how to play her classic song, “Miracle”… she makes it look sweet and simple. But I don’t think it is.
