Years ago, I would have bet that the son of Karen Clark-Sheard would sound like J Moss– killer range with an unbelievable tone and a vocal agility rivaled by only a handful in the industry.  And I probably would have been satisfied– but not blown away.

I’m glad that J Drew “JDS” Sheard II, delivers on something greater than vocal agility and that he adds more than just another great voice to the industry.  Don’t get me wrong, everyone knows that I adore the music that his entire family has put out.  But he does more than merely add to the line-up of already good vocalists… he brings a unique, refreshing and craved-by-many sound and style of Christian music to the table that is not currently out there.  What’s more– it’s authentic and without pretense.  And it’s really good.

Like his sister, Kierra Sheard, JDS has clearly been influenced by more than gospel music.  His MySpace page lists Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, Coldplay, Maroon 5 and Paul McCartney among his influences.  And you can hear it.  He’s a songwriter, producer, drummer, artist… and he does it all WELL.  You’ve already heard his skills on tracks from his mother (“A Living Testimony”) and his sister (umm… too many to name!).  I’m soooooooo excited to continue to watch HIM develop as an artist.
