Malaco announced today that it has signed recording artist-turned TV personality Lexi to a recording contract.
“I am humbled to be a family member of the iconic recording label Malaco Records,” says Lexi. “I am honored to have the opportunity of continuing in the legacy of great singers, musicians and music.”
Her first album on the label, titled Phenomenal, is produced by Marcus Cole (perhaps best known as a lead vocalist in Commissioned) and will hit stores this Spring or Summer.
Sooooo, I’ve got Kierra Sheard’s new mixtape, available everywhere on September 22nd (EMI Gospel), and I’m just sayin’… it’s kinda hot.
Track listing:
1. “I Want Back”
2. “You Don’t Know”
3. “Wave Your Banner” – Monstamix
4. “Sing To The Lord”
5. “Teach Me”
6. “Why Me”
7. “Love Like Crazy” – Extended Mix
8. “This Christmas”
Hottest tracks to me include “I Want Back,” the rock-infused “Sing To The Lord,” and the jazzy/neo-styled “Teach Me,” which is sooooooo signature “Kierra” to me. Incredible. Also, her remake of the classic “This Christmas,” featuring the dynamic Marcus Cole, is great stuff.
I had been eager to buy Andraé Crouch’sMighty Wind for a while before it came out cuz I heard that it would feature guest spots from some of the industry’s greatest artists.
Well, the treats simply TUMBLE out of this project, as almost every song features a powerhouse vocalist. The first track, “I Was Glad,” featured Tata Vega on lead (if you don’t know her name, you definitely know her voice– she is the recorded singing voice of Shug Avery in The Color Purple) and you can hear Melonie Daniels doing some riffs in the bgv’s.
Then, the album moves to “All Because Of Jesus,” with Marvin Winans DEMOLISHING the lead. Next is “Jesus Is Lord” with Karen Clark-Sheard… oh man! Then Fred Hammond takes lead on “Oh, Give Thanks.” Other notable guest spots include Marcus Cole (“Come Home”) and Crystal Lewis (“We Give You Glory”)… y’all don’t OWN this?!
In short, this whole project was BANANAS and I think a lot of people don’t own it, which is a sin and a shame. I couldn’t find full-length streaming audio, but here are TWO snippets for ya– Marvin Winans on “All Because Of Jesus,” and Karen Clark-Sheard on “Jesus Is Lord”:
