Word Has It: Mary Mary Performing On NAACP Image Awards Tonight

Word has it that Tina & Erica Campbell (Mary Mary) will be performing on the NAACP Image Awards tonight.  As I mentioned yesterday, the awards show will be broadcast live from L.A. on FOX tonight at 8pm ET.

According to a Twitter message sent by Erica Campbell yesterday, the gospel duo are seeking prayers for their performance tonight– “Tina has laryngitis n I’m 8mo pregnant, pray 4 MM!!”

Geeeeeeez.  I dunno how they do it, but they do it.  Touch ‘em, Lawd!

In The News: NAACP Image Awards' Gospel Nominees

The nominations for the NAACP’s 41st annual Image Awards were announced today.  The organization recognizes the contributions of African-Americans in a variety of fields, including gospel music.  The nominees for “Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional Or Contemporary)” are:

Donnie McClurkinWe All Are One
Shirley CaesarA City Called Heaven
Fred HammondLove Unstoppable
BeBe & CeCe WinansStill
Vickie WinansHow I Got Over

My money’s on BeBe & CeCe because their reunion project was so highly anticipated and mainstream audiences know them REALLY well.  Plus, the album’s good.  In any event, I think each of the nominees deserve their nods.

I’m SLIGHTLY miffed that Donald Lawrence didn’t get recognized, but I’ll be okay…

And before you get all up in arms about why Mary Mary isn’t nominated for Outstanding Album, they were nominated (and won) last year.  Aaaaand, THIS YEAR, they got a nod for “God In Me” in the Outstanding Song category!  Cool, huh?

To see a full list of nominees, click here.  The awards show airs LIVE on Friday, February 26th on FOX at 8pm ET/7pm CST.  Tune in!

What do you think of the nods???

In the News: Mary Mary Wins NAACP Image Award

Not that you’d have known it from watching the telecast, but Mary Mary walked away with the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Artist (Traditional or Contemporary) at last night’s 40th annual awards show.  Also nominated were Hezekiah Walker, Marvin SappRegina Belle, Take 6.

Really??? Okay.  I’m a bit surprised cuz I thought everyone was loving Marvin Sapp right now.  Well, kudos ladies and rock on!

On a side note, I’ma need the producers of the show to get it together.  All you needed was ONE uber-excited intern to be responsible for updating a Twitter feed, which could have been placed on your website, giving us real-time results and info on the winners.  I had to scour the web just to confirm who won the gospel category!  Aaarrrrggggh…

Shout-out to The Envelope at the LA Times for their full list– click here to see it.

On TV: NAACP Image Awards Tonight

The NAACP Image Awards show airs live tonight on FOX at 8pm ET/PT.  It should have some great performances, and there’s a gospel artist category, so I’ma be watchin’.   Check out my earlier post about it to see the nominees.

Y’all tuning in?

In the News: NAACP Image Awards

Nominees for the 40th annual NAACP Image Awards were announced yesterday.  They offer an “Outstanding Gospel Artist (Traditional or Contemporary)” award… and the nominees are:

Hezekiah Walker | Marvin Sapp | Mary Mary | Regina Belle | Take 6

Taking nothing from the other nominees, my money is on Marvin Sapp cuz I think the industry and the fans love him A LOT right now.  And rightfully so.

The show, hosted by Halle Berry and Tyler Perry (cute… rhyming…) airs live on Thursday, February 12th on FOX at 8pm ET/PT (to my wife: I’m prolly gonna forget, so can you help me remember to set the DVR?).
