On TV: 25th Annual Stellar Awards To Air On gmc

by EJ on Feb.26, 2010, under Music

In case you haven’t caught the many local broadcasts of the 25th Annual Stellar Awards yet, now’s your chance to catch the program on cable, at gmc.  The show will air this Sunday, February 28th at 8pm ET.

During the show, gmc will also be sponsoring an interactive “Stellars Watch & Win” contest in which you can answer trivia questions for a chance to win a free HD Flip video camera.  I got one for Christmas and I’m lovin’ it!

For more info on the Stellar Awards at gmc, visit http://www.gmclife.com/stellars.

If you recall from my recap of the awards show, it was one of the best Stellar Awards tapings I’ve ever attended… I think you’ll QUITE enjoy it, if you haven’t seen it already.

On TV: NAACP Image Awards Tomorrow Night

by EJ on Feb.25, 2010, under Events

Don’t forget to tune-in to FOX tomorrow night, February 26th, at 8pm ET for the LIVE broadcoast of the NAACP’s 41st annual Image Awards.  The nominees, announced in January, for “Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional or Contemporary)” are:

Donnie McClurkin - We All Are One
Shirley Caesar - A City Called Heaven
Fred Hammond - Love Unstoppable
BeBe & CeCe Winans - Still
Vickie Winans - How I Got Over

As I predicted earlier, I’m banking on BeBe & CeCe for this one.  Also, don’t forget that Mary Mary is nominated in the “Outstanding Song” category (the overall category, not the gospel one)… dunno if they’ll win that one, but given the favor on them lately, I can’t say I’d be surprised.  Yay Marys! LOL

I do believe Mo’Nique will meet her match in Vickie’s crazy self, so it promises to be a good show.

On TV: Yolanda Adams Sings & Addresses Those Who Judge Her

by EJ on Feb.03, 2010, under Music

Remember a while back, when Yolanda Adams was supposed to be on The Mo’Nique Show, but the episode didn’t air?  Well, it must’ve aired at SOME point cuz portions of it are online.  And they’re good.

In this clip, Mo’Nique shares how impactful Yolanda was on the set of The Parkers (remember that show?).  She then requests that Yolanda sing “Already Alright,” which she does VERY well.  It was always one of my favorite cuts on the Mountain High… Valley Low project.

After her song, Yolanda launches into a quick testimonial moment.  In it, she talks about how it felt to have a man walk in the door of the house that she pays the bills for, and tell her that he doesn’t love her anymore… she addresses those that judged her decision to get a divorce– she says her LIFE was in danger. She has a lot more to say about the goodness of God in her situation and I mean she PREACHED. I’m actually kinda proud of the producers for not editing out her sermonette. :-)

Listen to what she’s got to say:

What do you think???

On TV: Highlights From Yesterday’s Bobby Jones Gospel

by EJ on Feb.01, 2010, under Music

Who caught Bobby Jones Gospel on BET yesterday?  It featured some INCREDIBLE performances from Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Darwin Hobbs and LeJeune Thompson.

Vanessa performed her hit single, “Good News,” and the classic and TIMELESS “Peace Be Still.”  In my humble musical opinion, the choir behind her didn’t quite know some of the nuances of their part, but the performance was still awesome.

Darwin Hobbs is just a worshipper, plain and simple.  He is a great performer because he offers the audience a personal encounter with God, in that moment, every time.  He performed “We Worship You Today” and did a great job with it.  For his second go’ round, Darwin sang the hit “He’s Able,” which has been, like… the rock worship ballad for the past year.  Deitrick Haddon wrote QUITE an anthem with that song– it’s awesome.

Aaand, LeJeune.  My, oh my.  LeJeune Thompson is one of the most underrated female vocalists in gospel and I don’t quite know why.  In any event, she sang “Lost Without You,” from her 2008 sophomore release, Metamorphosis.  It’s a mellow cut laced with incredible vocals… great job.

Who else saw it yesterday?  What was your favorite performance of the episode?
