Video Pick: Lisa Page Brooks – “God Is Good”

Lisa Page Brooks is taking over all things GOSPEL this weekend with the premiere of her latest music video for “God Is Good.”  In addition to being posted on various websites, the video will air on BET’s Video Gospel this Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 11am ET.

“God Is Good” is the latest single from Lisa Page Brooks’ Stronger album (Habakkuk Music), which was released in 2009, and is the follow-up tune to her radio chart-topping single “I Want To Say Thank You.”

Video Pick: Watch Marvin Sapp's "The Best In Me"

Yesterday, Verity Records released the video footage of Marvin Sapp singing his instant-hit single “The Best In Me,” at his recent live recording in Grand Rapids, MI.

I’m assuming this is the “official video,” so don’t go waiting for a storyline and fancy digital effects on Video Gospel. ;-)

In any case, I think it’s more than sufficient– it captures the energy of that moment (you can review my recap of that night) and does it what does.

Let me know what you think!

Video Pick: Tamela Mann – "The Master Plan"

The latest video from Tamela Mann, for her single “The Master Plan,” premiered on BET’s Video Gospel yesterday.  I was probably still asleep when it aired, recovering from Stellar weekend, but thank God for YouTube!

Check it out:

For me, the video wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great.  When it opened, it felt more like a stage play than a music video (shout-out to Kim Fields in the hospital scene!).  There was a bit of over-acting all around, which sort of made things a bit corny.

THAT SAID, Tamela looked like a gazillion dollars (as always)– she was dressed well and they used some great shots of her.  I loved the scenes that she was in (the street she stood on, with the piano, seems to be the same street from Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” movie– y’know, with Marvin Winans’ church in the background).

All in all, it’s a good effort and definitely serves its purpose– she conveys the message using two storylines and multiple shots of heartfelt performances.

Whatd’ya think of the video???

ChitChat: BET's Response To The Petition to Save 106 & Gospel

I got a personal email from Stephen Hill (Executive Vice President of Entertainment and Music Programming at BET) in response to our petition to Save 106 & Gospel.  Though it doesn’t look like BET plans to re-air 106 & Gospel, Mr. Hill’s email was kind and he stressed BET’s commitment to faith-based programming.  I appreciate that.

Below is BET’s Official Statement:

NEW YORK, April 9, 2009—

BET is dedicated to providing a wide range of entertainment that relates to the overall African American experience, and we recognize that meeting the needs of our faith-based community is an important part of reaching this goal.  That’s why we’ve provided a staple of gospel originals on BET for nearly 30 years, including BOBBY JONES GOSPEL, LIFT EVERY VOICE, VIDEO GOSPEL, CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL, SUNDAY BEST and, most recently, 106 & GOSPEL.  Because of our commitment to faith-based programming, we will continue to create new and exciting shows to entertain our audience.  However, at times we must also face the hard task of making tough programming decisions, as in the case of 106 & GOSPEL, which was recently cancelled. We will actively continue to create quality programming that resonates with our faith-based community, and we ask for and appreciate your continued support.

Aaarrrgggghhh.  As I said before, I’m sooooo not an activist.  Dunno if I’m supposed to say “okay, well thanks anyway,” or if I’m supposed to be chartering a bus so we can go and march somewhere.

What do you all think?  Do you accept this statement as sufficient, or do you demand MORE?!  Talk to me.

Word Has It: BREAKING NEWS – 106 & Gospel CANCELLED?

BREAKING NEWS (cuz y’all know I don’t be posting new stuff this late at night)…

Word has it that BET has decided to discontinue production of 106 & Gospel.

This is not officially confirmed, but I was informed of the network’s plans by an INCREDIBLY reliable source.

I sure hope it’s not true, cuz I love the show.

And if it is true… have y’all gone mad?!  And does this mean I have to go back to watching Video Gospel?!
